The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Pretty much. The antics were a way to get into Weidman's head. He obviously didn't respect Weidman's hands or clearly heard when Longo said to deflate the air from his chest.

Most people in the know we're giving Weidman the advantage in the fight. Like JBJ, Weidman is the prototypical wrestler with good striking (Weidman has more power in his hands than Jones though). Chael, despite choking in the fifth, exposed Anderson.

And I looked up Johnson and Jones reaches. Jones has a 6" reach advantage. My gut says to go with Rumble but my head says Jones. JBJ is the safe bet.
Around NT, I don't believe Weidman was getting any love at all

Also, UFC Countdown will be on FS1 tonight at 7 PM PST I'll be watching

Yea, I remember seeing a good amount of wrestlers picking Weidman, but I don't remember seeing a lot of people pick him, on NT or off beyond that.

But clearly my recall is not so good

Also looking forward to seeing Gastelum/Woodley and McCall/Lineker on the premlims.

Gastelum throws himself into that mix at WW with a win.

Diaz versus Lawler (whip ok he knocked out a long time ago) and Brown fight would be good. But no Bueno on Hendricks/Rory/Woodley. Keep Nick away from wrestlers.

The Silva fight is great because stylistically they are similar strikers with BJJ backgrounds. Silva obviously is probably the better striker, has more power and movement.

And if Gastellum wins, I'd give him one more fight with a Condit, McDonald or Hendrix to cement his #1 contendership.

I really wish Nick didn't punk out after the GSP loss

WW has gotten so crazy since he left.. Brown, Hendricks Woodley, Rory and Lawler

Imagine Diaz vs. any of those guys

I still think that if Diaz shocks everyone and beats Silva, UFC is gonna give him Lawler. I think he's the only guy to ever ko Lawler so thats what they'd use to build it up.

Rory aint a wrestler and Woodley has shown a tendency to not go to his wrestling in his last several fights.. but yeah Hendricks has been point fighting the past 2 or 3 fights

Nothing would surprise me, I mean, they were ABOUT to do Lawler/Hendricks III for Christ sake

Whatever makes them the most money

I forgot to name Lombard, imagine Nick v Lombard

I'm not sure what Rory is...but he seems to have that Tri-Star point fighting thing down pat. Rory and Nick would be a boring fight. Rory/Woodley wouldn't be absolutely terrible...maybe.

Lombard, Brown, Lawler and guys outside the top ten would work stylistically for the big cry baby.

Rory is an all-around fighter, striker first. He only point fought for 2-3 fights. For the Woodley and Saffedine wins, he went back to killer Rory

Rory just fought Woodley and outclassed him

Nick is a cry baby though

I still enjoy his fights quite a bit

Gonna be interesting, are Silva & Diaz just going to stand in front of each other mocking each other? They both gonna leave their hands down taunting the other one to throw?

Fight has great potential for lulz.

Nick needs to check one leg kick just so Anderson knows he's serious then go for a take down. Anderson will have Weidman flashbacks.

So what do you guys think? Quick like the Griffin/Bonnar fights or five rounds of absolutely nothing.

I think it'll be a high volume exchange, kickboxing match. Both men will be anxious to start being away for so long but eventually they will settle in and fire. I don't think there's going to be much taunting, if anything Nick will wave Anderson to "come on" but I don't foresee a boring match at all

They're both known for their taunting and posturing. And would you guys describe Nick as a kick boxer? I've always felt he's one of the few competent boxers in MMA. Anderson strikes me (Badum bum) as a kick boxer.

And do you think it'll be a first round stoppage for Silva or a five-round decision that could go either way?

Right, but they aren't going to taunt for 5 rounds and do "absolutely nothing", IMO. They both have something to prove after coming off long layoffs and they both love getting into high volume exchanges, especially Nick. Anderson is a counter striker but he will test Nick at some point with flurries

Nick isn't a kickboxer he's a BJJ guy who evolved his boxing so much that he's now pretty much a brawler, volume puncher. Anderson isn't going to try to go down to the mat with him and I don't think Diaz will bother doing much of that either which is why I said it'll be a kickboxing match

Could see it going to decision, Nick is a tough SOB

Dillashaw, did he say this with a laugh
laugh.gif

"I was never approached with it. I knew it was an idea and it was being talked about, not only by the media and Lorenzo and the matchmakers, but I was told that they called Urijah asking if he would take the fight," Dillashaw said.

"It's just something that we're not really wanting to do right now. I don't feel like it's a situation where we have to do it. I feel like I do have fights that I can fight. I do have (Raphael) Assuncao, I do have Barao to rematch, I'm hoping (Dominick) Cruz gets healthy. You know, I don't want to have to fight my mentor. Urijah is the one who got me in the sport, he's the one who talked me into fighting instead of going into grad school. So it'd be a real tough thing for me to have to do to kick his ***."

After what Anderson said this last week, Dillashaw has to know the writing is on the wall. He's fighting Uriah.

There's no one else for him to fight after Barao. Assuncao is the only other opponent.

Sucks that Dominick got injured, I was looking forward to Cruz vs Dillashaw more than pretty much everything besides Jones and Cormier.

Also speaking of Jones, Johnson's striking is foreal so if he can keep it standing and in the middle of the cage, he actually might have the advantage vs Jones. Having said that though, unless Anthony Johnson really improved his takedown defense, I'm pretty sure Jones is gonna **** his whole **** up, bad  . AJ was a terrible matchup for Gus because Gus had no chance of taking him down so he had to survive AJ's power or knock him out, but Jones is probably gonna play it smart and have him on his back or against the cage for 5 rounds. Who knows though, hopefully it's a good fight.

Dillashaw vs Faber? Sign me up. :smokin

:frown: Yeah, really does suck that Dom got hurt. I have a feeling we'll never see the Cruz of old again. Was (and still is) one of my favorite fighters.

Stylistically Dom & TJ have a lot of parallels which would've made that fight extremely interesting.

Question is, when/if Silva wins where does he go from there?

He's recently expressed frustration with both Lyoto and Jacare openly expressing their willingness to fight him.

He considers both friends and has said previously he would "never" want to fight them for that reason, but they on the other hand would fight Silva if the UFC called upon them to.

So what then? I mean he pretty much is going to have to fight one of 'em if he wants another crack at Weidman at some point. He's said in the past that he no longer aspires to be champion but let's be real, that's a load of ********.

So unless he's just going to be angling for "Super Fights" from here on out and is willing to fight the likes of Jon Jones & Rashad Evans, he's going to have to fight a compatriote who he considers a friend at some point.

Because nobody wants to watch him fight ******* Luke Ruckhold or some ****. Please.

Though....I kind've want to see Yoel Romero get a crack at Silva, because I honestly believe he has a legit shot at upsetting SIlva. But again nobody (casuals) would want to see that.

Spider's gonna kick teeth out of Nick's mouth

Bruh imagine if the ONLY strikes he throws are left kicks??

He's crazy/good enough to pull that **** off too.

He might throw kicks, Nick doesn't check kicks.

I have a feeling that Andy gonna start joking around dodging punches, that will piss Nick off and Nick gonna flip Andy off. Then Nick starts to pressure Anderson cut gets caught and put to sleep

I'm betting on Nick though. Last time Nick was a huge underdog he swagged all over Samrock and go me paid. I'll out a $100 up to risk him pulling off a upset again
