The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

In other news for an equally irrelevant MMA Legend, Fedor upset the Chechen president and his people for condemning the event he promoted this week that feature three of his sons that are all under 11. The president's right hand man basically said Fedor is a dead man walking and a petition was started to get the Kremlin to protect Fedor in light of the threat. Krylov voiced his support for Fedor.

Anybody interested should check out the pieces Karim Zidan wrote for Bloody Elbow. His other work on Russian MMA and the Caucuses are all worth reading as well.

Carwin was asking reddit if he should fight Fedor or sign with Bellator or rizin

Anderson still poppin.....

but his chin aint

andersone run as champ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything I have seen in MMA so far

Mighty mouse is making noise, but hes a ****** fighting midgets, it will never be the same no matter how many times he defends his belt....mad respect to him and his craft tho

pissing hot or not, half the doods anderson was fighting was juicing too anyways, just a different era....

Im not sure USADA coming in and "legitimizing" the spot has been a positive thing, i mean before USADA....no one really cared who was juicing or not, as they shouldnt....it doesnt really matter to me anyways.....i just want to see a good show.

Im looking for a big performance by gegard tomorrow, hopefully he gets an impressive W and 1 step closer to a TS

Jones run>>>andys run

Come at me bro

All this Spider hate :smh:

I think Weidman just happened to be his kryptonite. After that his next 2 losses were questionable at best. He lost the shaky decision to Bisping and then he stepped up on 14 hours notice to face that bum DC who just laid on top of him.

I think he's owed one more high profile match before writing him and his chin off.

Yeah Anderson is still in the GOAT discussion with Fedor and GSP (and maybe Bones if he can stop ******* up long enough to beat Rumble, or Cormier again).

Weidman was a horrible matchup on paper for him, and he was old as **** when they fought. And all the fights after that are just an older guy on the downside of his career who's a little more gun shy and less aggressive because of his eroded chin and that horrible leg break he had.

And I don't really subscribe to the "he's been on roids all along" theory but like soriano was saying, he was literally beating dudes that were juiced out of their minds (I think Chael had like a 16:1 T:E ratio when they fought), allowed to legally juice (Hendo) or at the very least not tested extensively either, so yeah, it was just a different era and I don't hold it against him.

anderson will always be in the goat discussion and nothing will ever change that

weidman isnt a terrible matchup for him, i keep using this word "understandable" but thats what his losses actually were

we know he ****** up in the first fight and the 2nd was a freak accident

as for the downside of his career, he could still take the 4 guys competing tonight, id love to have that kind of downside in mma

I don't see how anyone would've expected Anderson to win against DC. He was coming off a surgery, hadn't trained for months and was going against a bigger opponent who happened to be an Olympic wrestler.

Let's be real he wasn't good at defending take downs, etc. His BJJ is legit and his counter striking was legendary. Weidman was the MMA matchup gods catching up to him. But he wasn't the type to press the pace of a fight.

He still managed to notch up a great championship run. I just don't think he'd succeed in today's MW division title chase with Romero, Weidman, Jacare, Rockhold but he's easily a viable top 10 fighter at his old age.

JBJ is the greatest of all time though. Despite his dumb self tarnishing his legacy.

I feel two things happened

1) Weidman was a legit match for Silva but I cant help but feel that Silva was already bored with the sport. He was on top for a while and hadn't had a tough fight in a while. The first Sonnen fight was his last competitive fight and that was in 2011. When a tough matchup came in I don't think he was ready for that (No excuse should be ready to fight at all times). I feel that if Weidman came in and fought Silva earlier in his career, Silva would have beat him.

2) Jon Jones came in during a huge transition period for LHW. A lot of the guys were older and on the decline of their careers when Jones came in. I do not consider him to be the best of all time. Shogun and Rampage were done. Machida was a legit win. Rashad Evans was a good win but he should honestly have been a middleweight. Then you have wins over Sonnen and Belfort (Middleweights). Gus gave him a run for his money, texeria has done nothing, Cormier his best win by far. OSP athletically gifted but not a complete fighter.

I will say Jon Jones is probably the most talented fighter to come onto the scene and should be the goat, I just don't think his resume stands out and says goat that's all. Maybe if he was picking up wins instead of getting suspended it would.

Jon Jones is the greatest fighter who's ever lived. He outstrikes strikers, he taps out black belts, he outgrinds wrestlers. He systematically breaks down his opponents one and time again.

They ever officially clear him for peeing hot? I saw talk and heard Dana speak on it but never anything official

Who do you consider the best fighter of all time then if not Jones?

All these excuses for Silva  my favorite is that he dances around too much. When he wins a fight doing that (see Forrest Griffin fight), people worship him. When he loses a fight doing that (see Weidman fight), it's a fluke.

Silva pisses hot and y'all cheer him at 200. Jon Jones pisses hot and y'all say he should be cut.

Jon Jones is the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be :pimp:

And Jon Jones pretty much cleared out the division of worthy contenders (aside from rumble) so I don't know where this "if he was picking up wins" argument comes from.

This.

Yall giving weidman too much credit, anderson was already on his way out....it was a change of the guard, chris was the young lion....no one can be on top forever.

I remember after Anderson lost, in one of the post fight interviews he said something to the effect like "chris won, fair and square...he's the new champion now, its his turn, i don't want a rematch" seemed like anderson was checked out at that point, im sure the UFC pushed him for the rematch and to continue to sell tickets....gotta be a company man.

same thing happened with Aldo vs Mcgregor, classic changing of the guard old vs young lion (granted they almost the same age, but aldo got waaay more miles than conor bless)

I feel for aldo man, he wants to prove hes still the alpha...but the UFC aint having it

I think thats the fight I want to see most right now

Aldo x Mcgregor II

Fedor, GSP, Silva

Ill give you that but do you really feel his run is the most impressive ever? I'm talking resume and not as a fighter. As a pure talented fighter absolutely Jon Jones has it all and is most likely the most talented fighter ever. I just feel that another win over DC and a fight with Rumble could get him there.

He is perceived to many to be the a talented fighter who wasted his prime.

I know my thoughts and opinions wont change yours but I'm just here for the sake of debate.

Jones beat and finished a line of dudes who were just leaving their primes if not in their primes

His run is the most impressive to me out of any of the other fighters you listed

However I don't think it's wrong to not think jones is the goat

He might have wasted his "prime" but what he's accomplished to date is already a case to be the goat IMO

People boo Jones bc he is a repeat offender when it comes to messing up dude can't stay out of his own way.

So was DC washed when JBJ fought him? Glover? Gustafson (albeit that was his worst fight)? Machida? Bader? OSP?

If the idiot hadn't gotten in trouble the last two years, we would've gotten the second DC and the first Rumble fight. There's literally no one left for him to fight in LHW. I wouldn't even be mad if he cut everyone at HW for a title fight. I don't think the prospect of a lengthy title run is there with the amount of power flying.

Honestly, JBJ and GSP are the greatest fighters in the UFC. Silva is right below them. Fedor did his thing in Pride.
