The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Bobby green beating Thompson kind of ****** everything up

Josh is a perennial top 5/10 guy. Josh vs. RDA would make sense now as another potential title eliminator.

Bobby so new/young. Same with Khabib. Both are guys I feel need a few more top 5/10 wins. To prove themselves but also to get to a point where they can market the PPV.

Division is LOADED right now though. And will we see Aldo at 155 in the next year? Bendo I'm sure will want another fight ASAP.

Can't wait to see it all play out.

Tough loss for Bendo but I see him getting to fight again in December when the UFC finally comes to AZ. But I think Ben Saunders should be getting some more love for that badass Omaplata he pulled.

No love for the Clay Collard vs Max Hollaway fight???

That Collard kid is tough as shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! :smh: Gonna be interesting to see how he develops cause he's got skills too. That being said Max looked excellent. Also called out Bermudez and i'd love to see that happen again.

RDA is problem. Guy is legit nasty everywhere. Hate to see Bendo lose like that but i wasn't all that surprised. He tends to get hit a lot and with some dudes you can't afford to let that happen.

155 is a complete mess. It's so loaded you need 2 belts in that division to allow all the fights to play out as they should :smh:

If I remember correctly, that Collard took the fight on short notice. One can wonder how he performs if he had a full camp.

2 belts for the LW division is really needed cause the other one takes more than a year to be defended

They really keep ******* things up with the BS TUF show. Nobody gives no damns about that **** and all it's doing is log jamming the division.

Though now that Pettis is champion, the narrative of his inactivity has shifted. Before, when Pettis was just another exciting contender in the UFC's loaded lightweight division, a 16-month absence could be worked around. Now, his idleness affects every 155-pound fighter under UFC contract, and more than a few restless contenders have already begun grumbling about Pettis holding up the division.

"I don't think these guys are educated whatsoever," Pettis said in response. "The TUF gig is something I didn't choose to happen. The UFC chose that. I'm not going to say no to an opportunity like that. That signs me up for three months filming for that, so that's why the fight got pushed back all the way. I could be ready to fight by August, at the latest. From now to August, if I started a training camp, I could be ready to go.

They won't let that show die. Ratings are absolute crap. They need to develop another show to replace it. I'd like to see a hard knocks type of show where they film a camp / gym for a few months.

^That would be a good show if it was on HBO/Showtime just like Hard Knocks. Hard Knocks works great on HBO but when the NFL Network shows replays of it, its not the same cause they censor things. But they may also have trouble getting fighters to agree to it. I know a lot of fighters didn't like doing Primetime. But I agree they need to just let TUF go away.

Anyone else think that maybe its time UFC re-evalutate the idea that a title fight has to be the main event on the card its on? Just look at 178. The title fight between Mighty Mouse and Cariaso is probably the least anticipated fight on the card.

I don't pay much attention to what the main event is. I look at the card as a whole.

You could argue that some other fights might make for good 5 rounders though.

I would imagine the main event has the greatest effect on the PPV figures?

If you switched the main and co-main i'm pretty Conor/Dustin would do better numbers.

Can't be disrespecting your title holders like that though i guess....

There are just too many fighters and too many events. If they are making money(which they are), then it's a smart business move by them. We will just continue to see ppv cards that have mediocre at best fighters on it.

Barao by 48-47 decision, to take back his 135 strap. Really a weak and underwhelming PPV card. Disappointing quality, Dana. Only other fight I'm looking forward to on 177 is involving Ramsey Nijem. Castillo a bit, but doesn't wow me. Even though he's TAM.

Super tough loss for Bendo. I disagree with the stoppage - thought RDA could have hit him a few more times to see if Bendo was going to go out for sure. This definitely shakes things up a bit.

Benson dropped like a sack of potatoes, there is literally nothing wrong w/ that stoppage,

Bendo was done. Big John could have waited a few more shots but he was done.

It's hard as a ref cause you have to factor in how tough the guy on the receiving end is and how viscous the aggressor is.

Some dudes got some relatively weak gnp which enables guys to get back sometimes. Dos Anjos is a beast though so it would have been another 2-3 shots before Bendo was limp again. Zero chance he recovered from that situation imo.

zero chance? bendo didn't get knocked out from the showtime kick. he still had his arms up (probably to defend himself)... and then he jumped right up afterward and started running around. i thought it was a bad stoppage.

i think maynard/edgar ii - edgar got knocked down way worse than that multiple times in a round and he came back strong.

ref shouldn't jump in until the guy isn't defending himself

I thought it was slightly early myself..but at the same time I'm not really against the stoppage there cause he dropped like a sack of potatoes

Korean Zombie injured his shoulder again and is out of his fight
mean.gif

"Yes, unfortunately, he strained the shoulder that he dislocated in the Aldo fight. No structural damage, he just has to do rehab for four weeks, then the doctors will reevaluate."

Tough set back for Korean zombie.

It's hard to see bendo take a loss like that but there're good match ups for him like Eddie Alvarez and Ross Pearson

bendo would blanket pearson with his wrestling and win another decision. he's like a much larger maynard that doesn't gas in that aspect (wrestling). alvarez isn't in his league. i wouldn't mind seeing bendo v. josh thompson again. i thought josh won the first fight and they are pretty evenly matched.

Its out of character for this new version of Rumble, but glad that he's calling out Gus and telling him to take the fight against him. There's no one else for either of them to fight and Gus is risking having to sit out for up to a year if DC wins. Jones is in that Silva/GSP class where a loss warrants an immediate rematch if he wants.

Other news:
  • OSP vs Feijao announced for Nov 8 in Brazil
  • Demian Maia is out indefinitely with a serious bone infection.
  • With Bisping vs Rockhold highly probable, Machida is looking to face CB Dollaway.
  • In the next few months, UFC wants to start out of competition drug testing. With the end goal being year round blood and urine tests for all fighters.
  • And Dana is #8 on GQ's 25 Biggest Sleazebags in Sports.

Say what you want about Dana, he still tries his hardest to put on fights the fans want to see. That's all I care about

The out of competition drug testing is also pretty cool, I hope it becomes a reality

Quick, early stoppage but not incorrect. As I've said over and over.

Hate it had to be him.

Bendo vs. Eddie would be an entertaining war of attrition.

I know Dollaway just beat Carmont, surprisingly. But that's the best they could muster up for Dragon?

It seems like max holloway and/or cowboy cerrone are on every card

Holloway is fighting again. He's replacing Korean Zombie on Fight Night 53.

There's no one else for him to fight unless he wants to wait. Weidman is fighting Belfort. Kennedy, Jacare, Mousasi, Romero all have fights. And Bisping is more than likely gonna fight Rockhold. So Dollaway is the only top 10 fighter available.

I really hope that Overeem was joking when he tweeted out that he weights 210 lbs right now.
