The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Not to beat a dead horse, but I will anyway. I wasn't saying Frankie deserved a shot right now either. I'm saying Cub and Frankie should fight for that shot.

This all really started because Frankie is "ranked" above Cub. Frankie is easily the more accomplished fighter and has been for quite some time.

I don't know how you could be upset over him being ranked over a guy with Cub's resume. And I'm a big Cub fan. I almost bought that dude's ******* T Shirt for the gym. But come on....

Fact is, TUF really ****** this all up. BJ had no business fighting. Cub and Frankie should have fought instead of this season of TUF, which was boring as **** and we'd have a true #1 contender.

Crazy thing is, if BJ had won that fight, there was a good chance he'd be the one fighting Aldo next. Because I know the UFC wants some new blood in there.

Like you said, Conor about to be the next dude on a "streak" being pre-mauturely discussed for a title shot too. Clear as day.

******* AMPED for the card this weekend. Have a bottle of Glenlivet 18 that should be at my office on Friday that is going to get that WORK starting at 6pm on Saturday.
Nobody's upset at all though about the rankings and you've been ******** on Cub's streak from the get go. I love Frankie, I've said as such that I have him as my #4 in the division. You boast about his accomplishments like he's a legend though, in excess.

There are just as many if not more knowledgeable publications out there who rank Cub ahead of Frankie than the other way around. So when you were acting so surprised that "I was the first person to question the rankings", I guess you hadn't really been paying close enough attention.

My apologies to you if I mistakenly interpreted this as you being upset....

Btw, how the hell the UFC gonna rank Frankie above Cub? If they fight then it makes no difference, but there's no way in hell Cub isn't the #1 contender after Mendes.

No, I don't pay attention to "publications". I have a brain of my own thank you.

All I said was yours was the first complaint on Frankie being ranked over Cub I've heard. And it is.

Again, never said legend. You're seeing things. Just said more he's accomplished than Cub TODAY. True or false?

You keep using the term "********" on Cub's "streak". Not ******** on it at all. I'm looking at it for what it is. Good, but not GREAT.

Who have Stephens or Siver EVER beaten that's a legit contender or championship caliber fighter? If there are any, they are few and far between and none are recent.

So I should be impressed by those wins? You still seem to be more focused on the streak than the quality of the opponents.

That's exactly the problem. It's happening with Cerrone. Happening with Conor. And I'm not buying it.

I've seen it on TONS of fighters who then don't deliver on the big stage. Koch, Grispi, Hioki at FW alone.

I respect what Travis Browne did. Dude fought Overeem, Barnett, Gonzaga AND Werdum and never got a title shot.

I'm a fight fan. But I understand the business of the UFC. They want new blood in against their champs. Can't risk it being Aldo/Mendes/Edgar over and over again.

I want Cub to fight someone who's a Top 5 FW today. And a fight with Frankie would be phenomenal.

We, as fight fans, should all want that. Sadly, TUF is the reason that happened, which sucks, but it's business.

But arguing with someone about "rankings" is just as ridiculous as complaining about "rankings", which are pretty arbitrary anyway.

So that will be the last of this subject for me.

To your point, I have a brain of my own too, that's why I was voicing my opinion. When you say "that's the first time I've heard a complaint", you're assuming everyone just agrees with the same notion, which obviously wasn't the case.

To your point on Cub's streak, Frankie's best streak doesn't really blow Cub's out of the water.

I agree that rankings are all subjective, but when it comes down to who is next in line after Mendes, IMO that is Cub if I have to choose. Obviously a fight between he and Frankie would be ideal though. That's why I brought rankings up in the first place.

Dude, you're still harping on "streaks". It's like the UFC has brainwashed you.

I don't care about Frankie's best "streak" of wins vs. Cub's best "streak".

Frankie fought Hermes Franca, Sean Sherk (when those guys were still tough as hell), Matt Veach (who cares), BJ Penn, BJ Penn, Gray, Gray (undefeated at the time after beating Nate, Kenflo etc), Bendo, Bendo, Aldo in a row at one point.

How is that **** even comparable to Cub's resume? It's not. Win or lose, that list is nuts. And they were all tough fights.

Unfortunately, he got stuck in a ****** fight with BJ Penn in his last fight. So because of that, we all lose.

How about we just agree to disagree then and keep it moving?

you keep trying to find ways to make yourself look silly on this topic

I could say the same thing about your defense of Frankie's resume.

Yes, brainwashed. You use the term "streak" while ignoring the level of competition like a UFC commentator.

You thinking I look silly is almost a compliment. I prefer to think alike with great minds.

How was I "defending" Frankie's resume? I just laid it out. Feel free to let me know what you disagree with.

I guess you're going to tell me Jeremy Stephens and Denis Siver somehow outweigh the majority of the names on that list?

Or we could just agree to disagree then and keep it moving?

