The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Dana won't go for the catchweight. Not a chance. No way the 155 lb. belt stays on the shelf longer than it has to.

Make Aldo give up his 145 belt, and if he loses at 155, he gets an immediate shot to claim it back.

With a lack of stars in the sport right now, Zuffa will lean towards Pettis' side here because of his marketability.

That was the deal that was reported. I don't remember Dana's exact quote but he said, Aldo would vacate the 145 belt and fight Pettis at 155.  If he won the belt, he would stay at 155. But if he lost, he could decide to stay at 155 or he could move back down to 145 and fight for the belt. If he doesn't, then two other guys would go at 145.

i wouldnt mind a catch weight, but whats the point. aldo all ready went thru his division and has an incredibly hard time making weight.
the logical next step if he really feels hes one of the best in the world is to move up to light weight and prove it.

Catchweights are acceptable to me if it was like Anderson Silva in his prime v Jon Jones. Other than that, I'd rather see the stakes be high for a fight between Aldo and Pettis. A catchweight fight is nothing more than an exhibition. Don't get me wrong, I'd mark it on my calendar and clear my schedule to watch the fight, but for both guys to keep their belts after a fight seems weak.

Aldo's move to 155 impacts two fighters, himself and Barao. If Aldo loses to Pettis at 155 then gets the automatic title shot at 145, either Barao can't move up to FW or Aldo has to stay at LW.

I want to see both Brasilians move up. My hunch is Mendes takes the FW strap from Barao and anybody else at 145.

I think Barao said he didn't want to move up, but who knows how he would feel if Aldo took the 155 strap.

I expect big things from Mendes at 145 :smokin , even if Aldo stays...

According to Dana, the issue with Aldo has been cleared up. Aldo's team was supposedly worried that he wouldn't be treated like a champion in the fight with Pettis. And if he loses, he can move back down to 145 lbs and fight the new champion. I'm guessing they guaranteed Aldo a certain amount of money.

Also Dana predicted that it'll be Mendes vs Swanson for the belt if/when Aldo vacates the title.

Rumble as cutting way too much weight. This weight might be a blessing for his career.

I think he's gonna put those hands on davis

I knew it had to be posturing on Aldo's side. It's always about that money. Those stipulations seem fair to me, and I'm glad he wouldn't get to automatically keep his belt if he loses to Pettis.

Davis going to hug on him and lay on him for the entire fight

Champ, your right, Davis' striking has improved, but they aren't training together full-time anymore.

Davis knows the only way Rumble can beat him is if he lands a big shot. Phil will grind out a decision.

Phil been in there with Rashad, Lil Nog and Machida.

I can't see AJ catching him by winging bombs. As much as i want it to happen

I personally would like to see Rumble KO him, and maybe Rumble can learn some defensive wrestling techniques from Evans. I am not fond of Davis' fighting style at all. Davis would have to be a fool to leave any openings though

Agreed. Have never been excited for a Phil Davis fight. Dude's wrestling is dominant, though.

Cowboy says he was 7 beers deep at that last press conference...  :smokin

Not actual fight news, but does anyone else see Rousey leaving UFC and going the Carano way? She just did The Expendables 3 and Fast and Furious 7 and now she signed on to be in the Entourage movie and some other movie in which she may be one of the leads.

Gina was never the fighter Ronda is though. Ronda's movie roles it completely tied to her UFC fame. If she starts losing, them roles will dry up quick

Gina can throw dem yambs at any director, actor or producer for a role. And to be honest, right now the UFC needs Gina more that she needs them.

Ronda is one of the top 3 stars in the UFC right now, as bad as that sounds...

As long as Zuffa can pay her to stick around, I think she will. But that new Hollywood deal she signed today seems like she is working her way out of the sport slowly but surely.

I would say it's a possibility, but also that Rousey was born to fight. She seems to have it in her DNA while Carano sort of just fell into it (Muay Thai)

I would say Rousey would have to really start to go on a bad losing streak for her to call it quits. She seems to really appreciate being the face of women's MMA and seems to revel in the fight business and all that it brings. Anything can happen in MMA though, I think I forget to remember that fighting and training can take such a toll on the body and spirit. Randomly retiring wouldn't be shocking to me at all.

That Thiago Silva thing is crazy. He really went in there cause he thought his wife was cheating on him.
According to sources close to BJPENN.COM, we have learned that upon hearing of his wives possible infidelities with her Jiu Jitsu coach, Pablo Popovich, the top UFC light-heayweight barged into their school gun-drawn, looking for Pablo.

He then left the scene to barricade himself inside his home while the Broward Sheriff department SWAT team places a perimeter outside the home.

Silva situation is exactly the reason why you never smashed a married woman :smh:

Wonder how this will impact his career
