The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

i'm tossing some money on punk just for the odds and return

he may have never fought before but there's something about the bright lights and gall has everything to lose. ppl expecting him to run thru cm punk

would not be surprised to see the lights go out in the arena and the deadman enters the cage from the bottom to deliver chokeslams to gall and punk.
sets up ufc 207...taker/punk/gall. that's that money fight right there. vince X dana get to it!

Seems like theres no push behind champs in the UFC these days. Stipe, Bisping, Alvarez, DC kinda all flying under the radar.

Mighty Mouse at least got TUF show.

Only 4 of the 10 champs have defended their titles and the UFC doesn't market any of the champs that have defended anyway.

Only one of those guys has even defended his belt.

Maybe they're not sure they want to push a champ that might not be a champ for long.

I have a hard time believing Dana White would let CM Punk fight if he was a complete scrub. Sure, the episodes have him looking ridiculously amateur in the first episodes, but I'm just not gonna believe the UFC is letting him get in there to be led to slaughter. They obviously have money behind this. He's at Roufosport.

I really think they found an okay, somewhat marketable kid in Gall and they're hedging the bet. Maybe Punk loses, but he puts up a hell of a fight. Hopefully, he wins.

But they don't lose by letting Mickey Gall take an L to Phil Brooks. If you get 3 CM Punk fights out of his career, 2-1 or even 1-2, it'll make a ton of money.

If the odds are still +300, +400 going into it, I'm gonna lay a little on Punk.

UFC hasn't really been pushing many folks in general. Their strategy has been weird to say the least, for years

THIS

UFC is a fighting promotion company yet they blame the fighter for not being marketable.

a lot of these fighters are just "boring" and the ufc can only do so much
they train and fight, but really don't draw in an audience. that's why we get a lot of that wwe nonsense in the sport with the back and forth of words. if i hear rockhold on the mic again :x

gall is a kid. dana knew what he was doing in picking him. they even marketed him to be "young talent" when we really can't tell with his limited background as well. follow him around, make a video of his workout and ppl gonna think punk will get slaughtered. punk will likely come in a lot bigger than him as far as weight but who knows if that is even going to be an adv

It's almost like music now where you have to get hot on your own for them to invest in you.

And few people get/stay hot on their own long enough to warrant that investment.

This is true

CM Punk, Sage, Paige, Conor, Ronda

I would say those have been the recent fighters Dana has really gotten behind

Fighters they should get behind, regardless of their speaking skills:

Holloway, Garbrandt, Khabib, Wonderboy... at the very least. They could easily make angles on each of these fighters

Looks like we have at least 6 straight weeks of UFC

The cards aren't all that great though outside of the main events. Think they're spreading it thin again

waiting for the day that these guys have "managers" that will speak for them. wonderboy is just too nice and will never say a bad thing about his opponents. khabib should just do the whole anti-american/pro russia shtick. i think cody has been trying his hardest to play that cool/tough guy but he's like 120lbs, aint nobody taking these little guys seriously.

It's called variety. Not everyone can be Conor or Nate

Having a goodie good like Wonderboy is an angle they can easily build up. Just like Holly

Cody is 120 lbs? What are you saying G

people can easily care. Dude has that "look" with the tatts and his power is stupid. They can make little boxers draws, the same can be for MMA fighters. Especially entertaining ones like Cody. Not sure what you're talking about like Cody is a ****** or something. He's no DJ

I agree that some fighters are just plain, but the UFC really has to promote them better. UFC should make some change regarding that aspect.

Aldo-Mcgregor, Lawler-Hendricks 1, Diaz-Mcgregor, just some of the events I remember where the UFC promoted well. For me at least. And that's regardless of Mcgregor's antics.

I ******* on the UFC marketing for awhile now but I gotta admit, it's not like boxing where you have 100 different belts at each class and a fair amount of journeyman so you can manufacture a champ if need be.

I wonder how you market a guy/girl with no real personality outside of saying so and so is the baddest mfer in the world at whatever weight class. Prospects you can push as the next best thing, champs you can push as the best current thing, but then what about dudes with losses that are still high level contenders but not exactly camera ready or great on the mic. MMA has a ton of those guys. I wonder if there's a way to make the average fan give a **** about those guys, and if the cost benefit analysis for promoting them even makes sense

Maybe that's where individual managers and promotion teams need to come in

Cyborg saying that her days of being able to cut to 140 are nearly finished. Meathead broad needs to lay off the PEDs and she won't have any issues. Unless her extensive PED abuse has permanently changed her body and hormones thee is no reason she can't lose a bit of muscle and compete at a lighter weight.

It's gonna be real interesting to see what Dana does with the next HW title fight

You have Cain who beat the brakes off Browne

Most likely you'll have Werdum beat the brakes off Browne

How are they honestly going to pick Cain or Werdum to get the next shot?
