legitamate question because i've never bothered to look into it before, why does this seem like it's never even thought about for things like UFC and Boxing?

If Dana White and company thought they could sustain their revenue by moving away from the PPV model I'm sure they'd go for it. At this point the sport isn't at that level yet. I don't think you can compare basketball or American football to mixed martial arts.. mixed martial arts still suffers from a stigma

Once more and more kids start growing up in mixed martial arts, society will start to accept it as a part of culture like basketball and football. Around the world as well, if children are growing up in MMA that will obviously help

Dana has actually talked about leaving PPV one day

Right now I don't think they would make enough money. I think that's the most simple answer

Boxing, MMA-- combat sports IMO will never be a mainstream sport in terms of having it be as big as basketball or football, so the big ticket events will always remain a PPV so they can secure the most money possible

Who knows though, with the UFC getting the FOX deal and being sponsored now by Reebok, the groundwork is being laid for the sport to become more "legitimate"

Jones is probably a top 3 favorite fighter of mine due to the fact I've seen him fight in person twice in Newark.  One of those times of course being vs Shogun.

Hes changed outside the ring since then, of course... But who cares? Dudes a straight up animal in the cage.  Pokes some eyes but that's a side effect of how he uses his hands (which isn't illegal until those fingers stray down the face).

Hoping for a good fight but JJ is my guy so I'm pulling for him to defend.

Why do people want to resist the chance to see a dude put on the greatest championship run of all time?

i was going to mention the FOX thing. i wonder if that's Dana testing the waters for how much money they could make without PPV.

well it's good to know he's thinking about it i guess.

People are in general definitely self-centered. They want these superstar athletes to do things how they think they should do things, on and off the court

Jones is definitely cut from a different cloth... he's bound to rub a lot of people the wrong way

But like I said, that's life. Everyone has an opinion and everyone judges from the outside

I personally love all the different personalities. From Diaz to GSP to Jones to DC.. to LeBron to Kobe to Tim Duncan. Contrast is the spice of life for me

Idk if they'll get rid of PPVs anytime soon. Just today Dana was talking about how he expects this PPV to get 750k buys and how PPV isn't dead, they just had a bad year.

I just noticed Jones got that tattoo touched up, thankfully

Cormier looks like a rabid dog just talking jibberish. Jones so calm and relaxed

Tired of the buildup

Is it odd that jones kept his pants on?

Can't wait for Gus vs Rumble either.

Though I have a feeling the winner of that fight will be waiting in limbo, this Jones vs Cormier fight has rematch written all over it.

DC would've ate Fedor's food, as much as I liked Fedor he wouldn't have had an answer for DC's wrestling.

God I hope not

I ******* hate immediate rematches

For this reason I hope for a finish tomorrow, NO QUICK REMATCHES PLEASE

I'm ready to see Gus get another title shot, but if Rumble beats him we're gonna have one hell of a contender.. either way

Word, I'm salty as hell that Rory has to wait longer for his shot at the Welterweight crown.

I really do not want to see Big Rig vs Lawler again. eyes.gif

Yup, very very unhappy with Rory getting a raw deal

I mean I want to see a great fight tomorrow but I also pray that somehow we don't get Jones Cormier II in another 6 months. Judging from how Dana is doing things, and that PPV numbers need a boost, I'm fearful. Say tomorrow is an epic fight.. and antics happen after the fight.. they wouldn't even need to advertise for the rematch to get PPV buys

There's a UFC fight every week it seems now, so I agree with the over saturation

UFC should have no more than 2 events a month, 1st & 15th.

1st being a free Fox Fight Night

15th being PPV

24 cards a year

There was 46 events in 2014
