The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

I'd much rather he pull out if he can't compete..if he went in injured just for the money like pacman then I'd lose respect for da man..Dana and Co tried to bully him into fighting talking bout it was just a bruise when the x-rays show a fracture. A guy as good as Jose whose been doing it so long knows his body better than anyone else. If he felt he can't compete I believe him.

I just saw a commercial promoting Conor/Mendes as #3 FW vs. #2 FW for the Interim Title.

I thought Chad was the #1 FW?

What the **** are they doing over there?!?!

Dana is full of crap. He keeps saying "chad is the #1 contender" when UFC.com says Frankie is #1 and why the hell should chad be ranked over Frankie anyway???

There's so much bullcrap going on these days I'm starting to wane support of the UFC. They may have the best fighters but the choices they've been making and the bs they've been spewing is like a slap in the face to the fans

It's all about the $$$. There have been some attempts to legitimize the sport but at the end of the day, the all mighty dollar wins out. That's why Connor is getting the title shot. Mendes JUST fought and lost to Aldo. He should have to recover by at least winning three fights before a rematch. Give it some time and allow Chad to grow and mature as a fighter so the rematch doesn't go the same as the 2nd fight.

Frankie is the legitimate #1 contender.

But then again, we saw how things just went down a few weeks ago with Gustafson and Bader. Despite, Gus being the better fighter and more marketable, he's coming off a savage loss and definitely doesn't deserve the shot more than Bader.

And so far I've seen Dana ride hard for Rhonda and Connor. As far as throwing folks under the bus, we saw it all with the JBJ situation a few years ago. Dana is temperamental and is prone to knee-jerk reactions.

I'm not sure why he's simping/caping for them. Connor has never headlined a PPV or drew huge numbers on a PPV. Honda been on the big stage for a few years now and hasn't really drew more than 400,000 by herself.

I can understand Dana salivating for Brock or GSP. Maybe Kimbo. But none of the current stars are huge draws. Yes, JBJ, Rhousey are decent. But not huge needle movers. Even Aldo was healthy, we don't know how huge the card would've been besides Dana proclaiming it 1 Mil+ buys and the MMA equivalent of Paq/Mayweather.

The thing is I am not mad at all for Conor getting the shot. It was between he and Frankie. Ok I get that

Putting chad in there now screams of insecurity. Not saying chad can't win but Frankie is probably the bigger threat to the golden goose

Seems like the current ufc stars aren't as big as the former stars. honda is in movies and gets media coverage but most still don't give a damn about female fighters. What percentage of fans even buy the ppv's when there are other ways to watch them? I won't even consider getting the fight pass until they include live streaming of every ppv.

Chad and Frankie seem like difficult matchups for Connor. You could've flipped the coin and it wouldn't have mattered.

And I'm not mad at Connor. Besides the legitimacy of his title shot, he has the potential of bringing the most attention to the FW division and title. Besides Werdum, all of the Brazilian champions seem daft to the fact they should:

A) Learn English
B) Should promote their fights
C) Have personalities

Besides Weidman/Silva and Sonnen/Silva, Anderson, Aldo, Barao, RDA, etc all don't move the needle in star power. I'll give Dos Santos, Werdum, Machida and a few other kudos for trying to work on their English.

The caliber of fighters and personalities isn't any less than in the past. They're just boneheads at promotion and marketing.

This.

Everyone around here know I'm not the biggest Frankie fan

But I honestly think between Frankie, Chad and Jose. Conor has the worst chance of beating Frankie.

I think Jose would have over overwhelmed him, but at least he would have a chance to clip him. But Frankie would give Conor a 5 round MMA clinic.

BTW I still think Chad beats Conor.

-And I think the UFC is sooooo shady, that if Conor loses, they won't feed him to Frankie. They will hold him back in case their is an injury in Mendes v. Aldo 3 so he can get another shot.

Get outta here with this brah.

Brazlian fighters don't owe it to anyone, especially the UFC to learn English. It would be nice but it not putting any money in their pockets. The UFC wants them to learn English to bad, pay them too and provide them with tutors

They do have personalities, it is just that they don't act the damb fool to promote fights, and their is a language barrier. And lets keep it all the way #1HUNNA. Many Brazilian fighters are black, and the general MMA audience like their black fighters humble. Sonnen and MCGoat :rolleyes can rant and rant and be loved. Shad and Jones show some arrogance and fans turn on them

I want to see athletes compete, not some characters selling me wolf tickets.

I hated sonnen at first but he was funny so I started to like him. Never knew where the hare for rashad came from. I remember a few crowds booing him for no good reason at all besides him probably being confident and black.

