The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

It smells like Gil's camp backed out. I won't say fear but the story and details are suspect.

Khabib's manager called out Nate Diaz instead.
Yeah I'm starting to think that Gil backed out too. I see this happening more and more. You have top 5 fighters but they don't want to fight another fighter in the top 5. They'd rather sit around and hope they back in to a title shot or fight a guy that's barely in the top 10 so they can continue to pile up wins.

If it's proven true, Gil loses respect from me. Fear is weakness. I was picking Melendez to win the fight as well because of experience, cardio, and his well-rounded game. Gil's been in the cage with the best at 155. It doesn't make sense to back down from Khabib.

I don't buy that he's backing down from anyone.

He took the Sanchez fight with nothing to gain from it.  Khabib is a good fighter, but what exactly would Gil gain from it except to stay busy and beat another good fighter?  It would be his second fight in a row where he's the higher profile fighter by far.

I still want to see them fight of course, but if I'm in his shoes, I wouldn't exactly jump at the opportunity.  Now getting a date with Pettis, Grant or the winner of Benson and Thomson, that's another story.

Just watched "Like Water" on Netflix.. can't believe it's still on there.

Glad I watched it, gave a good insight to Anderson that I didn't know before.

There's a handful of MMA docs on Netflix. One on GSP, Dustin Poirier and ones with Josh Barnett and Cain I have yet to watch.

It's nuts to see how far the sport has come even in the past 5-7 years. Seeing how far GSP and Poirier have come since those docs were filmed is pretty crazy to me.

I'll check out the one on Diamond for sure.

I watched that one I think last year on one of the movie channels. Fighting in local promotions and hoping to make it to the big leagues is rough. I don't blame guys for trying to get on a show like tuf. Financially struggling and trying to make it in a profession where you get injured all the time is rough. Even established pros have a hard time with all the expenses.

Cruz tore his groin. Out of 169. Vacates title.

Barao v. Faber now.

Props to Faber for taking the fight, but feel bad for Dom man... :smh:

Glad we still get a great fight out of it. Possibly even a better one.

Faber on a roll. Cruz coming off being out for ages.

Feel bad for Cruz, but not mad at all.

Pissed my man Faber took it with less than a month. No full camp, but a shot is a shot.

damn was looking forward to seeing cruz back in the cage.
i actually think faber can make this a good fight and even win.

Faber has been GRINDING.  Was one of my candidates for fighter of the year 2013, along with Robbie Lawler and Demetrious Johnson.

He's not beating Barao though.  Did anyone see anything in their first match that would indicate otherwise?  I know he's been on a tear, but Barao is simply on another level.

I had Barao beating Cruz either way, but it does suck.  Cruz just can't stay healthy.  He might never get back to that elite level he was at.

Good luck to Faber. If he loses again it's gonna be really difficult for him to get another title shot. Unless he moves back up to 145.

This is Faber's last hurrah

I'd love to see Faber take this and probably set up a Faber Barao III lol

Unfortunately Faber got outclassed by Cruz and then got outclassed by Barao. I'd like to see the odds on this match.
