The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

great win for benson, totally disregarded the benefits of his smaller size at 170

he should fight where ever, its all about making money right now ala cowboy

cause just like cowboys, hes not beating showtime

Dana says Rory has a fight lined up.. have to assume it's for the title
I was half-listening, thought Bendo was referencing GSP post-fight, no? Smooth has long been obsessed with a super-fight against Rush.

I've assumed in recent times that Rory Mac would get his Lawler rematch for the title, after Lombard's failed test foiled the Montreal bout.

At WW maybe someone like Kelvin Gastelum.
Gastelum is a MW now, per Dana at 183 post-fight presser.

Lineker forced to bantamweight as well.

Ty chAmpcru for the info kept my night alive
My pleasure.

Bendo was referring to Rory, Champ. In the presser a reporter asked Dana and Dana laughed and said Rory has a fight lined up but didn't spill the beans on who the opponent was

GSP is probably a long way from returning, per his interview with Ariel on Monday

Holloway vs. Cub already set for April. Should be a pretty cool fight

Thanks for clarifying. I was lost in my thoughts.

That's (April card) is in Newark too. I'll probably go.

As nice of a run Max is currently on, Cub is going to give him L #4. Holloway doesn't have one bad loss on his resume: McGregor, Bermudez, Poirier. Unless Frankie took part of Swanson's soul with that fifth-round neck crank.

That determination bruhs.

Hats off to Bendo. He endured they early pressure and dragged him into the deep end.

Despite losing there was plenty of upside from Thatch. Great footwork and movement/head movement., excellent instinctive takedowns and he held a good pace all the way through. The ground game clearly needs work though.

Hollaway vs Miller was fun to watch. The way Cole pulled guard and hit the sweep into the heel hook attempt :x :pimp:

Whole time i was watching it i was thinking about how Conor would have faired against him. Standing he would have got lit but there's a chance he could have caught him with some crazy **** off the bottom.

And them two white guys who fought at MW. Walsh and next dude.... That was like watching two UFC career mode characters come to life and slug it out. Dudes were throwing bombs for 3 rounds and the crowd were still boo

Khabib has a plan for 2015, look out Showtime

"This is my plan," Nurmagomedov told MMAFighting.com. "I want, in this year, three fights -- Cerrone, after that I fight for the belt and after that I defend the belt."

The undefeated Nurmagomedov (22-0) was here last weekend as part of the Paradise Warrior Retreat seminar program at TheFitExpo inside the Los Angeles Convention Center. He said he has just begun training at 100 percent. Nurmagomedov has been rehabbing in Las Vegas under the watchful eye of the UFC, which has provided him an apartment and a car.

Nurmagomedov, 26, tore his meniscus last July, just days after he and Cerrone verbally agreed to a fight at UFC 178 in September. Before that, the two were going to clash in July, but Nurmagomedov, a Muslim, was fasting for Ramadan. Nurmagomedov believes he and "Cowboy" have some unfinished business -- plus the bout just makes sense from a rankings perspective.

"I told them this is a very good matchup," Nurmagomedov said. "I'm No. 2, he's No. 3. Who wins gets a title shot."

Eight weeks before his first fight back, Nurmagomedov will head back to American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, Calif., the place he calls home during training camps. In the mean time, the focus will be getting everything fine-tuned.

The one thing Nurmagomedov has excelled at during this time off due to injury is keeping himself relevant. His English has improved exponentially and he is a regular on Twitter, calling out Cerrone and UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Nurmagomedov is quick to correct, though, when asked about his trash-talking.

"I'm not a trash talker," Nurmagomedov said. "I say truth, you understand? I say and I do. Why was Muhammad Ali the greatest? Because he say and he do. I am 22-0. I am not 22-10."

Welp.
Anderson Silva fails 2nd drug test
LAS VEGAS -- Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has failed a second drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

NSAC executive director Bob Bennett confirmed to ESPN.com on Tuesday that Silva, 39, failed his postfight urine test after a unanimous decision win against Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan. 31.

Silva tested positive for the steroid drostanolone -- the same banned substance he tested positive for during an out-of-competition test taken on Jan. 9. Silva also tested positive for anti-anxiety medication Oxazepam and Temazepam, which is used to treat sleep deprivation.

In total, Silva (34-6) submitted to three NSAC tests. He tested positive for drostanolone and androstane on Jan. 9. He then provided a clean sample on Jan. 19 followed by a second failed test on Jan. 31.

Silva, who had never tested positive for a banned substance, initially faced a nine-month suspension for his first offense. Bennett did not know whether the commission would increase that length because of a second failed test.

"I can't speak for the [NSAC] Chairman nor can I speak for the commissioners," Bennett told ESPN.com. "But something I find particularly concerning is that he tested positive on Jan. 9th and then he tested negative on Jan. 19th. If he took this orally, it only stays in your system 5-to-7 days.

