The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Yeah definitely a horrible matchup style wise. I guess just seeing what Lyoto did vs Weidman, and also in the first two rounds of Silva Weidman 1 Anderson escaped submissions and looked like he was baiting Weidman into standing with him, I feel like the guy could've represented himself so much better than he did if he would've just focused. But whatever, that's over and done with.

And plus, the way that Rockhold dominated Machida, I'm also convinced there's a new generation of middleweights now. At 38 years old Anderson was definitely taking the L at some point, just a matter of time.

The UFC basically forced Anderson though. He said a bunch of times that he didn't want the fight, Weidman was the new champ, but Dana and them saw the money in it and pressed the issue. I'm actually still annoyed he got that rematch, and I kinda wonder how different things would've been if he got a tune up vs bisping or somebody like that instead.

But hopefully there's no rematch issues with Aldo McGregor because Aldo beats the brakes off that dude . We'll have to see though.

Brah, Anderson is a grown man that made his own decision, plus he was talking a ton of that "I back" steez after a while.

Plus we're talking about the same dude that pissed so hot, Tyrion Lannister could have used it to defend King's Landing, yet swears he never took any roids.

Anderson's word means very little to me right now

Unless Aldo gets completely blitz and outclassed, dude should get a instant rematch if he loses.

But all this talk won't matter. Aldo gonna steamroll that lame. And then we get to hear the "Frankie got it this time BS" :rolleyes for a rematch with Aldo

"Yeah guys, uhhhh, my fans and the we FC, and my fans in the worlt and in da united states.. I go back to fight Weidman, and Anderson Silva. I back, trust me, I back"

But Conor gonna put up a good fight

You don't like Edgar but besides him and mendes I don't see anyone else having a better chance to beat aldo. I'd like to see Frankie stay at 155 and fight some of the new guys.

Frankie got his because he cried a ton about having to give BJ and Gray rematches

And the extremely close argument went out the door the second the UFC gave Anderson a rematch and no one said a peep

 at "cried a ton".

No one was talking about Anderson. I was addressing the Edgar rematches. All happened after extremely close fights.

Anderson shouldn't have gotten a rematch and neither should Aldo or Conor if the other wins definitively. Only a moron would think otherwise.

If Aldo beats Conor, I kind of want him to go to 155 already and have Edgar and Mendes fight for the vacant belt.

If Conor wins, I know I want to see him finally fight a strong wrestler. Edgar would qualify.

Good write up on Edgar and last nights fight.....

Brah you can laugh but that is exactly what Frankie did. He was on some I gave other people rematches I should get one steez.

Frankie had to give rematches to BJ and Gray because those decisions where controversial. Frankie dropped two fights against Bendo clearly. And still thought he the judges should reward his activity. Then he got fast tracked when he moved down. The UFC has done dude enough favors.

He needs to go fight Mendes and shut the hell up.

And miss me with your subliminal insults . You say doing that lame ****

You always hating on Edgar though. The second fight with maynard wasn't controversial, a tie is a tie. I even scored it a draw right as the fight ended. Plus many thought he won one of the fights with henderson, I think it was the second one.

I think it's tricky to look back at precedent because of the specific circumstances which surrounded each immediate rematch. I don't subscribe to the logic "well Dana did this for this fighter, so he should do this for this other fighter."

In this case, Frankie has gone out and beat some legit competition. It's one thing to give McGregor the shot (which was already sort of a reach) but to make Frankie then wait again would be unfortunate

I would hope they would give Frankie the next shot regardless. Like I mentioned before, we are now on McGregor/Aldo overload. Another rematch and the hype would just be flat, IMO. The coverage is already excessive, having to promote another rematch would be

In general immediate rematches suck

Title rematches are like when people are given title shots. Depends on what the people in charge feel like.

"Jon's been around the gym a little bit, which is good," Condit said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "I like to see him down there. It's a crazy situation that he's going to have to deal with. I think having him in gym doing what he does best, training and trying to keep that side of his life going, is a good thing. Talked to him briefly, but not about incident but about situation. He said, I'll be back, I'm going to be back. I believe him, there's no doubt. I think there's a good chance. In his mind he's fighting again."

Don't worry brah. I dunno why we even talking about rematches

Aldo will wash that lame

Frankie will get to run around Aldo for 5 rounds and drop a decision

Mendes will steamroll Connor

And all will be right in the world

I think we're talking about them because you brought them up by saying Aldo should get one if he loses

Jack Slack is easily my favorite combat sports writer.

Vincent Van Goat Vincent Van Goat kicked off the discussion by talking about possible matches based on the out come of the Jose v. Aldo fight. He mentioned a rematch first, if Conor wins. And I merely continue a long that point

And you felt the need to add to it in the in the very next comment.

How about you go back and look a couple post up pa

If Aldo loses, he's gonna get a rematch. If Rousey loses she'd get a rematch. Any long term champion, except for maybe Mighty Mouse cause ppl think he's boring, would get an immediate rematch if they choose. Its UFC's small way of showing their version of respect for long term champions and mainly because they wanna capitalize on the increase in ppv buys rematches normally bring in.

Still ridiculous to say "I dunno why we even talking about rematches".....when you're talking about rematches.

Regardless of whether or not you brought it up. And especially since you have such a firm handle on how everything will unfold.

Is that better son?

To me, HOW the champ loses determines whether or not he should get a rematch (that goes for Cain, Aldo, Weidman etc.). If one of them loses decisively, including Aldo, there shouldn't be a rematch. The next contenders are already there (well, maybe not at HW so much).

Not to say there won't be. Because that may very well be where all the money is when the fight is over.

I want to see Conor's wrestling tested already. So not interested in an immediate Aldo rematch either way if Aldo loses unless it's a very close fight.

Also wouldn't be surprised if Conor got a rematch if it's a very close fight.

As for Edgar, this was my favorite line from the article I posted. Pretty much applies to every Edgar fight in my opinion.

"No, if you watched this fight and couldn't learn anything, or admire the craft of Edgar, you've really missed out. Last night, Frankie Edgar was a textbook of striking."

Kind of torn over the main event this weekend. Fan of both guys. Probably a bit more of a Rumble fan. Hope we see a great fight regardless of who wins.

To me personally, I hate immediate rematches. I don't care how long you been champ. If the fight was controversial, OK, sure, rematch. Any other result and if you lost, you lost.

The thrill of the fight game to me is how fragile retaining that title is. That's what's so intriguing about title fights. If I knew every long title holder would get an automatic rematch if he lost in the title fight the luster would fade rather quickly

Immediate rematches are stupid because if the former champ happens to win the 2nd fight then what? Rubber match.

I would much rather see the new champ and former champ fight someone new, instead of seeing 2 guys go at it for 1.5 years

Good point. Mucks up divisions

I hate trilogies tbh

^^Agreed on the trilogy front. Really hope they make Hendricks fight at least one other opponent if Lawler gets by Rory again. They did JDS-Cain III waaay too soon though that really is based on the lack of depth at HW.  Speaking of the HW division, if Andrei wins in impressive fashion (ie KO) does he get next shot? They could target that for the New Years card (wishful thinking I know but one can dream). They could then give Stipe loser of Cain/Werdum.

And is it just me or did they really do a poor job of hyping 187? Even with injuries and Jones' situation it's still got potential for one of years best cards.
