The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

yup, maia deserves that shot. he's going to be 39 in a couple months, so his time could be winding down fast.

Damian Maia always been classy. I hope he can get that title fight.

maia and condit didnt take any damage. they should be ready for a quick turnaround
Stupid question but there's no medical suspension for submissions correct?

I'd imagine there would be one if you get choked unconscious

Random, but the top of the UFC welterweight rankings looks like this now:

Champion : Tyron Woodley
1 Robbie Lawler
2 Stephen Thompson
3 Demian Maia
4 Carlos Condit

Jake Shields beat all of them before except Thompson. And he beat Dan Henderson who's about to fight for the middleweight title. If he wasn't so boring dude would probably still be in the mix there somewhere.

Having said that, hopefully Maia keeps up the finishes, he's one of the handful of elite grapplers that's actually really interesting to watch

I have a feeling they will give Maia the Ryan Bader treatment. He's right up there but gets ignored for the title shot, until he gets knocked out by another contender.

Woodley vs Thompson for main
Maia vs Lawler co-main

GSP stay out or aim for the money fights.

Just watched fights on dvr. Can't believe how fast Maia got the choke. Knew it was all over once he took the back though. Thought the fight might go something like the Maia-Brown fight but geez. Entertaining card overall.

Great to see Pettis pull out the window. Definitely has some interesting fights in fw.

Anyone think Pettis was potentially losing that fight? It was really close IMO

I would match him up with #5 cub Swanson next. It's a "safe" fight in terms of striking skill sets. Sucks that he trains at jacksons though, idk if they would fight

Sherdog is suggesting Stephens which wouldn't be bad rematch from years ago. Stephens tried to wrestle him in the first fight, split decision

yeah

midway through the 2nd, it seemed like he started to get drained and the grappling started to go against him

if he didnt land that sub, he could have spent the rest of the fight on his back and may have lost 2-1

guys are going to continue to do it to him 155 or 145, at least he has the height advantage against most fighters at 145

I missed out on the discussion last night, but you guys already want to put Pettis vs the top 3 of the division? Not smart

Gotta ease him in a bit more. Edgar going to lay on him and Pettis don't deserve Aldo before max Holloway

If Holloway doesn't fight Aldo then ok, have max maybe fight Pettis

Couple of thoughts after last nights card:

Pettis looked good but not great at FW. Not sure if he used all his energy in the first trying to finish, but he was clearly tired when the second round came. It was a great finish and win for pettis, but would really like to his tested again. His cardio looked off but it's his first fight at fw. even though oliviera lost, I thought he looked good against a former 155 champ. kept attacking with submissions and I would've scored it Charles if pettis didn't pull off the sub. Didn't realize he is still very young.

Heart is broken for NBK. I really like condit and would've loved to see him get another shot and become the undisputed WW champ. Dude has always been in the top 3 for years. I know he's been talking about retiring since his lawler fight so wouldn't be surprised if this is it. Maia's grappling continues to impress and leave me in awe. The first time I really noticed his grappling skills was when he totally shut down Fitch. Happy to see a veteran continue his tear in the WW division.

no ones saying put him against the top 3, we were just discussing how he does against the rest of the division

Tide was turning in the second. But all three judges gave the first round a 10-8 for Pettis.
