The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Because Anderson can't stop Nick from moving forward(no threat of take down) and Nick has the reach to strike with Anderson from the outside. Nick doesn't need to put Anderson against the cage to land because he knows how box  "at the end of his punches". I don't expect Anderson to be throwing heavy rear round houses either but who knows with that. With the way Anderson's chin has looked lately I wouldn't be surprised to see him hurt from some glancing blows. Plus it's a 5 round fight and that favors Nick who is a cardio machine. If Anderson was about 5 years younger things would be different because lets be real the anderson we've seen in the last 2 fights aint the same anderson silva we saw the last decade and Nick Diaz is a tough mofo who still in his prime.

Haven't even brought up the ground where Nick > Anderson

With all that said Anderson could come out and implement Condit's run and kick game plan for a snoozefest.
I agree with much of this but I also think you're taking away from Chris Weidman's outstanding performances against Anderson. He's just a really bad matchup for Anderson, so it's not really fair IMO to say "let's face it, the Anderson we've seen in the last 2 fights aint the same Anderson Silva we saw the last decade"... Anderson just can't account for Weidman's wrestling, strength and evolving boxing.

Nick doesn't have much power behind his punches, so Anderson would really have to be caught multiple times to have his chin tested. I don't see it tbh.

My bad. I aint trying to take anything away from the champ! He was kicking Andy's *** again before the leg snapped.

I was specifically referring to Silva's ability to absorb punches. Between Chael and Weidman he's been dropped more times in those fights than his entire career. Sad to see because Anderson's chin was one of the best in the sport(eating hendo's h-bomb
sick.gif
). Anderson is at that point in his career where the accumulation of a career's worth of punishment is starting to show and deteriorating his chin. Same way Chuck went out.

Damn, you actually bring up a good point with Chael too, he did catch him.

On a different note, I don't think the build up is going to be what we're used to. Diaz will have nothing but respect for Silva so I think it'll be pretty quiet from both sides IMO.

Edit: Now listening to the UFC 183 conference call...

Idk if Silva's chin was ever that great. If you catch him like Weidman or even Sonnen did he'll go down. Maybe not knocked out but he'll go down. What Silva does is he turns away from punches so he takes less of the force. His fight with Bonnar is a perfect example of this.

Machida says he wants to fight in October. He wants Rockhold but is leaving it up to ufc to choose his opponent. I actually like this fight. All Rockhold is doing now is talking about Belfort and TRT and how he wants a title shot. He should have to face someone ranked in the top 5. Getting knocked out by Vitor and then beating Botsch and Philippou doesn't warrant a title shot in my opinion.

Random, but has anyone ever noticed that whenever there's a UFC event; whether its a ppv, fight night, etc; Spike, FX, or USA almost always shows a Rock movie. Either Walking Tall, Fast Five, or The Rundown. 176 was supposed to be this weekend and of course two Rock movies are showing back to back.

I see Anderson's front kick being a lethal weapon against Nick's raised arm boxing. Don't have a call on that fight yet, but all I can think of is a repeat of that Vitor KO.

Sonnen's boy FrontRowBrian was talking about this same thing a few days ago. If this goes down, people are gonna have to start giving him credit. He broke the news on 176 getting cancelled, Alvarez possibly fighting at 178, and a few other stories. So I guess ufc is close to signing a deal with Reebok to make their official uniforms since he's been spot on with his sources in the past.

Uniforms would be really annoying to me, I pray that doesn't happen. So corny

Going back to UFC 178, if Cowboy/Alvarez gets added it's easily the greatest card in combat sports history

Uniforms is just another way for ufc to make money and to seem "legit" like other sports leagues since they all have uniform deals.

Nothing is announced or finalized yet except for Belfort v Weidman but 181 looks promising. Pettis v Melendez is scheduled for then too and if the Carano deal is finalized thats the proposed ppv for her fight with Rousey. So you'd have 3 title fights on 1 card.

