The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Seemed like he let go pretty quick.
He let go quicker than we're accustomed to with him, but he still held it a little longer than he needed to.

with a knee bar/heel hook(especially heel hook), the difference between walking away and destroying someone's knee is milliseconds.

He let go as soon as the ref grabbed him, not sure what else you want him to do.

It's just him, so every millisecond after a tap seems a little too long,

MMA is dangerous, period.

How many times do we see dudes getting punched multiple times when they're clearly done?

Because it happens a lot, IMO.

Cant compare getting excessively punched while they're unconscious and at the ref's discretion to someone consciously submitting/giving up.

Browsing through sherdog and most people agree he held the submission as usual. it's not like this dude doesn't have a history of holding onto submissions too long. the lone reason he was released from the UFC.

Really disappointed in the two main events

Nate really gave no dambs about this match. Came in overweight, looked completely disinterested and put on a dud. Take nothing from RDA because I felt he would do that to Nate regardless, but the lack of heart Nate showed tonight really surprised me. He mailed it in and admitted it to Ariel after the fight.

JDS basically looked like he did against Cain. Gassed out near the second round. Basically turned in to nothing but a "let's take turns going for the walk off". Stipe on the other hand looked pretty good but to be honest he would be little challenge for Cain and probably Werdum as well. Overall the fight really didn't entertain me much.

Don't know what to make of the HW division after Cain and Werdum fight. We have JDS, Reem, Browne and Meathead coming off wins. Not sure how they're going to match make to try to find a new #1 contender. Hopefully Browne emerges.

I think they have a tough decision at LW for the #1 contender. Even though Dana says RDA will be next, I never trust him lol. There's really 3 choices: Cowboy, RDA and Khabib.

Cowboy (would need to beat Jury) is the most marketable but probably least deserving (got dominated by RDA, Nate and Pettis)

RDA most logical but Khabib recently dominated him. RDA isn't the most marketable guy

Khabib may be the most deserving but coming off that knee injury I don't think it would be wise to put him right in a title fight. Khabib marketable from the stand point he's undefeated but not the most entertaining style

Just watched the gsp vs serra fight again on fox sports 1. serra hit him with a bunch of bombs.

JDS looks a step slower.

With the heavy weight class rather shallow..he's probably going to get a title shot after 1-2 wins.

don't think he can even compete with Cain or Werdum with his performance though.

edit:

just noticed this..thought it was cool.

I was expecting a lot more from JDS since he left Team Nog and was training at Nova União with Aldo and Barao. I thought his boxing would've been better, he would've been throwing more leg kicks, and his footwork would've improved. Instead he looked a step slower and his technique was shot to hell. Couldn't figure out why he kept turning and backing away from Stipe. Unless he thought Stipe would rush in and he could catch him with something.

On that very note....

Was moving this weekend, finally caught up on everything.

Man, JDS/Stipe was a great fight, but it almost pains me to watch Junior at this point. He looks slow and takes a TON of punishment en route to his wins. :smh:

Nate was hurt, don't think there is any doubt about that, just had to cash that check.

115 could be a fun division, but Namajunas and PVZ will get some preferential treatment to stay near the title picture.

Lawsuit is interesting, doesn't seem like it holds a ton of weight though. Will be happy if it benefits the fighters in any way.

Honest question - how do you see Jones beating Cormier?
Bones is one of the most versatile if not most versatile striker in MMA. His wrestling may not be on par with DC's, but it is top notch as well. Will DC ragdoll Jones too? We will see, but Jones has shown a great base. He can use that to fend DC off for stretches so that Bones can get off standing.

I truly believe it's a toss up though.

I just hope and pray it isn't a clinch fest, which I believe unfortunately it will be. DC going to grind and hug the daylight out of Bones for 25 minutes. I hope the ref doesn't let them lay against the cage all fight.

Only fighter i've seen outwrestle jones was Gus. DC is a high level wrestler so I expect him to have the advantage but unexpected stuff happens in mma.

Did Gus outwrestle Jones? Gus isn't even known for his wrestling, it used to be his weakness

Man I need that rematch