I'll drink to all of that seeing how you got some 18yr old single malt on deck :smokin

That Rumble tee is clean. I got the Blackzillian crew tee a while back. It's cool but the cut is tailored for jacked dudes which i am not |I

Jones vs DC is huge. If Cormier comes in healthy Jones is in for a long night.

Since you mentioned it.....if I don't get that Glenlivet 18 by Friday, I'ma go up the block and pick up a Lagavulin 16 they have at my local spot.

Either way we gon' be NICE this Saturday :smokin

I'll find a way to work the GGG/Geale fight in there too.

Stephens, Siver, and Diamond (hell even Pearson) are as tough as you are going to find in the entire organization, if that's brainwashed talk, then that's you being silly. I'm not so much downplaying Frankie's resume as I'm saying you look silly by trying to throw shade on Cub's.

I'm good to move on but quit with the brainwash talk

Tough? Yes.

Championship caliber? No.

And since we're talking about being #1 contender/fighting for the title, that's what you need to be.

9/10 names I listed that Frankie fought either held belts or fought for the title.

But "Stephens, Siver, and Diamond (hell even Pearson)" who combined have been in ZERO title fights, are comparable.

Those are comparable resumes to you.

And I'm "silly".

You got it son

Lagavulin... There's one word i never expected to read on NT. Never mind the MMA thread

When you fight in a loaded division, you're not going to be in many title fights, such is the case at FW (especially taking into account all the injuries). Back when Frankie was at LW, that division wasn't what it was now. LW became absurd around when the WEC was acquired.

Beating a washed Penn, Oliveria and losing to Bendo (twice) and Aldo isn't exactly championship caliber (his last impressive win was 3 years ago against Maynard). If you want to continue to point to his days at LW, cool. I think Frankie is as good as there is in the UFC but I also feel the same way about Cub and I think his streak puts him right above Frankie.

Again, yes you are silly for poking holes in Cub's streak/resume.

FW is "loaded"? OK.

That's why the FORMER LW champ can drop down and get an immediate shot. And Aldo is fighting the same guy he fought 3 fights ago

FW NOT being loaded is the only reason Cub is even in line for a shot.

Like I said, Travis Browne fought Gonzaga, Barnett, Werdum and Overeem and still never got a shot.

Edgar fought 2 former champs, fresh off title fights, before he got a title shot.

Losing to Bendo and Aldo in close fights after being a champion isn't "championship caliber".

Fighting 9 of your last 11 fights against guys who've held belts.

I have no choice but to point to his LW days. He's only had 3 fights at FW. This amazing streak of Swanson's that you love to harp on.....does it cover more than 3 fights? So what's the problem?

Compared to a guy who lost in 8 seconds to the one champion he's fought in his career. The same guy Frankie fought to a decision.

His very impressive "streak" against zero championship caliber or even Top 5 fighters.

You got it son

FW is exciting but i wouldn't say it was stacked yet. Having such a dominant champion doesn't help in that regard.

155 and 170 are stacked. There's 4 or 5 guys in each of those divisions who are championship caliber right now.

Seems like whenever Frankie is brought up, fights are going down in this thread...

Fell asleep on the couch 45 minutes ago, I wake up and Nick Diaz is an active UFC fighter again. :pimp:

Hell of a nap.

Sucks Alexander is out I really wanted to see that rematch. But super excited for the dc/jones fight.

FW is definitely loaded. A lot can change in a year and a half for a division. When Frankie dropped down to FW, the division was in dire need of a shot in the arm, no doubt about it. Fast forward today and I have LW and WW as the top divisions along with FW. All three are loaded IMO.

There is no "problem" with Frankie at all, other than I believe that Cub has done more to be ranked ahead of him. That was the original point. Frankie is my #4. My problem is that you keep inventing new ways to create side arguments that are completely irrelevant or fictional. For instance, you saying I'm brainwashed and now you're saying that I've claimed Cub's streak is "amazing" which I've never stated. That's the problem. Again, you make yourself look silly.

Cub may not have taken out a top 5 guy, but Dustin is #6 and climbing and is poised to get a title shot in the near future. Stephens and Siver were both recently top 10. Again, you're silly for throwing shade on Cub's streak. You've been doing this since the very first post on the discussion. You've done nothing but try to belittle
laugh.gif

In the end this streak you're not impressed with has Cub ranked higher than Frankie in many people's eyes, not just mine. I respect anyone's opinion, including yours, vouching for Frankie to be ranked higher than Cub. I honestly do.

The problem comes when you try to make Cub's streak look ho-hum. The problem comes when you try to ride a high horse saying things like "well, you're the first person I've heard make this argument," therefore it must not be valid, when plenty of other folks see it the same way. The problem comes when you then backpedal seeing how incorrect you were and say "oh, well, I have a brain of my own I don't need other opinions to validate mine" not recognizing that the previous line or argument you just attempted to use goes against the latter. I was using my own brain too when I said I have Cub ahead