I'd still easily take 178 over 181. Rousey vs. Carano is trash and a huge joke, that's not a title fight, just an exhibition. Weidman v Belfort is legit, will be interesting to see how Vitor reacts to not fighting in Brazil. Obviously Pettis and Gil is as legit as you can get.

178 though, got all the makings of UFC 100 on Vitor's best steroids

How can fighters represent their sponsors if they can't wear the gear or sport the logos on the walkout or in the cage??

What about dudes that come out in the Gi?

If i never saw GSP coming out to some french rap in the Gi and headband i probably don't become a fan of the sport

^
If fighters can't wear their sponsors' stuff then the ufc better act as their sponsors and pay them to wear the ufc logo. I think that's what they do with jones now or did before.

So alvarez's contract is up again? He's their champ so i'm guessing they'll do what they can to keep him there. Wish my dude Chandler didn't sign that new contract, would like to see him in the ufc too.

I think Alvarez has 1 more fight on his Bellator contract, which also has to be on PPV. But since Scott Coker is now running things at Bellator, maybe he let Eddie free from the contract.

The Alvarez/Chandler trilogy doesn't matter anymore.

Son needs to get to the UFC asap before he becomes a distant memory.

This is how I understood it too. The last Chandler fight was the 1st of a 2 fight deal.

Didn't Chandler and Brooks fight for the "interim" belt when Alvarez got injured?

Technically Eddie is still the Champ I believe. Odd that they'd just let him walk.

But I'd be pretty ******* happy if they did!

yeah Chandler and Brooks fought for the interim belt. I guess Coker is as cool as people say he is and decided that if Eddie didn't want to be in Bellator, they would let him walk..

And Rory McDonald vs Tarec Saffiedine was announced for UFC Fight Night Canada. This is going to be a sick fight. I hope the winner of this gets the next shot at the title. Excited to see Saffiedine fight again.

Alvarez has 1 more fight left on his contract. But Coker is open to letting him out of his contract. They don't want him to win his next fight with Brooks or Chandler and end up leaving anyway as champion. And by letting Eddie out of his contract, Coker and Bellator gain credit from their fighters and other fighters in other organizations. In the past Rebney and Bellator were accused of being slimy by using contract extensions, matching periods, and other tricks to keep fighters in Bellator. Coker and his regime are trying to fix everything that Rebney did in the past. With the billions of Viacom $ that Bellator had they couldn't attract free agents except for Rampage and Tito all because of the bad perception Rebney had.

In the past Dana's argument for uniforms was that lower and mid-tier fighters had a hard time getting sponsors and the uniforms would help them out. So basically UFC is gonna sign a 7-9 figure deal with someone, reportedly Reebok according to FRB, and then they'll end up giving fighters a few extra $$$. It'll help lower guys but it'll hurt fighters like Jones, Silva, GSP, etc. Even if fighters are allowed to have a small amount of sponsors on the uniform, like NFL practice jerseys, I'm sure Reebok isn't gonna allow a Nike, Under Armor, etc patch on their clothes. Right now Jones, Silva, JDS, GSP, & Lawler couldn't wear their Nike, UA, and Adidas gear to ring but they could at weigh ins. They wouldn't be able to with uniforms. Thats more money these guys are losing. Makes no sense for Nike, UA, etc to even sponsor them.

Eddie likes to brawl. It'll be fun to see him go toe to toe with the ufc guys. He does seem to get dropped frequently though.

Apparently Rumble stated in a recent interview that he'd fight Overeem at any weight :nerd:

And i'm pretty sure UFC brass doesn't want Rory any where near the strap.

He beats Maia and Woodley and now he has to fight a very dangerous but relative unknown in Saffiedine?? Bad fight to take and bad match up for Rory imo.

Rumble would KTFO Overeem. Overeem's chin is shot and Rumble is on another level right now. Might be the p4p most dangerous fighter right now in MMA.
