The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

That's why I love mcgregor , he gives no dambs and putting his pride on the line if he loses the guys is hungry that's why I have to give him the slight edge but again it's mma we shall see this past year has been a ton of underdogs winning. So you never know

Funny thing is his pride isn't completely on the line, Chael already set the blueprint for this ****. He takes a loss and he goes into Chael territory, as long as you stay competitive at or near the top of your division, you string off a couple wins while running your mouth and the big money fights and title shots will be right there. Connor is already hedging his bets by talking **** about dos anjos now, saying if the featherweights ask nicely he'll move up a division. Even if he loses to Aldo all he has to do is stay credible enough as a top fighter and he's got options at either 145 or 155 if he chooses. His backup plan/exit strategy is already in place.

Conor is so screwed if he loses to Jose.

First off he will be a laughingstock because of his antics

Then they will feed him to the murders row of 145 contenders

Maybe I can see if getting a last minute step in tittle shot. But he would get murked by nearly every top 155 contender

He only got this tittle shot because Jose has cleared out the division. If Jose was a fresh champ Conor would be at best a year to 18 months away from a tittle shot at 155 if an injury happens

I got no respect for dude, I hope Jose washes him, and then let the rest of the division feed on the scraps

Conor is just another lame slangin dem wolf tickets

One thing i love is how Dana stands between 2 world class killers like he has the prowess to shut down a situation if it really went off.

He should just sit to the side with a lighter held to a contract cause thats all he represents

^
dana was with max kellerman on espn2 and kellerman made a good point with all these hostile staredowns and pushing. These guys get paid a lot of money to fight and at staredowns they look like they want to fight for free or get the fight called off. aldo hitting that leprechaun with a double flying knee before a staredown would be sweet though.

Enough with the Tomfoolery...

Gents what are your picks for the card this weekend??

Card is pretty stacked from a match up point of view.

REALLY looking forward to Masvidal/Ianquinta and Mendes/Lamas

Hope Diamond Poirier can get a win as well being at the LW division

aldo is going to destroy that lead leg of conors....
He is just going to destroy him in general IMO. I was trying to put a bet on the fight last week but got too drunk in vegas and ended up doing no sports betting at all

Idk. I just re-watched Aldo vs Mendes 2 twice. Mendes was eating Aldo alive with the boxing and Mendes has little T-Rex arms compared to Conor.

Not only that but Conor's mind games have worked. Aldo is going to come out swinging and that's what Conor wants. Aldo is emotional. Same way the fans are. Like any of this is real lol.

Hate to say it but I think Conor destroys Aldo. Counter boxing and finishes by the second round.

Now whether or not Conor can stay the champ with the wrestlers being top contenders in line for the next shot, idk.

But I have a feeling we will have a new champ by July.

"Diamond" was having success with leg kicks before he got emotional and clipped.

When the fight was first announced, Aldo broke in the -180 to -200 range. Pretty favorable odds for the champ when you factor in Conor's unproven takedown defense and untested basic jiu-jitsu.

Work with "Bang" improved Mendes' boxing tenfold. We saw it against Guida, Elkins, and the Aldo rematch. Movement and distance will be two monstrous factors between McGregor and Aldo. Another question is how often and willing will Aldo be with his offensive wrestling? Landing the takedown followed by ground and pound, testing Conor off his back in open guard.

McGregor could jump to 155 immediately, win or loss. Kavanagh said it during the Siver buildup. Making 145 is challenging for Conor, and he has his eyes on lightweight.

Agreed Champ. Stupid pool parties at Encore Beach got me too faded to do anything during the day time

I think the Conor hype is getting too high but Aldo will humble him. I do like Conor  though, he is freaking hilarious.

Damn, 90% of NT thinks Conor bout to get washed

Count me in that 10% that disagrees and maybe that 1% who think Conor might just win this damn thing

Conor might not "hit" as hard as Mendes but he sure does have more technical striking with hands and legs/feet. Not weak by any means

This right here.

That TMA stance eats leg kicks all day. It's extremely hard to check leg kicks from that stance, and nobody has mentioned the fact that McGregor is a southpaw and his lead leg will be eating kicks from Aldo's rear leg which is the power roundhouse.

The one difficulty I could see Aldo having is actually being able to plod down McGregor to land these kicks. McGregor is really nimble and quick, has a great feel for his range and he will not stand directly in front of Aldo for long.

The thing is we have been down this road with Aldo before.

Faber was suppose to take him out in the WEC---gets washed

Florian dropping down to 145 was suppose to take him out----easy W

NT's favorite Edgar was suppose to be the guy----easy W

Conor is going into this fight has way more question marks and less credentials than any of these previous giant killers.

-Conor got me so pissed off I forget that lame Rory gonna get his head knocked ouff too that night :smokin

We've also been down the road before where said Champ's next opponent is going to get washed and we see the opposite happen

There's no point in comparing those situations IMO

Judge if you want Conor's resume and it's fair to point out it lacks big name W's. From what I've seen in his fights, his skill set, his size, I don't think he's going to get washed at all

Plus I don't think all of that is accurate anyway: Faber (WEC), Florian and Edgar were supposed to win? Not buying any of that. I don't think there's much of a movement saying Conor "is the guy". I really don't see that at all. Most folks have Aldo winning

Conor definitely doesn't get washed just off size length and boxing abilities alone. Should be an interesting fight. Aldo was more aggressive than usual against Mendes but let's not forget this was the same dude that people were basically calling boring prior to that when he decisioned hominick, edgar, florian, lamas, and essentially Chan sung Jung without the injury.

Conor has a decent chance which actually really bothers me because I dude is a little too extra. I'm hoping Aldo works him but I wouldn't be shocked if it was alot closer than people seem to think it's gonna be.
