Machida must be dying to get in the ring with Weidman and try to avenge his best friends loss.

It's not an easy road in any division but I would favor Weidman in any of those matchups. Vitor is the most difficult challenge for Weidman in my opinion. I don't foresee any favorable matchups for any of the middleweights in a bout against Weidman. I believe he will be champ come 2015.

Eh, Vitor's aggressiveness is obviously a danger to anyone who faces him but stylistically I think the match would still be in Weidmans favor. Vitor's takedown defense is good, but he's not stuffing Weidman. Nobody is.


Except......Maybe Machida.......with some success.


Thing is with Vitor the longer the fight goes the harder it'll be for him to end it. He has endurance issues and I just see Weidman grinding it out if Belfort can't finish it in the first couple of rounds.


With Mousasi I also question his ability to withstand Weidman's grinding ground ability over the course of a 5 round fight. Again unless he catches Weidman early I just don't see him beating Weidman.


The guy who will beat Weidman is the guy who can keep the fight standing long enough to strike. Machida's 79% takedown defense percentage tells me he's the best candidate to do that. Not only that, it's very difficult to prepare for Machida's brand of striking. While Mousasi and Belfort are both world-class strikers and arguably more potent strikers than the Dragon I think stylistically Machida is Weidman's toughest potential opponent.
 
We got robbed of Mousasi vs. Gus. I can't judge his fight with Machida as well. Or with Weidman potentially.
 
Jacare vs Weidman is intriguing but I can't help but think of how Weidman stuffed Maia time and again. Obviously Jacare being a Judoka as well as possessing better wrestling than Maia means he'd fair a bit better but I really feel that if Weidman wants to keep this fight standing that's where it'll remain.


If that's the case I like Weidman in a stand-up battle vs Jacare. If Jacare does get the fight to the ground then obviously he can definitely sub Weidman. Big IF.


So yeah, Machida gets my vote for most likely to dethrone Weidman.

In other news, surgeon says anderson silva can train again after 6-9months. Maybe in a year he can fight again? Although as a fan I am having mixed feelings about him fighting again.

This post is a little late but I'll say it anyway. Weidman doesn't get the respect he deserves maybe because he has not participated in a fight which can equal, for example, jones vs gus. A fight that can show his talent, heart, and him being pushed to the limits. Maybe the fight with those 3 brazilians who are next in line can give those anti-weidman the reason to respect him as champion. Give it time, cause it looks like weidman will be here for a long time anyway. And you can't force someone to respect a person.
 
I hope Wiedman can start a nice run... I wish Silva didn't go out like that but it happens and Weidman was definitely checking those kicks at the very least trying to discourage Silva from throwing them the way he does.

Belfort can be a scary dude though. Not sure how itll turn out but pulling for CW.
 
I don't think Weidman is unbeatable by any means or that he is even the next great champion, however I regard his composure very very highly. For that reason I don't know if Machida's unpredictability will necessarily be a huge advantage for him against Weidman should they match up.

Weidman has learned so much from even the 2 or 3 total rounds he had with Silva, that experience only enhances his already exceptional composure. I don't think he'll be phased that much with the Machida style. Weidman has imposed his will on every opponent he's faced and he's outstruck every opponent he's ever faced.

Machida's take down defense though is something to consider. That is a part of the fight that nobody can really predict. Moving down will also probably bolster his take down defense, even against a big middleweight in Weidman.

I just look at Vitor's swagger right now and the way he's finished his opponents, he seems possessed. He's also a big middleweight so Weidman perhaps will have a bigger challenge in overpowering him and keeping him on his back. I just know you're going to get a balls out effort from Vitor, he's going to leave it all in the cage. With Machida I can't honestly say that. It's not necessarily a bad thing for Machida, that is just how he fights.
 
Belfort can beat weidman. Weidman is not unbeatable despite his victory over anderson. Nobody is unbeatable in the octagon, weidman himself proved that against anderson. However it depends on which belfort will appear in the match. Belfort the savage, now that is a fight.
 
And for those that question Weidman's championship experience. In 11 fights, he's beaten Anderson twice, Maia, Hall, and Munoz. That's quite the resume to start a career.
 
Also dominated sakara to make his UFC debut on two weeks notice with a rib injury. I've seen every Weidman fight in the UFC and he's had his way with every single one of them. Really impressive even if he loses to vitor

Jacare is a lot more dynamic than Maia. Plus he's a bigger, stronger fighter No way could he slide to 170 like Damien.

Stylistically it's similar but Maia was never been a threat on the feet. Jacare throws bombs so Weidman would have to be on his game.

Rockhold set the blueprint by fighting him long and i imagine Chris has similar a reach. He'd have to work on his kicking though cause i don't think he's as nice with his legs as Rockhold is.

Machida def has all the tools to knock him off imo. Only thing in question is his durability and his tendancy to let the fight go by and get out worked.
 
If them two guys ever fight it's gonna be 95% female viewership...

with 100% pantie merkage.

A few things, I really hate that Edgar is going to waste a fight on Penn. There is absolutely zero reason for that fight to happen at this point. None. If Edgar wins, it proves nothing and shouldn't move him up the rankings. If he loses, well, that would look pretty bad. Also, I'd sneak Dennis Siver in there, most likely over Lil Heathen.
