The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

I wonder what happens if a UFC free agent, during the matching period, signs a contract with Bellator that states the fighter is allowed to wear whatever sponsor they want on their fight gear.

I'm almost certain Dana brokered some deal since he lives out there. Bet you Conor isn't even paying a dime :smh:

:smh: The favortism they show some of these guys is ridiculous. Reebok deal is screwing over a ton of guys. Refuse to properly sell lesser known champs like Aldo and DJ but spend probably millions on the Connor McGregor campaign. They didn't even hype Bones Rumble as much as Aldo McGregor And Bones is the best fighter in the whole damn organization. Putting good fights on Fight Pass only cards so nobody will watch them. Weak cards that get decimated when one guy goes down. Ever since they've acquired all the competition it seems like the way they run things is getting worse and worse. I'm praying some name fighters defect to Bellator and then Jose kicks the **** out of Connor. They need a wake up call.

Phil Davis.

I had no idea that these guys were making 5-6 figures a fight in sponsors until i heard Schaub and Meathead mention it on fighter and the kid. And that's mid level guys. Kinda makes sense now when they said GSP used to make 5-6 mill a fight.

There's got to be more to it than that pay scale cause a lot of these guys will be making big losses.

What if some Arab cat started to throw some paper into MMA. Sheik Tahnoon already established ADCC so i'm surprised it hasn't already happened.

They just have to do it smart. Affliction kinda had the whole just throw money at it M.O. and it sunk in no time.

I need to understand the numbers behind why organizations like pride and strike force and the WEC didn't last though. They put on great fights and seemed to have strong viewership numbers. Maybe the UFC just made them offers they couldn't refuse.

That kinda already happened. Some company that's owned by the Abu Dhabi government bought a stake in UFC. I think its 10-15%.

The fighters need someone to bankroll a rival organization though. Competition between orgs is the kind of leverage they need. That or a union. Or both.

Don't remember the specifics about Pride, but supposedly the Yakuza was heavily involved with Pride. It was after some lawsuit filed by Fedor and CroCop's manager that the Yakuza's involvement was exposed. So Pride lost its huge tv deal and the Japanese gov't started clamping down on things which caused financial issues for them.

Strike force went a way because it was in a similar position to what Bellator is in now. As in they're not really making a lot of money so its major financier dropped out. The difference between Strike force then and Bellator now is that Bellator is backed by Viacom a billion dollar company that could probably finance the company without any issues hoping that things turn around within a few years.

UFC fighters really need to unionize.
won't happen for the same reasons wrestlers haven't unionized yet. both should be in unions and treated better than they are. i dont even like mma but seeing those payouts is disturbing for the amount of damage these guys are willing to incur.

As others have pointed out, it is easier to jump into the UFC than it is to Pro Wrestling. It's not at the level of major sports yet--won't ever be. I think a lot of the fighters are just happy to be getting a paycheck after amateur wrestling careers provided nothing.

The Reebok thing is bad. It is actually horrible. But fighters can negotiate for sponsors in addition to Reebok right? And maybe this makes it a little bit more uniform. At least fighters in the UFC aren't sponsored by the UFC a la Jon Jones.

Brah you hit the nail right on the head

The UFC has the exact same strategy as the WWE to undermine this. They know for a union to form all the stars have to be down to put pressure on pressure. So what you do? Treat the stars like royalty, bless them with constant gifts and special treatment so they never turn against you. And the "They gotta pay their dues" culture forms

It would really help fighters if the ufc had legit competition. Bellator was decent before but it's turning into a joke.

jon jones should lead a fighters union

Exactly. As you can see no stars are speaking out, nor has any champ really went against the grain in general

They keep the big draws content and the vicious cycle perpetuates

Another day another injury.

Pettis tore a muscle and ligaments in his elbow. Out of UFC on Fox 16 and expected to recover in 4-6 months.

Now its Jury v Barboza.

**** look at Weidman. Since the 2nd fight with Silva, he and Silva have both fought the same amount of times. Once.

Maybe the only positive I can find about the Reebok deal is that now with fighters losing out on a bunch of money from sponsors, now they'll fight more often to try and make up the difference.

The injury curse strikes again! smh. Was really looking forward to Pettis getting back in the cage again. Hopefully him fighting twice in 6 months wasn't a fluke.

More guys should be like Cerrone and fight 6 times a year lol. But it sucks how often guys are getting hurt in training. Real frustrating to see some of the elite guys in Cruz, Velasquez and Pettis keep getting injured.

Looking ahead UFC 187 is still a great card even with Jones and Khabib out. Cerrone should definitely be in line for a title shot with a win. Does anyone know how long until RDA is ready to fight again? Fall/Winter of this year? Also for the next HW shot I'm thinking it could come down to Hunt or Arlovski if they both win and then whoever is more impressive. Would be crazy to see Arlovski get a titleshot after must counted him out years ago.
