I like the defenses argument for the ATG conversation. Conor hasn't consecutively defended his title for years against top contender after top contender who all had a range of styles like Bones, Silva, GSP and Fedor did so he's not even close to cracking that top 4 at this point, and he never will without those defenses. I don't care if he beats Woodley or Khabib either, it takes time and seeing how they deal with all kinds of different opponents and style to start calling them greats. How he deals with different opponents who might be a little taller, or with chins that can handle his power, or that hit hard enough to KO him too, or are supreme grapplers, or slicker boxers, that's when we'll see how great he really is.

To me, right now Conor is more in the category of just being a supreme talent, kinda like BJ Penn or Vitor, he's a phenom. Just like BJ and Vitor, Conor is basically a hall of famer pretty early in his UFC career just off his resume and the way he's taking people out. His potential based on his talent is crazy, just like BJ and Vitor. The difference between him and them though seems to be that he's not lazy and he's mentally strong too, so he has a good chance of reaching his full potential in the sport.

As far as P4P, I look at it more like who would win on any given night vs any fighter with heights/weights being even. In that case, he's definitely in the convo. I'd put Bones Cruz, DJ and Cormier in that convo too, and I'd say Conor is near the bottom of that list honestly, but he's in there. Nate Diaz whipping his *** on 10 days notice hurts his stock, nobody else in that P4P list has had a moment like that, so it's kinda crazy to think Conor would be #1 compared to those guys.

If Conor beat khabib Ferguson Diaz and woodley (taking his belt) without losing in between I'd put him right up there as goat

That would be three defenses and a third belt ...

This might sound like hate, but if he doesn't implement a strictly wrestling gameplan, Woodley is almost tailor made for a guy like Conor. I mean he's a champ but he has glaring holes. His boxing consists of standing around with no head movement right at the end of his opponents punching range and then lunging in with hooks, and oftentimes doing that while he's backed against the cage. He's also shorter than McGregor with a shorter reach, which makes him even more ripe for the picking. Woodley could easily KO Conor if he catches him at any point in the fight, but he could also get battered and KO'ed doing his usual back against the cage act

Having said that, those four in a row would be impressive, I still don't know if I'd have him top 3 but it would be impressive.

If everyone was the same size, jones and demetrius would take him down and keep him there.

Agreed. Cormier too probably. If he took that shot he took from Rumble and kept it moving, I don't think his chin would be a problem vs. anybody his size. And Cruz is a defensive savant so that's a tough one for him as well.

Bingo. And this is the very definition of P4P that a lot of people stray away from. P4P and best fighter are two different things to me.

Just like MVP vs best player

Lawler and Thompson couldn't best woodley so it is what it is. You would have thought woodley was tailor made for a precise counter striker with good take down defense in Thompson but he couldn't even hurt woodley once

If Conor beat all 4 of those guys and you still struggle to say he's top 3 I do find that unfair. But it's tough to really rank all time fighters anyway so it's no big deal

You know if he wanted to, Cormier could probably pull off the two weight class champ thing too. The way he ragdolled Barnett, controlled Mir, ran through Bigfoot, I think he could possibly give Stipe a go. I'd still rather see Rumble win though.

And I'm guessing the winner just sits until Bones is off suspension. Light Heavyweight looking worse than heayweight nowadays

If dc beats johnson again, he should do it.

I get the feeling he's going to leave HW alone until Cain has his run since they seem pretty close.

And he seems to really want that 2nd Jones fight.

I see Conor clapping back at Floyd saying Floyd is sacred to face him in a real fight

This gonna get the mma vs boxing thing going real good

Nick, you at Conor's party though. Think about that

I would be hella surprised if khabib get the next title shot against Conor.

Mcgregor's coach has already been saying that Nate Diaz is a more worthy contender than khabib lol

Next fight is gonna be mcgregor Diaz 3

Kinda hoping it happens and that Conor washes him. I can't imagine what this thread would be like