The Rashad hate came from Matt Hughes on TUF when he said he hates the way Rashad fights cause he showboats and how he's gonna use him as an example of how his guys should never act. Then Rashad KO'd Chuck and that caused him to be hated more.

They don't owe it to any of the UFC or U.S. fans.

However, the UFC is a U.S. based company. On one hand Barao and Aldo can't complain about not earning enough money but then not try to learn English to help capitalize on endorsements or promote cards and draw a greater audience.

RDA, Dos Santos, Machida, Barao, Werdum, etc are not black. Race isn't the issue. The only color UFC cares about is green. It's probably why they protected JBJ for as long as they did.

And last time I checked, Mayweather isn't a humble dude and is caking from playing up the villain role. Ali was black and wasn't a humble dude. Dwayne Johnson is half black and got over in wrestling mostly for his personality and mouth.

Feeding him Chad is a win/win situation. If he beats him he proofs his point that he's the #1 guy. If Conor looses then he can chalk it up as a late mixup he couldn't prepare for.

Regardless, I have Conor winning this cause his stand up his better and he knows how to use his reach more affectively.

All bad :smh:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...w-clear-rib-break-former-chargers-doctor-says

On Tuesday afternoon, Dr. David Chao was contacted by representatives for UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

They did not tell him at the time who they represented. What they wanted was a clear, unbiased look at Aldo's MRI results.

Chao, the former team doctor for the San Diego Chargers and a practicing surgeon in the San Diego area, agreed to take a look.

Three separate doctors in Brazil had diagnosed Aldo with a broken rib. The UFC, however, had released a statement downplaying Aldo's injury and saying that "several doctors" had confirmed the injury as a bone bruise and cartilage injury.

On Wednesday afternoon, Chao was finishing up a surgery when he received another message from Aldo's camp asking if he could hurry and take a look. Unbeknownst to Chao—who described himself as a casual mixed martial arts fan that rarely keeps up with the news covering the sport—Aldo had pulled out of the fight, and the champion was taking a beating on social media from the fans and media who said he was harming his legacy by withdrawing.

So Chao said he would take a look. The team sent him a zip file with over 100 images from the MRI. With usual MRI files, a doctor can scroll through quickly, looking for problem areas. But Aldo's MRI file was jumbled, a result of the compression used before it was sent. The files were out of order, and Chao told Aldo's representative that it might take a little bit to find the slide displaying the affected area.

But when Chao got to the slides that covered the area, he immediately recognized the injury.

"The MRI image I saw shows a fracture," Chao told Bleacher Report on Thursday morning.
He told Aldo's rep that the person in question needed to get it taken care of. When the rep asked if it was an injury that could heal quickly, the doctor laughed and said no.

It was at this point that Chao was informed that the MRI belonged to Aldo. They also gave the doctor permission to publish his thoughts via his Twitter account. Chao used his phone to take a photo of the MRI screen and then published the image with his analysis late Wednesday night.

The images are striking. The white-hot lines streaking across one of Aldo's lower ribs are seemingly proof that the champion indeed suffered a break. Two independent doctors contacted by Bleacher Report seconded Chao's assessment.

The images tweeted by Chao are also blurry. That, Chao noted, could be a product of several things.

"They are blurry because you have to breathe. MRIs are a three- to five-minute sequence, and it isn't easy to stay still," he said. The poor image quality is also due to the way they were taken: with a phone camera held up to a computer monitor.

Chao said that out of the over 100 images contained in the MRI file, he picked out the two that showed the clearest picture of the break. They are essentially the smoking gun that proves Aldo's injury was what he originally said it was.

"It is clear to me that there’s a fracture on that image," Chao said.

The UFC has not responded to a request for information regarding the doctors they used to verify Aldo's injury.

Kinda funny how fans' perceptions are different from people in the sport. Seemed like a few fighters thought hughes was a douche but he still remained popular.

Poor Aldo. I'm glad the UFC was shown, once again, to not take the welfare of their fighters into consideration going into a fight (JBJ/Cormier) but the victory won't resonate for long since most humans have short-term memories. With the change of opponents, it's clear Connor was the headliner and draw. We're still getting a great FW fight (along with the forgotten WW title fight).

And Hughes was a douche. He just had a certain air about him. Not taking anything away from him as a fighter.

Dana.

Is UFC really having Sinead O'Connor sing during a special walk-out for McGregor? Was Bono busy or something?

I'm still hyped as hell for this fight btw. I'm ready to see Conor face a wrestler. Chad looks good, not surprisingly, in the embedded clip
