The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Seeing the reactions to the unveiling of the rebook "fight kits" are great. I thought adidas was lazy with designs but rbk is too. Bunch of mispelled fighters names shown on the website, fighters complaining about the names displayed on the shirts, calling people stupid if they buy $95 shirts.

Weidman said he's hearing rumors that his fight with Rockhold is off and Rockhold will be fighting Jacare next. If true what would they do with Weidman? Romero? Maybe a one off fight at 205 lbs?

Well this sucks.

Was looking forward to this all year. Plus all the marketing UFC did for this fight, smh...

I saw a poster in the NYC subway with Aldo + Conor's faces plastered on it for the first time today.

Just :smh:

correct me if i'm wrong but does the commission get the final say on if Aldo fights? So whether or not he wanted to fight, the commission wouldn't clear him if they deemed it dangerous? I remember there was some sort of controversy on the doc's reports that one said he was cleared while the other said he wasn't....

No one cares about the welterweight title fight?

After GSP left and Johnny Hendricks got like a billion title shots, I stopped caring about Welterweight. (Although Condit is making an interesting return in the division.) For that fight, I got Rory Mac taking it. Dude came up from his last Lawler fight.

As for the Featherweight title.
Smh for the interim title. Cain didn't fight for like 4 years before the interim title was put into place.
But I guess whatever. I just want my dude Frankie Edgar to get his against whoever wins that fight.

Welp, all of the hype and promotion went into the FW title fight. The international tour, the Notorious series and Connor having more personality than Aldo, Lawler and McDonald combined were the UFC's focus. Never mind that it's a rematch. Never mind that Rory is a member of GSP's camp and comes off like American Psycho. Never mind that Lawler left the UFC, had a mediocre Strikeforce run and is in a career resurgence.

Rory and Robbie were doing interviews together talking bout they have respect for each other, no bad blood, and it is just business

The UFC even put all the eggs in the Conor basket for marketing the PPV. :smh:

Lawd ole Lawd, I'm don't eem like any of the Alpha Male fighters but Imma be the biggest Mendes fan when he fights Conor.

rory would be a Canadian Psycho. Seems like a funny personality to have in this sport. Haven't kept up with his interviews or what he says but i'm guessing he says crazy stuff.

Saw that dana said they made the fight for the interim title because aldo is always withdrawing from fights. He's such a jackass, must be a nightmare to work in the ufc if that idiot doesn't like you.

I think fighters have to be cleared by the commission before they can fight. UFC's doctor was saying it was just a bruise and Aldo's doctor in Brazil was saying his rib was broken. The commission asked to see Aldo's records, so if his ribs were broken they probably wouldn't allow him to fight. But he pulled out or UFC pulled him before it even got that far.

I'm excited for the 170 lb title fight strictly because of Robbie. I feel like a lot of casual fans and fans that just want a slugfest don't appreciate Robbie's striking. Hopefully Firas doesn't have Rory on that jab and move gameplan for this upcoming fight.

The first Lawler/McDonald fight was boring. I kind of hope Rory lames it out. I've wanted to see Hendricks/McDonald.

If you're the most likely replacement in the biggest fight of the year, 100% you're staying in shape on the run up.
That was only known 2.5 weeks ago. Before that, Frankie or Chad had equal odds

I wouldn't be surprised if Chad was training but there was never any assurance he would be the guy to step in

But Dana said everyone he talked too was happy about the deal

I hope they change the 30 foot cage to 25 for these title fights, definitely wanna see some stoppages that wouldn't happen if robbie/Rory and connor/mendes were fighting in the bigger cage

Speaking of the smaller cage I was re watching the machida fight say and you could tell he wasn't used to the small cage he kept backing up into the cage a lot

I really wish Edgar got the right against mcgregor, but oh well hope he doesn't get washed by chad and this whole thing blows up in the ufc's face

@Vincent Van Ho  was it you that wanted Aldo's records released? MMAfighting posted his x-rays.

Is there a reason they don't use smaller cages all the time? Seems like most fans and journalists want them to use the smaller cage cause they tend to lead to more stoppages.

Yooooo, the UFC are really scumbags. Their doctors told Aldo he just had a bruise and Dana been throwing Aldo under the bus like he could fight if he wanted too :x :smh:

Jose clapped back at McLame wit some truth doe :smokin

For three months, I trained three times a day. I invested my time and money, bringing training partners from Brazil and other countries, to do the best training camp of my life so I would be ready to defend by belt for the eighth time on July 11. Unfortunately, I fractured my rib during a training session, which I can prove from an official medical report, and besides trying my best to fight, I was forced the other way and that made me really sad. Only I, my family, coaches and teammates know how hard I worked to represent Brazil again.

My decision was made in respect to the UFC and the fans that today see me as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I couldn’t fight without being 100 percent physically and with a rib injury that could get worse if I got hit in the ribs. Many people told me to fight anyway because of the money I could make, but I wouldn’t sell myself for any money, no matter how much. I fight for love and I do it for my country. Money comes in second place, it’s like a shadow: when you try catching it, you can’t, but when you move forward, it follows you. Money ends some day, but legacy and things you do becomes part of the history, and that’s what I value the most.

I’m the UFC champion since April 2011, defended my belt seven times in four years, and will do it for the eighth time in 2015, an average of twice a year. And I’m not even mentioning WEC, a Zuffa-owned company, like the UFC, where I became the champion in 2009 and put my belt on the line twice in less than a year. That why I can’t agree with UFC’s decision to have an interim champion in my division citing the five opportunities that I couldn’t defend my belt.

If those fights had occurred, I would have done 12 title fights in four years in the UFC, an average of three fights a year, something that no other UFC champion did. A UFC champion rarely does three title defenses in one year. So that can’t be the main reason why they are creating an interim title, but the UFC is a private company which I work for, so I can’t complain about its decision, but I can’t say I agree either.

As of my opponent, who told me to step up and fight like a man, I can’t say anything about a man that imitates a TV series character (Travis Fimmel, from Vikings). That’s really who he wanted to be, because he’s probably ashamed of being who he really is, so he imitates his lines, his style and this actor’s tattoos. He’s an artist, but not from martial arts, but cheap comedy. It’s disrespectful with the actor, and with real athletes. He should look for a stage and not an Octagon. The Octagon is my kingdom and there’s place for only one king, which is me. If he wants to participate, he can be the joker he already is.

If he beats Chad Mendes, the only thing he will have is a toy belt to show his drunk friends in his country’s bars, because that’s what an interim belt represents to me: a toy. I am the champion.

UFC sinking to WWE levels whenever it suits them :smh:
