The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

knockin fools heads off

Alves should really be on a 4 fight win streak, his loss to Kampman was completely flukey

Alves was DOMINATING Kampman in standing up, almost stopping him. For some bizarre reason Alves went for a takedown late in the 3rd round

played right in Kampman's game and choked him out

If Condit gets by Alves, IMO, that's a really legit win (pretty much a top 10 opponent IMO)

Definitely dumb, my point was Alves was dominating the contest and was actually on the verge of stopping Kampman. Alves looked really really good in that match, so I don't take the sub loss to heart like I typically would

Therefore if Condit runs through him, I will be very impressed

Alves is a beast but he was getting lit up Jordan Mein in his last fight until the finish.

I think Condit can work him in a similar fashion by picking him apart from the outside.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Alves shoot for TD's in this fight.

UFC 194 rounds out the year in PPVs for the UFC.

Which means UFC 200 is on tap for 2016.

I know we're still a long ways away, there's a lot of things between now and 200 that can happen but still, I can't help but conjure up possible scenarios.

I feel like barring injury/legal trouble names like McGregor, Rousey and Jones (who should be back by then) are a lock.

Jones vs Cormier II perhaps?

McGregor/Aldo vs Edgar?

......The return of GSP?

UFC 187 was a fantastic card, nigh UFC 100 level IMO (Though the PPV buys don't reflect that). Obviously Lesnar vs Mir had huge crossover appeal for a litany reasons and it's going to be difficult going forward to generate the same viewership for 200 but I felt like 187 could be a template.

With the right marketing/promotion 200 could come close to 100 numbers. But it would take Jones' return and Rousey being on the card. In an odd way, Jones' transgressions and run-ins with the law have somewhat elevated his profile. Not often does the UFC make front page headlines so perhaps the UFC could use his whole ordeal to their advantage.

Then there's McGregor who is shaping up to be the next big star.

And as much as I hate to say it, there is a guy by the name of CM Punk, who has recently been seen "training" with Rockhold & Evans. I mean, it wouldn't surprise me to see the UFC feature him on the undercard at 200 against some can.

Again, a lot of time between now and 200. Entire landscape as we know it can change. Still, 200 will be a keystone event for not only the UFC but MMA as a whole. I've been pretty critical of fighter pay but Dana has made some pertinent points, the UFC is still in its relative infancy in comparison to pro-boxing. So I'd like to see the UFC to continue to grow for the fighter's sake. To that end, if a guy like CM Punk or Jones' petulant child act can bring over some more fans, then hey, I'm all for it.

Damn, I can't believe it's time for UFC 200

Dude, I just watched the MMA Hour, Bobby Green went NUTS. He's still pissed about he Donald Cerrone situation, where some racist things were claimed to have been said. Green wants to fight Cowboy, BAD

Green was saying Edson Barboza was running the entire fight. He said everyone runs
laugh.gif
He said Masvidal is the better fighter than Ianquinta and that everyone wants to run or dance these days

Also Weidman's thoughts on Rockhold/Souza:

"I would expect a tough fighter, but I'm running right through any of these guys," Weidman said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "[Rockhold]'s well rounded, but he's not great anywhere. He's not the best striker I've ever fought, he's not the best jiu-jitsu guy I ever fought. Jacare brings a different element, he's really good on the ground and he's probably more dangerous on the feet than Rockhold. Rockhold is well-rounded and keeps a good solid pace going throughout the whole fight. They are two completely different fighters. If I was to say who was more dangerous, it would probably be Jacare, but there are probably more holes in his game than Rockhold."

Good to see condit back. I've barely seen alves these past few years. I know he's dealt with a bunch of injuries.

Ehhh....

Both fighters have obviously evolved since they've faced one another but the fact is Rockhold beat Jacare in a close albeit uneventful 5 round fight. Even if Souza has IMO the more impressive record since their bout I believe Rockhold should get his shot.

Nobody should slight him for losing to TRT Vitor, the guy who even without TRT would likely still hold the UFC all-time record for first round finishes. Not making excuses for Rockhold but at the same time, Jacare sounds a bit silly to me using Rockhold's KO loss to Vitor as a reason why he should fight Weidman first when he couldn't even implement his game plan against Rockhold in their bout.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To Weidman's point, he beats both. Longo/Serra are simply not going to allow Weidman to play into either of their hand's. Longo is a master strategist and Weidman is a great pupil.

Totally forgot about the fight this sat, good to see condult back in the mix. Hopefully that knee injury doesn't turn into Dom Cruz (of what could of been).

The whole ufc tonight crew gave DC a Heros welcome, good to see but sucks DC head has gotten so big. Wish he was humble and didn't turn heel lol

Can't wait for weidman vs rockhold, I feel like most fight fans don't give weidman his dues and maybe after that fight he finally gets his respect

On another note I can't stand how people compare Ali and jbj, like Ali got stripped of his belt for a political view. Not some idiot breaking the law and doing Drugs...smfh

Just read something where Bader basically said the same thing about DC. Supposedly some of the guys at AKA are saying he got a big head and acting like he's big time now.

Listened to Weidman on MMA Hour and he's talking about how he thought he was gonna **** himself during the fight.
"I'll be honest with you," Weidman said. "It was my first time ever where I had to go to the bathroom, bad. I'm like, 'I cannot believe this is gonna happen - I'm gonna crap myself in the middle of this cage.' As soon as Vitor's walkout music came on, all I could think about was - 'I don't know if I should go to the bathroom now or hold it. I don't know what's gonna happen'. That's what was going on all through my mind the whole time I was walking out. I was wondering if I was going to become the first person to run away from the fight to go to the bathroom. I gave Ray (Ray Longo) the flag during the walkout because I was just trying to focus on not crapping myself."

It's sad to see DC act this way. Jones will humble him again and most likely retire him

It's the sport's fault. The people who talk too much get more attention and the spotlight. I dunno if he's genuinely turned into a big ego guy or is doing it to get more attention.

I mean you're right in the sense that talkers may get their careers fast forwarded (of course you have to also have some nice performances) but I don't think that has anything to do with how DC is handling this "championship win". The man is acting like he's the one true king of the 205 division. I want him to be happy and pumped, I also believe he should have a tempered enthusiasm considering he just got whooped by the true champion

DC is doing the one thing Jones couldn't do, and thats make people cheer for Jones and want him to win. If you go on other MMA sites now you see a bunch of people commenting saying they can't wait for Jones to comeback and dominate DC again. How DC is turning out to be faker than Jones. And a bunch of other comments just wanting him to shut up and stop acting like he's the real champion.

pretty much me

Was a big fan of Jones before he got all weird in the head. Was rooting against him these last handful of fights especially against DC. But I'm rooting for him to get better asap to shut this dude up
