The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

UFC dont care about fighters getting sponsors, ufc cares about ufc

gsp picked a good time to semi-retire

robbie taking that belt, pettis keeping his

I hope they don't make them wear reebok sneakers. I'd only wear those dee brown slam dunk sneakers.

Will wait to see how the entire Reebok deal plays out in real life before I make any judgments, but GSP is coming back any second now so that comment doesn't make any sense. Also, obviously the UFC cares about the UFC. What the hell other way is there to think for them?

My first reaction is negative-- being that I absolutely love seeing guys wearing whatever the hell they want, style, color, etc. Upon reading further it seems like they'll still be pretty individual. As far as the money aspect, that's where I'll withhold judgement until we start to see concrete numbers and facts.

Hyped for Saturday. God damn I can't wait /Bart Scott

yeah, any second now..... in the next 2 years

the guy's probably been out as long as some of these current champions and probably spent most of his time rehabbing

he's on hiatus, hes not dominick cruz

We'll see. Wouldn't be shocked if we get him back in 2015. Regardless, my points still stand.

You act as if the UFC should not be looking out for themselves first and foremost.

im not acting on anything, i would never expect the ufc to act in the best interest of the fighters

this deal affects the top level fighters and further limits an already limited availability of sponsorships

why would under armour wanna pay gsp with this reebok deal, which is why i made that comment about it being a good time to be semi-retired

This has been in the works for a minute.

I guess the Cormier scuffle wasn't the only reason Nike pulled the rug from under Jones.

Athletes sponsored by particular brands are forced to wear other brands every day, b.

LeBron, Kobe, etc. have all had to don Adidas/Reebok official uniforms/warmups at some point. I'm sure it's the same way in the NFL. It is what it is when you're a part of a league. Some leagues you can get away with more than others, like in the NBA you can still wear whatever shoes but in the NFL I'm pretty sure they're stricter with cleats/accessories etc.

It's a concession that the athlete just has to live with. Ultimately I don't think it's the most unfair thing in the world. Who knows, maybe UA still has GSP as a brand ambassador.

Serious title fights this weekend.

If only Vitor was on deh TRT still... :\

I'm thinking both contenders getting taken out 2nd round.

^
Does vitor still have his mohawk? Maybe that was the real source of his strength.

Anyone watch Jo versus Rose last night? I like both fighters but had a feeling Rose was going to be too fast and slick. She was able to slip in nice punches and she is very good off her back. When they were showing her training a few episodes before her striking and submission skills were impressive. Plus she's really athletic. I think randa or carla's strong wrestling can neutralize her though.

I got nothing but respect for Frankie as a fighter and person. Saw an interview with Ariel yesterday and Frankie was so humble. He said his piece to Dana about wanting Aldo and went the right way about it. Didn't say anything crazy or disrespectful about anyone on social media or cause a scene. Said he knows Conor is marketable and understands that aspect of the business. Top notch guy Frankie is.

From what I'm reading, the UFC effectively killed the sponsor market themselves with "tax" they imposed, therefore this RBK deal might actually benefit most fighters. Sucks for the dudes that created legit lifestyle brands though (Dethrone/Jaco).

Both champs retain this weekend, IMO. Bigg Rigg didn't look the same after tearing up his bicep on that takedown attempt in the first fight. He just didn't have any pop in that arm and his wrestling was basically non-existent. I expect a wrestling-heavy, decision win for Hendricks.

As for the 155ers, man, that is going to be a battle. Gil is a warrior, but Pettis just has too much skill for him. Gil will want to get inside and throw volume, while Pettis will keep his range and pick his spots. Showtime may be the first man to finish Melendez...

Just read this on twitter; what happens if/when a big named fighter becomes a free agent then signs a deal with Bellator during UFC's matching period that states in the contract the fighter is allowed to choose and wear whatever sponsor they want? How does UFC match?

I love watching Pettis' fights. The way he punishes people with body kicks is so nice to watch.

Breh, if Pettis finishes Gil I'll be shocked. I look at Gil as one of the most durable and un-finishable guys MMA has, outside of Frankie.

Pettis only goes for finishes though so I'm ready to see him try

Yeah, Gil is tough as hell but if Pettis lands some of those brutal body kicks . . .

FYI for those with EA Sports UFC, Brock Lesnar will be added to game as FREE DLC in a Legends pack along with Rampage Jackson, Matt Hughes, and Mark Coleman.

I wanted jojo to win but i felt her ground game was the weak point going in against rose

Looks like Browne and Schaub have a little beef brewing. You could see it at the weigh-ins

If I have it correct: Schaub criticized Browne for leaving Jackson's camp to train in Glendale with Rousey's coach. Rousey's coach got wind of this and proceeded to trash Schuab as a fighter. Schaub said he "knows what types of things go on" at the Glendale camp and that it was "a good thing for Browne to switch" as it would benefit Schaub.

Wonder if Schaub is bitter at the breakup with Ronda? Would be boss if Browne KO'd Schuab and then brought Ronda to the cage and made out with her on some "I ****** your girl too" Adrien Broner ****
