The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

So GSP can't make 170 anymore?

Three thoughts come to mind:

1) he wants no part of Robbie (assuming he wins)
2) no reason to come out of retirement and still try and make that weight. Might as well be comfortable
3) bisping is easy pickings and big$$$$$$

Also, he has nothing left to prove at 170 IMO. Dude is the best welterweight ever. At this point he just wants the big fights and the big checks while still doing something he loves: fighting

It's all a persona Conor McGregor is depicting. Everything he does is to promote himself and sell fights. Ultimately cashing out and lining his pockets, as well as the UFC's. I truly don't believe he acts as brash, cocky, talkative in his personal life. McGregor's personality is consciously calculated and his actions are deliberate.

I hope you know some of his TKD kicks have function and importance besides being aesthetically pleasing.

No argument with you regarding North American kickboxing not holding a candle to Asia. Pure facts. But regardless, "Wonderboy's" American kickboxing has translated extremely well to MMA success.

Thompson was never gifted a Dennis Siver like Conor was. Or a Mendes on short notice. The comparison doesn't hold.

Strongly disagree. "Wonderboy's" resume is legit. He finished Whittaker in the first round, who is on a 5-fight win streak since and owns a W over Uriah Hall. Beat Cote, who is tough to knock out and has won 6 of 8. The only two losses to Thompson and Cerrone. Then a beautiful spinning hook kick to KO Ellenberger, who is dangerous and has power. "Big Rigg" has trouble making weight, that's true, but he has the best MMA wrestling at 170 bar none and immense power in his left hand. Ask Fitch and Kampmann. Hendricks finished Fitch in like 12 seconds. And the short left dropped Kampmann easily. "Wonderboy" fought an intelligent fight against Johny. Didn't allow Hendricks to use his wrestling advantage or negate space. Utilized his significant reach advantage and picked apart "Big Rigg" from range. Icing on the cake was Rory Mac. May not be the same man or fighter after the Robbie war, but he's still a 26-year-old killer. Extremely well-rounded with no glaring flaw to his game. He'll get back in the lab with Firas and rebound with a nice layoff. "Wonderboy" blanked him on a lot of scorecards. That's dominant, not easy to do against someone of Rory's caliber. There's no one left for Thompson to run through with Condit on the brink of retirement. This is coming from a neutral, I have no love for "Wonderboy."
Tate is a horrible matchup for Nunes. Nunes has no gas tank whatsoever and fades very quickly by R2, forget about championship rounds. If she doesn't finish Miesha in R1, which I don't believe Nunes will, Miesha will get stronger as the fight progresses into R4 and R5.

Tate can do all that talking. Fact is Ronda owns two armbar victories over Miesha. One tune-up and a healthy, motivated Rousey would wash Tate a third time.

Always a pleasure seeing you post homie :pimp:

This I don't agree with. His last fight at 170 was a split win over Hendricks that a few people seemed to think Hendricks won.

If Robbie wins, that's the fight I'd want to see.

Not Bisping. Not really Woodley either though

It's similar to Dom. He never technically lost the WW belt so I think he should go back to WW unless it really is too much for him at this point.

Yeah the timing of his retirement sucked. I thought he should've lost that fight to hendricks. Then he goes and leaves before savage lawler hits his stride.

I was tempted to say Hendricks but he's coming off a missed weight cut and a KO loss. Only fight at 170 that makes sense is Robbie or even Nate Diaz.

Hendricks vs GSP at middle weight wild be interesting later down the line. But j think GSP only wants big names at this point.

He should just go for big fights. What else is to prove @ Welterweight?

Diaz, Bisping, etc are smart matches.

And smh at Dana's insensitive comments. Zuffa was in the wrong for removing Ariels credentials.

"Smart matches" as in less dangerous fights for more money? I get it. It's a business.

The guy "retired" as the WW champ. I think he should fight the WW champ. As long as it's Lawler

The whole "what else is there to prove" is crazy when so many people question whether or not he won his last WW fight.

