The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Once jones beats Gus again and then Cormier, hopefully he just starts eating and goes to hw.

Then he can go at Cain

Bones at 230- 235 would be terrifying

 at the thought of Bones vs. Cain. I dont see anyway that would ever go well for Jones. He should just stay his *** at 205

It goes both ways, depending on who can impose their gameplan better. If Jones can keep Cain at a distance then Bones has higher chances of winning. However if Cain can get inside and start mauling Jones then we have a better fight.

The pace that Cain keeps and his pressure game is just straight up ungodly, I don't know how anyone can deal with it. A prime Fedor in a PRIDE ring, under PRIDE rules might have some success (now THAT would have been a fight I would like to see). IMO, Cain is just unstoppable in the octagon right now...Jones might be able to keep Cain off for a round but not forever. The only flaw I see in his game is his slightly wobbly chin, it would have to take the perfect strike though ala JDS in the first fight.

The fight is still 2 or 3 years away so we'll just have to wait and see. Jones is still improving while I think Cain is already fighting at peak levels.

sidebar I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one but I don't think anyone can stop Bones. If he went up to HW I'm convince he could more than compete. I'd even go as far as to say he could be champ. Homes is that good.

I think DC vs Jones will be a good indicator of how a Cain match might go.

Fast, elite grappling and good hands...

Both fights boil down to who can control the range and I think Jones would beat both guys. Even with their level of grappling it's almost impossible to get inside at their stature.

I think Alex has shown that rangy strikers can give Jones problems. It's going to take a different level of power though. Gustaffson can THROW and even he didn't really rock Jones in their fight. Ideally you need a Overeem type dude. Enough size to negate the usual reach advantage, ******ed power, beast clinch work and great TDD.

But he doesn't have a chin so Jones would still probably win

Bones gonna Bones...

Guy was just flowing last night. Clinch work was savage

Plus all the funky ****... I loved when Glover was trying to get the underhook with his back to the cage and Jon was locking up his arm and elevating it trying to hyper extend his elbow. The way he utilises leverage is pretty amazing.

I don't see who is going to beat him at 205 now.

Now he's proved he can eat bombs there are no more questions to be asked.

It was a great card on the whole. Some wild finishes. Anybody see the flying knee on the prelims???

Caught the replay before the main card and was thinking why is Chris Bael fighting Sam Cassell then BOOM!

Also I was rolling at the slow motion replays of Jones punching Teixeira's mouth guard out.

IDK man, HW is a whole different ballgame.

JDS, Werdum, & Cain would represent greater challenges than he's ever faced in LHW. You've got a guy as big as Cain or JDS who hit harder as hard or harder than anyone he's ever fought at 205 (Jackson & Glover) but whose gas tanks are seemingly limitless.

I just don't see how he'd beat Cain namely. As others have said the guy just doesn't stop working. And he'd easily be the best wrestler Jones has ever faced. Yes Chael has an amazing power double, yes Chael is a fantastic wrestler in his own right but Cain is better. Cain is also a complete fighter. He can change levels better than Chael. He can feint a takedown and go back up for a combo, and you have to respect it all unlike Chael because unlike Chael, Cain can put out your lights with one punch.

I see Jones beating guys like Nelson (who'd still have a punchers chance), Overeem (who'd be a goner the longer the fight went), Hunt (who also has a punchers chance), Browne (who'd also be a goner the longer the fight went), Barnett, Miocic and Bigfoot. But just the sheer size and power of some of those guys mentioned represent a danger just not present at 205. We've seen in the Gus fight that a similarly sized 205 pounder can nullify some of the advantages Jones has over his opponents. Now put Jones in with guys who are just naturally bigger, stronger men, and that size advantage goes out the window.

Granted Jones with a 84.5 inch reach is still going to have a longer reach than pretty much every HW in the UFC, he's going to be dealing with guys who can go toe to toe with his infighting. Jones simply would not be able to dominate a guy like Cain in close quarters like he did Glover. Nor would he be able to stuff takedowns at will.

Jones is as skilled as they come in MMA, but any experienced martial artist will tell you, size matters. It's not everything but it's a huge factor. Could "Bones" thrive in the HW division? Sure, is it a foregone conclusion? Far from it.

One thing for certain, two things for sure, I'd sure love to see him take the step up. Intriguing match-ups await at HW.

I wish there was a Delorean so we could drop the two of them off at a Pride open weight grand prix a few years ago.

We always wonder how a dominant lhw would do if he moved up. When Shogun was a beast we wondered if he could beat Fedor. When machida looked unbeatable people said he could beat Mir. Wand versus Crocop is still one of the most awesome beatdowns i've ever seen.

Watch out for Doo-Ho Choi. Problem at 145, serious KO power. Just needs to stay healthy. He should be undefeated, many think he won a split loss to Kagiyama.

Love Jon Jones.. but no way he competes in the HW division. He could probably beat the gatekeepers but no way he hangs with the top guys of that division.. I don't see him beating JDS.. and definitely wouldn't do anything to Cain.

That's a big step up in punching power. There's a lot of lhw's that hit like trucks, but hw's that weigh 15-30 pounds more hit like tanks. jones has shown he has a really good chin though.

Yeah fighters in the HW division hit harder but I don't think its that big of a difference. Can't find the article but it was on Yahoo about JBJ and his family and it stated he weighs around 230-235 lbs when he's not fighting. That's 5-10 lbs less than Cain, who doesn't cut at all. Give JBJ some time and he could definitely compete at HW.

Eh, Spider has embarrassed a few LHWs in his day.

Not that easy to call IMO.

Spider beat Forrest, Bonnar and Irvin at 205. Not exactly a murderers row.

None of whom have the wrestling ability or the hand-fighting ability "Bones" possesses.

4 out of 5 times I'd have to give it to Jones.

Note the word "embarrassed" in my original statement. Not "beat", but embarrassed.

Forrest was a champ. I was never a fan, but he was a champ.

Beat Shogun. "Beat" Rampage (I thought Q won, but the leg kicks were MEAN).

And Anderson embarrassed him.

All good yo. I'm not one for predictions and ratios/percentages for fights that won't happen anyway. I don't even do that **** for fights that ARE happening. HA!

You're entitled to your opinion but everything I've seen with Spider against wrestlers like Chael and Weidman leads me to believe he'd have a very difficult time with "Bones".

That's where hand-fighting comes into play, and I have a hard time believing that Spider could do anything to stop "Bones" from maintaining control over him.

Forrest is a completely different type of fighter than Jones, apples to oranges here sir. Could care less if he beat Shogun or Rampage because neither are remotely similar to "Bones" and neither is he.

But hey you're entitled to your opinion, I just think it's an off-base one.

A Jones/Spider fight I believe would look like when Sonnen was on top of Silva, except instead of patty cake shots from Sonnen imagine Jones reigning down those elbows
sick.gif

^ Yeah Jones would easily take Silva down but idk if he would. Jones comes off as the kind of guy that likes to beat fighters at what they do best. Most people thought he would stand with Sonnen but he took him down. They thought he would take down Glover and use his reach, but he stood with him.

True. Jones however is one of the smartest fighters in the UFC. In a 5 round fight best believe he'd go for takedowns when they presented themselves

If it was a boxing/muay thai match, Silva (in his prime) would win. If it is mma then Jones would have a higher chance of winning. No need for long explanations hahaha.

Meanwhile Cain and Werdum are set to coach TUF: Latin America. If both are healthy then we can also see them fight by November. My body is ready.
