The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Aldo always flirts with moving up but he always stays. The latest report was his camp was trying to say that Aldo and Pettis could meet at a catchweight so Aldo wouldn't have to vacate his title. So it's obvious that Aldo wants to move up to 155 eventually but he for sure has a hesitation to vacate. If dude came out and said I vacate my title and Dana didn't make that fight with Pettis then I'd say Aldo would have something to complain about.

I understand from Aldo's perspective if he didn't want to wait on Pettis' health.
After that came out, Dana said he talked to Aldo's people and everything was fixed. Supposedly the problem was that Aldo didn't think he'd get the perks associated with being a champion heading into the fight. Which I think is probably a money thing. After that, Aldo's people were on board with everything. He'd vacate the title and fight Pettis. If he lost he could stay at 155 or decide to move back down and get the next title shot at the champion. The only thing they were waiting on was to see if Pettis would be ready to fight in July.

Aldo shouldn't have to vacate his title. Dana didn't make BJ vacate to make a fight with GSP.
We're in a different time though in MMA. Back then there wasn't as many legit contenders like there are today at lightweight and throughout MMA in general. Plus with BJ/GSP, I mean that was on a different level at the time and a bigger match than Aldo v Pettis. That fight just had to happen. Aldo v Pettis could eventually grow to be that dream match though. The only fight I would say is cool not to vacate would have been GSP v Spider or Spider v Jones. Those are the real super fights. Or were.

Exactly, Pettis fighting in July seems like a stretch. This is probably what kept Aldo from making the move.

Entire card for that ufc event in abu dhabi was announced. Who vs who hahaha.

I only look forward to kawajiri's fight. I honestly think the ufc should do better if they have events outside of the USA.

^ I think thats what you're gonna get when it comes to fight pass events. The main event will have two fighters that have name recognition, then it'll be generic fighter 1 vs 2 for the rest of the card. Fighters with some kind of popularity don't wanna be on fight pass cause sponsors aren't paying them as much as if they were on ppv, fs1, fox, etc.

Yes I'm looking forward to BELLATOR this Friday.

Also, looking forward to seeing Kron Gracie's MMA debut. Interested to see how well he does. He's a killer on the ground.

I kept thinking bellator was in an offseason or something. I only pay attention if Chandler has a fight coming up.

Damb I just found out that JDS moved from Team Noguiera to Nova Uniao. JDS said that he wants to learn better take down defense and wrestling from the Aldo/Barao camp. Still has designs on getting revenge on Cain. For now JDS wants Miocic or Reem

He should train with Phil Davis then. He had Gus out there stuffing almost all of jones' takedowns. I was amazed.

Everyone likes the JDS move to Nova but I'm not so sure. Their camp is made up of mostly lighter weight guys and none of them are really wrestlers. If he wanted to get better at wrestling he should've trained with Phil Davis and them like you mentioned or split time between the Noguieras and the Blackzillians. He should take a note from Glover and mix up his camps. Glover trains at the PIT, ATT, and Black House.

It's easy to say he should move to this camp or that camp but we don't know what all goes on in terms of moving camps or how easy it is to get accepted into a camp. His defensive wrestling is not even his biggest deficiency it's his cardio. To be honest, his cardio is adequate against 90% of the division though. Cain is just another beast. I do believe in JDS, I wouldn't write him off in another match with Cain. JDS has the desire to do it and the power isn't going anywhere. He just has to figure out how to increase the gas tank to give him a chance to hang with Cain past the second round.

They were. New season starts this Friday. King Mo and Rampage are fighting that night in the LHW tournament.

Will tune in for the Bellator card.

First time watching them.

There's always drama with the diaz boys. They should be allowed to fight in the women's divisions.

Nate

I personally think the UFC made a mistake giving Gil that much.

Great fighter, but 1-1 in the UFC coming off of a decision win over Diego Sanchez shouldn't warrant everything it sounds like he got.

Eventually, someone's going to threaten to leave, even as just a negotiation ploy, and they're going to have to let it happen if it doesn't make sense from a business standpoint.

Which is what the situation with Gil sounded like anyway. And look at the floodgates it may have opened.

Which was why I wasn't upset with Dana nor Gil for doing what they had to do. Everyone wanted to pile on Dana but it was clear that Gil was asking for the world. Again I don't blame Gil, because he knew some other org would give him that deal. But Dana was looking out for his business too. If Gil left it wouldn't have bothered me all that much tbh

It was trash during the free trial. Very limited fight collection

This fight pass, is this like a ufc channel? Where anything ufc-related is played 24/7? If it is I hope they play every ufc event starting from ufc 1.

I think we don't have that in our country. Every ufc event is free here anyway.

Fight Pass is an online subscription service. On it they show old footage from the beginning of UFC, WEC, Pride, Strikeforce, EliteXC and Affliction. It also shows the pre-prelim fights that use to be on Facebook and they have "exclusive" events that won't be shown in the US on tv. Which are basically those small international cards that have fighters most don't know. And in the future they're gonna start showing international versions of TUF on fight pass exclusively. For instance TUF Brazil will show on tv in Brazil but then it'll show on fight pass for international viewers. I think its available to international viewers too.

From what I've heard from people that have signed up for it, its a waste and not worth the money now.

Honestly what is Dana's issue with Cyborg? With Cyborg saying that she's gonna try to make it to 135 lbs, a lot of people were happy that they could finally see her vs Rousey. You figured Dana would be happy but then he started giving all of these excuses and making all of these hurdles for Cyborg to jump over before she even got a chance. Now he's straight up saying no.
“No. The Cyborg thing, I can’t believe people are asking me about Cyborg, number one. First of all, she does not fight here. Everybody realizes that, right? See weighs 145 pounds and her genius manager, Tito Ortiz, said that she would die if she went to 135 pounds. She’s also coming off a steroid suspension last time she was here. I can’t even, it drives me nuts. She will not fight Cyborg. I don’t know who she’s going to fight. She’s going to go film ‘Entourage,’ the movie, and then we will figure out what’s next for her.”
If Cyborg served her suspension, why is it even an issue? And does Rousey even have a huge part in the Entourage movie like he and UFC have been trying to portray? I just figured she had a cameo like a bunch of other athletes do and its a one day thing. Or maybe she's playing Drama's muscular girlfriend.