I just find it odd that he's suddenly ready to come back 100% because Michael Bisping has a belt

Dude had two stints as WW champ. Nothing left to prove. He dominated that division besides his bizarre last match with Hendricks.

And I'm sure the allure of a "war" with Robbie isn't that enticing. That's all you get with that barbarian. Condit, Rory, etc. Dude is a savage. Prime George could out point him. But I don't know right now.

I'd prefer to see fun, big money matches for him. Whereas someone like Connor, I'd like to see defend his title.

Nothing left to prove at WW? How is that possible when he's never fought Lawler

 come on now

That would be a way bigger and better fight than a fight against Bisping

Hell, if Wonderboy ends up with the title, it would be interesting as hell to see if GSP fought his one time part time training partner... to avenge Rory

I'd rather see Gsp fight Robbie the barbarian but what's wrong with trying to become a champ in a new division?

That would make him the goat.

There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with GSP going up in weight or only wanting "big fights". He's 35 and has earned the right to call the shots

However, nobody should be trying to sell the idea that GSP "has nothing left to prove at WW"

That's my only thing

Agreed.

And like someone said, dude conveniently jumped back in and up a weight when Bisping became champ.

And how is a "war" with a "savage" "barbarian" like Lawler not a fun fight for US?

Let's call it what it is.

The one good thing about the Bisping fight though is he's more likely to stand with him.

I feel you but I don't think it's completely far fetched to say he doesn't have anything to prove at ww. Dominant 2 time champ that retired on top. Of course now that Robbie has been out here clapping shoulders that's the fight we all want to see but I don't think he HAS to prove anything. Not completely disagreeing with you just saying.

Also he didn't just conveniently come back now that Bisping's champ. He's been talking about possibly coming back for a while and how he was doing a training camp not too long ago. The opportunity came up to fight Bisping rather than get his shoulders clapped by Robbie.

In general, no, GSP doesn't have anything left to prove to the world

As far as not having anything to prove at the WW division, that's where I disagree

GSP been talking about coming back for a while, yet he chooses now... convenient when Bisping wins... I'm not saying he's taking the easy way out, but it's simply not a fight I care to see.. I don't think fans would be clamoring for that either

I doubt he'd want to step in the cage with that giant rockhold if he was still the champ. Maybe let jacare get the titleshot first and see what gsp will say after.

SMH at the things im reading in here...Gsp scared to fight Lawler? Dude fought everyone they had to offer. He's not scared to fight Lawler, Robbie just not a big draw nor talker.

Also Weidman is his friend and they train together also share a coach (john danaher) so that wouldn't make sense.

He said he wants big fights, Rockhold can't sell anything, dude is literally a zombie when it comes to promo, Bisping can sell the ish outta a fight not to mention there's a BIG story here with him and Bisping....they both are tied at all time wins with 19, winner gets the record for the time being.

Yall thinkin that Bisping an easy fight for him, yall are mistaken. Anderson would be a much easier fight imo. Bisping can wrestle his *** off and fought at 205 before. Bisping would be a tough fight, his standup is better than Gsp's as far as boxing goes. He just beat Silva and Rockhold, what makes him an easy fight

I'd like to see what the odds would be if bisping gsp gets made. If gsp is a big enough favorite I'd definitely be putting some money down on Bisping.

And as far as robbie vs gsp, I'm not so sure prime gsp wouldn't have blanketed him like every other striker he fought. Hendricks was a horrible style matchup for gsp because of his wrestling but I don't know robbie could keep it standing.

Which is why I'm not that interested to see gsp vs robbie, or gsp fighting at welterweight period. If you can't stop the takedown gsp will blanket you, and it's gonna be boring as ****. I don't miss his title run at all.

Now Miesha thinks she can beat Cyborg? She been sipping on her own Kool-Aid a little too much. I'm not even sure she can get past Nunes.

@ChampCruThik while I still can't agree regarding his competition, he can only fight who the UFC puts in front of him. And I have to agree, your write-ups/analysis are always appreciated.

I do believe Koreshkov would handily beat Lawler, Thompson, and MacDonald.
