The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

I'm curious how much Hendricks has next fight. He took an awful lot of punishment. That could be a fight that starts him o a downward spiral.

Agreed. I hate that fighter A can out strike fighter B for the first 3 mins of a round, but if fighter B gets a takedown and lays on the guy for the next 2 min, most judges will give it to B cause of the takedown.

Man this sequence...

Such a thing of beauty.

Robbie Lawler's defensive boxing was extremely impressive especially by MMA standards. When was the last time we saw someone effectively parry and roll with punches like that? Andy? BJ? Rampage has some pretty good boxing defense as well. I can't remember anyone else. As I mentioned in my other post he boxed him up in a phone booth.

Don't see that very often in MMA due to leg kicks and take downs. Good looking on the article.

Listened to the MMA Hour with Ariel, the Welterweight division is a mess.

Depending on Hendricks' injury status, they could do a 4-man tournament (Rory, Lombard, Woodley, Diaz) and whoever shows out gets the next shot. Hendricks said his arm/elbow/possible shoulder are messed up. Probably expect an announcement on his status in the coming days.

Regardless of Hendricks, there really is no clear #1 contender. Woodley was on the show and made his case. If you look at Lombard, he's beat two guys who have defeated Woodley. Woodley brought up a good point, that when he lost to Nate, Nate was probably on some stuff. Sounded like excuses but it's still a fair point. I personally have Rory and Lombard ahead of Woodley but neither really stand out. Especially when you look at who would sell a PPV, you really have a debate.

They could go with the "Rory is the Prince to take GSP's throne" but I feel like that angle is pure wolf tickets. Rory's resume is pretty solid though. Lombard shows flashes but then takes his foot off the gas and has done so a number of times now in the UFC. His resume is also pretty legit. Woodley simply doesn't have the resume but you can tell his game is quickly evolving. He's worked hard to round out and wants to put on a show, unlike Rory and Lombard at times.

Why is diaz even one of the options for the next challenger? He needs at least 1 win to be included in the conversation. I say rory/lombard/woodley/lawler for #1 contender.

Or gsp can just return and we now have a contender hahaha. But seriously I am curious if he will get an immediate title match if he returns.

Diaz will always be there. Again, I've said it a few times that he doesn't deserve a damb thing. But his ability to put on a show and draw buys is undeniable. Diaz won't get the shot though. If anything Dana will make him take one fight with Lawler and Diaz will decline lol.

If Matt Brown beats Silva, his name should be up there too.

GSP was on the show too and he sounded like he would come back for sure, but not anytime soon. I would wager that Hendricks would defend his title once and then GSP will come back.

Woodley bringing up that Nate might have been on something is a terrible excuse. Just re-watched the fight between him and Nate and it was basically the same thing everyone thought would happen in the fight with Condit. First round he came out strong and rocked Nate, then got sloppy and Nate rocked him. Second round he gassed big time and it was all Nate. Third round he blitzed Nate, got him down and blew his load by the middle of the round and tried to lay on him to catch his breath until the ref stood them up. From then on he was gassed. Fourth round, Nate just picked him apart.

Diaz is always gonna be an option because of regardless of if he loses or walks away for 3 years he's always gonna have a big loyal fan base. As of right now, I think Diaz is UFC's first choice to fight Hendricks. According to Nick, they paid for him to fly to Dallas, gave him a free ticket for the event and everything. Something he says that they haven't done in a long time. Plus he has Rousey campaigning for him so I'm sure that helps out when it comes to Dana.

If Woodley, Lombard and Rory are all healthy, and the UFC goes with Diaz to get the next shot, my interest in the UFC will go to a level of such disgust I'm afraid to even think about it.

I'm praying that the reason they flew Nick out was to show him that they still want him around and are extending the olive branch. Maybe they're hoping that will get Nick to buy in to agreeing to have one fight before getting a title shot. Lawler, Rory, Lombard or Woodley would all be great matchups.

Of course I would but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't be disgusted with that decision either. When they gave Sonnen the shot against Jones, at least there were injuries. Giving Diaz a shot off two losses when there are 3 healthy contenders coming off wins would be disgusting. And I am one of the bigger Diaz fans you'll meet.

Idk if they actually flew him out... He was out there for Canelo the previous week, and seems to always be out there lol. He might just just shown up knowing him

Agree on all counts. And this is why I want to see Diaz vs Lawler II more than any other fight right now.

"Disgusted" is a strong word for a reaction to a potential Diaz/Hendricks fight

I'm surprised a Lawler rematch isn't being discussed more.

Canelo-Angulo was in Vegas. UFC 171 was in Dallas.

I think they should have Rory v Woodley at 174 in June. Make it a title eliminator fight. Hendricks said that he wants to have his first title defense in Sept/Oct but it depends on his elbow so it could be later.

Some pretty good non PPV cards coming up.

Not feeling this putting full cards on Fight Pass **** though.

That's right, forgot it was in Big Rigg's city. Feel like Vegas is just the default spot

The circumstances make it disgusting. Obviously it would be an intriguing fight. Diaz doesn't deserve a damb thing. Plus Diaz can't deal with wrestlers so most likely Hendricks would just control him

Diaz has a problem with wrestlers but I think he may be able to deal with Hendricks on the ground. You have to wonder about Hendricks BJJ. In Diaz's fight with GSP, Diaz tried going for sweeps and different subs from the ground but because GSP is knowledgable in BJJ he was able to counter everything. Not sure if Hendricks has that knowledge yet.