"So, obviously, he used it sometime around Jan. 9th and then he used it shortly before the night of the fight. Whether the commission finds this egregious -- that he tested positive twice out of three times -- is up to them. I certainly find it concerning and unacceptable. It gives an unfair advantage to the person on that. God forbid, a serious injury were to occur to an opponent when someone is on something."

Silva, widely considered the greatest fighter of all time, has denied knowingly taking any banned substance.

"I have not taken any performance-enhancing drugs," Silva said shortly after the initial failed test. "My stance on drugs is and will always be the same. I'm an advocate for a clean sport."

The NSAC temporarily suspended Silva on Tuesday. A disciplinary hearing, which Silva would be required to attend, likely will be scheduled in March.

Diaz (26-10) also failed his fight-night drug test for marijuana metabolites. He tested negative for all other banned substances.

The NSAC will determine whether to change the result of the fight to a no-contest at a later date, most likely during Silva's disciplinary hearing.

Silva's fight-night sample, collected on Jan. 31, arrived at the processing lab in Salt Lake City on Feb. 2, according to lab reports relayed by Bennett. The lab reported the results to the NSAC on Feb. 10.

Bennett said results were not immediately circulated to the media as a courtesy to the licensed athlete, Silva. According to Bennett, Silva's representatives had inquired on the possibility of testing the "B" sample of his first failed test but have so far not submitted an official request to do so.

Looks like Anderson was for sure on some stuff

Chuck Liddell was on FOX News and got caught off guard with the PED questions
laugh.gif

How you gonna have him represent your company and look so dumb

Chuck on fox news? That's weird to me. He's republican?
Definitely random, maybe something to do with their FOX deal? Who knows

Listening to the MMA Hour with Ariel, Faber said he almost dies making 135 and walks around at 158. Frankie says he walks around the same weight (155ish) so this should be a fairly even match in terms of size. Faber said he's not done at 135 however though

Ariel stays hating on the Philippines

keeps asking why they placed the fight there
laugh.gif

Frankie is so classy, Jesus. Gave props to Conor and isn't mad that he got the title shot

Looks like both Faber and Frankie turned down TJ. Frankie was asked before the McGregor/Siver fight so it's understandable

Any of those news stations don't play (CNN or FOX News etc), he should have known better. It was like he never read up on testing procedures in his life

Khabib has a plan for 2015, look out Showtime
I'd be more surprised if Pettis failed to finish RDA. Giving dos Anjos a minuscule chance in Dallas. His stand-up albeit improved, won't be able to match Pettis on his feet. RDA's only been finished twice in his career and a KO feels more likely for Showtime in Round 2.

I understand the excitement for Barboza vs. Johnson, the former has rebounded well from the Cowboy submission loss (Dunham and Green victories). Everyone is hoping for a TKO head kick theatrically, but Johnson is far more vulnerable on the ground with his poor submission defense.

To reiterate, the bout I'm personally looking forward to most is Khabilov vs. Martins.

Rory vs Lawler for the belt set for UFC 189 as the co-main. Aldo vs McGregor will main event the card.

Guess that shows Dana's statement about Rousey always being the co-main on cards because the heavier weight always is the main event when a card has two title fights.

Delete that gif man.

That statement was such BS. It was to protect Ronda from having horrible PPV numbers

Probably late, but just saw that UFC is overhauling their drug policy. Now all fighters are subject to out of competition testing year round. And they're pushing for a 2 year ban for 1st timers who fail.

When Ben Askren said UFC should do this a few years ago, they said they couldn't do it because they had too many fighters that lived all over the world. Then just last month, they dropped their plans for out of competition testing because of the Cung Le fiasco and they said they had no business doing drug testing. Maybe I'm a cynic, but I don't trust UFC's testing at all. If they lined up a Jones v Cain or Weidman super fight and Jones tested positive for coke again, no way I see them pulling him from a fight or even telling anyone about the positive test.

I'm seriously contemplating surprising my brother with a Vegas trip as his graduation present. He enjoys training more than actually watching MMA fights, but finds Conor very entertaining and is actively rooting for the Aldo upset.

Is anyone actually going to buy 184? I may not even venture to B-Dubs or Miller's.

I see the angle UFC is hyping, but don't see Zingano TKO'ing Ronda. Holm is going to TKO Pennington. Ellenberger and Koscheck is a matchup of two over the hill fighters, who were once respected if not feared. Both in dire need of a win, but should really retire instead. Ellenberger has done some commentary work on FS1, if money is a concern.

Ferguson was supposed to fight Medeiros, which interested me more than Tibau. Honestly I'm anticipating the prelims more, seeing if Munoz can rebound from the Machida and Mousasi losses. In devastating fashion. Even though Krause lost to Masvidal and Green, I enjoy watching his jiu-jitsu.
