Here's a comprehensive look at the discussion taking place about weight cutting in MMA

http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/12/...es-iv-ban-proposed-at-historic-weight-cutting

The outline for the new divisions would be as follows, by division: 115, 125, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185, 195, 205, 225, 265 (heavyweight) and super heavyweight. The 170-pound division would be abolished.

Personally I think Big John McCarthy is right on. More weight classes wouldn't do anything and just make the sport A LOT worse IMO. Nobody wants to see that many weight classes, that's ridiculous. The good thing is, each promotion can still use whatever classes they want, they don't have to utilize these proposed ones from what I understand

"The weight classes are just one small element," McCarthy said. "If it's just the weight classes, then it's doing nothing. It's not gonna change anything. It all has to be in conjunction."

If stricter weight-cutting rules are implemented, encouraging fighters to compete closer to their natural weight, McCarthy said it's important to give fighters more options with regards to weight class.

I also now believe the IV ban was the first step in correcting this extreme weight cutting issue, it was a good move

Random question: Anybody train BJJ or MMA for that matter?

I'm seriously considering signing up for some classes. I've always been intrigued by the technique involved and whatnot. Feel like it would be dope ot leanr

I've been training BJJ for about 4 years now. Within BJJ there's a lot of different styles. Look up gyms in your area since most spots offer a deal one week free or at the very least, your first lesson is free. My biggest take away after training: Build strength and cardio in different ways than at the gym, you become more flexible, better understanding of ground fighting when watching MMA, and of course confidence in knowing self defense.

Ew don't turn MMA into boxing. There's already too many belts. I actually think they should kill 125 mens division

Add a 165 lb division, abolish 170 and add 175.

Lower 205 to 200.

200+ is HW. Lil ****** need not apply. No max at HW.

Watching Ariel's preview show, they saying Cowboy is such a different fighter since when he lost to RDA. They say he is showing new wrinkles. They never explained what these wrinkles were. The man in the hat is picking Cowboy

I honestly don't see how he's that much different

he's beaten some guys he should have (Makdessi, Jury, Miller, Martins, Dunham)

He seemed to have lost against Bendo

He beat Eddie, didn't look spectacular

He took Barboza out with a jab, after getting nearly dropped by Barboza the first 5 seconds of the fight

Not saying Cowboy can't win I just want to know how he's this different fighter

Yeah... He gonna get worked by RDA I don't see it going any other way.

Well this is definitely the year of the underdog in title fights...but yeah Cerrone is probably getting beat down. I still think RDA is on something tho. Regardless, if he runs through Cerrone I'm thinking there's a much better chance of Conor and Frankie happening

-DOG, one of the physical specimans in all of MMA just destroyed

-Cowboy Cowboying

"Well, if I’m going to be a thousand percent honest with you, if you lined six people up there with Ferguson I’d have no idea who he was," he said at a media day this past Saturday. "That’s nothing against him. I just don’t watch fighting. I just live. I just do me. Of course, I know Edson Barboza and RDA, because those are guys I fought. But I don’t know him. It’s not a disrespectful thing like I don’t know who you are, it’s just…I didn’t stay for the fight.

"I know the name, I know of course his name. I just couldn’t pick him out of a line-up. I don’t know his fighting style, never seen him fight."

Wow, Cruz is on the mic, he's a natural. Him, Stann and Mir need to get all of the fights that Goldberg/Rogan don't do

Kenny and Anik can kick rocks

I like Kenny but cruz on another level with breakdowns and technical commentary. Mir was good when be did the wec, hated bonnar tho he did give us the "ran off the wall like a ninja" line with showtime

Cole Miller up to fight next..

I remember like it was just yesterday, Conor was coming off an ACL recovery after beating Holloway and was already starting to talk that talk... it was about a year and a half ago.. Cole Miller WAS BEGGING to shut Conor up and not let "fighters like him talk their way to the top". They both got on MMA Hour with Ariel and Conor was being a douche bag
roll.gif
talking over Miller not letting him get any words in

They were all set to fight in Ireland until Miller got injured....

Conor went on to fight Brandao.. and the rest is history...

This was only a year and a half ago.. I still can't believe how far he's come and how clearly I remember their beef. It seemed like it happened 5 years ago though

Any news on what was the story with the scale last night at the weigh ins?

Also, sorry for the noob question but what happens if you don't make weight

Turns out it was probably correct for the most part

Fighter who can't make weight forfeits 20% or so of their fight purse to their opponent

So they just get to fight overweight? I guess it's not that big of a deal but if you're five pounds over that could make all the difference in the world in terms of replenishment and whatnot
