The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

So did anyone else see that the owners of the UFC have accepted a bid of 4.2 Billion for the organization?

Confirmed with multiple sources yesterday.

It's official, folks. She's sold. :frown:

EDIT: found it on the top of this page. :smh:

RIP UFC.

I'm not the biggest Dana White fan, but the grass ain't always greener either.....

Ariel being the new President would be fitting.

I wonder if Rogan would stay if the new ownership asked him to be President.

Rogan is one of the few guys I can stand hearing talk on the fight game (obviously Ariel being another), because he knows what he's talking about since he trains regularly.

Rogan knows more about the mechanics and science of fighting itself and Ariel knows more about the org / sport and its fighters, I believe.

hell outta here with that

guy did his part building it up and now its time to move on, i mute the tv anytime this guy talks

no big deal if he stays on behind the scenes but that whole up front "you wanna be a a ******* fighter?" image has to go

Agreed. Time for Dana to go. He's done all he can for the UFC.

My beef with McGregor has to do with how he carries himself, but I'm also not a fan of McGregor's TKD kicks.

Understanding the hard work doesn't mean I have to like his style of fighting. I've never been a fan of the Karate/TKD background guys, including Machida and GSP in the UFC and the TMA dudes that were in K-1.

Y'all aren't understanding the basis for me writing off the kickboxing background. He competed in American style kickboxing which is pretty much a joke in contrast to kickboxing in China, Europe, Japan, and Thailand. You don't have to agree, but watch some of it then put on a Slamm!! or Kunlun event and tell me which is better.

He's done well in the UFC, but I feel his opposition is weak similar to McGregor until he faced Aldo, his real test will be Lawler.
I'm sorry actual insight based on experience in the ring doesn't make sense to you. Put quotes around "fighter" and call me washed up all you want, they're two terms you clearly have no grasp of.

Lawler is champion tho. What does that say about wonderboy if the only person in the division that can test you is the champion? Easy path to the title fight you say but yet he fought and dismantled 2 of the top 5 ww in the world? C'mon son . You may not like him or his style and that i can understand.
But to discredit all the work he as put in is stupid

I just read an article on it on bloody elbow. Dude continues to be a jackass. Taking shots at Helwani, saying he's not a "real" journalist and he criticizes him for having a website. Surprised they responded to criticism and lifted the ban.

Dana gonna Dana.
Fans do not care that much about how they get the news on Brock's comeback...
 at calling Helwani a "website guy".
Dana is so typical and predictable.

I guess chalk it up to my hate for Brock, but I'm glad his big surprise got ruined.

Hopefully I'll have a huge smile on my face seeing him knocked unconscious by Mark Hunt. :pimp:

When shall we all put in our predictions for 200? :nerd:

so gsp tryna come back to fight bisping? :rolleyes

i dunno seem like a weak move by gsp....how come he didn't challenge when chris of luke were champ?

I bet dana shuts the gsp comeback down

Unlikely. GSP is a big draw and his return from retirement will do numbers, in Canda or otherwise.

If GSP is weak for calling out Bisping, Bisping is equally weak for challenging Hendo. That's handpicking at its finest. Sure, you want to avenge the UFC 100 KO loss but Dan Henderson for a MW title bout? Legend in the sport, don't get me wrong. But he's 45 and lost four of five before rallying against Lombard. Got tagged hard and often against Lombard and Shogun. KOed twice in his two most recent losses against Vitor.

Rockhold doesn't deserve a rematch, fine. But let it be Jacare or Weidman to get next crack at Bisping. Even Gegard and Romero are more deserving than Hendo for a title shot.

Yea I really hope they don't just gift GSP the MW shot vs Bisping. It's not too late for the A. Silva match as that's a fight that would still do numbers. There's rumors of Hendo getting the shot, it definitely makes sense financially and I wouldn't mind if it happened. Have a feeling Bisping will push his defense til late in the year.

It's all a persona Conor McGregor is depicting. Everything he does is to promote himself and sell fights. Ultimately cashing out and lining his pockets, as well as the UFC's. I truly don't believe he acts as brash, cocky, talkative in his personal life. McGregor's personality is consciously calculated and his actions are deliberate.

I hope you know some of his TKD kicks have function and importance besides being aesthetically pleasing.

No argument with you regarding North American kickboxing not holding a candle to Asia. Pure facts. But regardless, "Wonderboy's" American kickboxing has translated extremely well to MMA success.

Thompson was never gifted a Dennis Siver like Conor was. Or a Mendes on short notice. The comparison doesn't hold.

They are big wins based on name alone is what I am trying to convey, but even then I don't think they are great wins. Hendricks hasn't looked good in a very longtime, his weight issues likely have a huge role in that. And McDonald will not rebound from his loss to Lawler in my opinion, if his nose cannot be fixed he'll lose every fight that finds him getting crack in the nose.
Strongly disagree. "Wonderboy's" resume is legit. He finished Whittaker in the first round, who is on a 5-fight win streak since and owns a W over Uriah Hall. Beat Cote, who is tough to knock out and has won 6 of 8. The only two losses to Thompson and Cerrone. Then a beautiful spinning hook kick to KO Ellenberger, who is dangerous and has power. "Big Rigg" has trouble making weight, that's true, but he has the best MMA wrestling at 170 bar none and immense power in his left hand. Ask Fitch and Kampmann. Hendricks finished Fitch in like 12 seconds. And the short left dropped Kampmann easily. "Wonderboy" fought an intelligent fight against Johny. Didn't allow Hendricks to use his wrestling advantage or negate space. Utilized his significant reach advantage and picked apart "Big Rigg" from range. Icing on the cake was Rory Mac. May not be the same man or fighter after the Robbie war, but he's still a 26-year-old killer. Extremely well-rounded with no glaring flaw to his game. He'll get back in the lab with Firas and rebound with a nice layoff. "Wonderboy" blanked him on a lot of scorecards. That's dominant, not easy to do against someone of Rory's caliber. There's no one left for Thompson to run through with Condit on the brink of retirement. This is coming from a neutral, I have no love for "Wonderboy."

Low key I hope Nunes blows out Cupcake's candle. Tate is become insufferable with all these cheap shots she's takingnat Hacist Honda
Tate is a horrible matchup for Nunes. Nunes has no gas tank whatsoever and fades very quickly by R2, forget about championship rounds. If she doesn't finish Miesha in R1, which I don't believe Nunes will, Miesha will get stronger as the fight progresses into R4 and R5.

Tate can do all that talking. Fact is Ronda owns two armbar victories over Miesha. One tune-up and a healthy, motivated Rousey would wash Tate a third time.

I think GSP might be underestimating Bisping a little. He's coming off a crazy layoff to fight a dude with a pretty decent size advantage who manages to keep a fight standing with 185lb wrestlers, and who also just "beat" Anderson Silva and KO'ed Rockhold. Unless GSP really bulked up or worked on his standup game heavy, I think I might favor Bisping.
