The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

I don't understand why people keep referring to the first Silva loss to Weidman as "ridiculous" or "bizarre".

He did the same thing he's done in plenty of his wins and got KTFO.

He also lost the first round of that fight.

Similarly, he lost the first round last night. Almost got KOd again. With no games.

Threw 2 leg kicks that were checked. Weidman claimed in was part of his strategy and even Rogan said that Donaher made a point of working on that after the first fight.

So basically Weidman has won both full rounds against Silva, KOd him in another round and has good enough defense that the 4th ended in injury.

And people still questioning his "talent"?

Thank you, brotha. They don't hear you though.

Anderson is still a GOAT in the sport. Nothing but respect and full, healthy recovery. But he's 38 and Weidman was the better man both nights.

Weidman Bomaye. Destroy Vitor.

Weidmann is the real deal.

Almost every UFC belt is held by a wrestler. :nerd:

Vitor will be a big test for Weidman

All that experience/striking/TRT infused strength is a lot to handle, he's proved himself in my eyes already though regardless

As stupid as that guys point was about Anderson (wtf? :smh: )I agree with his comparison of Ronda being a female Fedor. I brought this up to my homies last night during the fight. Same discipline(sambo is judo) and very similar style of fighting and finishes.

Very nice win for Uriah Hall too. that guys striking is something serious. he just needs to fine tune his game a little bit and he will be a contender

Hes trolling.

Think about how many times Anderson has thrown that kick with no problems.

1) I'm not sure how often it's been properly checked. People are so concerned with his hands.

2) It sounds like Weidman and his camp specifically worked on that very same technique. "Following the kick" and checking it on the knee as he put it.

He even mentioned that Longo did the same thing to someone in their gym.

Sad for that to be Anderson's last fight (if it is). But that is the reality of combat sports.

Anderson won against Cote because Patrick ****** up his knee. Aldo's last win had an element of injury.

Goes with the territory. Doesn't take away from the fact that Anderson never won a round against Weidman.

I honestly thought Silva was going to come out for BLOOD. From the 1st Round. And he didn't. He was hesitant with his striking. Which speaks volumes....

I'm surprised that Weidman didn't hurt himself as well. When you check a kick it hurts like a !@#$% for both people. It's that funny bone feeling x100000. :x

I'm pleased most of you agree that Weidman deserved both wins and was the clear better fighter. Doesn't take anything away from Anderson

Cyborg will never cut to 135 and Dana will never concede a catch weight.

Don't even know how many fights Cyborg signed on for with Invicta.

Cyborg should just lose some muscle. Fighters who want to make a certain weight never want to lose some of the bulk they've packed on. rousey dropped down in strikeforce to avoid Cyborg and get the lower weight belt.

Weidman better not underestimate trt Phenom or he might get his noodle split. Vitor aint going to be passive and mentally hesitant like Anderson was.

Rousey won't lose because there just aren't any female fighters especially at 135 lbs thats got the punching power to knock her out.  Rousey can walk through most of their punches and take a couple to go in for the clinch.  Unless there's a young female fighter that can hit like a Ann Wolfe or Lucia Rijker Rousey will prolly go years undefeated

I don't like how my friend from high school, who i think is friends with weidman is bragging like he's the one who was fighting in there. Even posted a pic of an anderson toy with a bent leg and saying it's funny.

^^^^

Cornball fanboys are a dime a dozen. Just ignore him.

He mentioned that he hurt his knee in training and was talking about it immediately after the fight.

Not sure it's the same knee, but yea, I'm sure those checks didn't tickle.

Some interesting commentary from a few Thai boxers....

You learn this type of check in muay Thai. Instead of just raising your leg so that shin hits hits shin, you aim your knee at the kicker's shin to cause maximum damage. It's really hard to get the timing and placement right, but when you do... the onus is on the kicker to set the low kick up so that the receiver can't aim the knee as easily.
Turn that knee towards your opponent.

And....

Chris turning his knee made it so that leading edge met leading edge and the impact points on each other legs dictated the break.
Andy's tibia has a smaller x-section (because it's lower on his leg) at the point of impact.

Interesting note in the first quote. Did Anderson set those kicks up with punches? I can't recall. He may have set up the first but definitely not the 2nd.

Checking kicks is the worst in training. Deep bone bruises are the worst.

Nelson: Hall just needs to carry the mean streak. He fights too nice like against Howard and Gastellum. I want aggression and killer instinct.

Jecca: Sincerely hope Weidman KO's Vitor on the counter.

Shogun: I met Weidman at a Devils game. Very cool, humble. Before he won the MW belt. A lot of people my way know him through Hofstra or CC.

those guys are trying to over analyze it. weidman did what they teach you the first day of muay thai. he met anderson's shin with his shin. there was no special or intricate technique there. If Anderson was a little deeper on his kick he would of landed with a thicker part of the shin and likely wouldn't of broke but he was coming with his rear leg which makes it difficult, that and he really sat on the kicks and Weidman was timing them nicely. Anderson didn't set them up either.

Some dudes showering Weidman with high praise for the least significant move of the fight.

The victory lies in what proceeded the stoppage imo.

Yeah the check stopped the fight but the guy near K.O'd Anderson in the first and controlled him on the ground. That's what legitimises the win.

I think people want to discredit Weidman because he isn't flashy. He doesn't throw cool looking attacks like jon jones and anderson silva and he's not some athletic freak. He's a blue collar fighter that will out-work, out-grind and pummel people.
