The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Great to hear Sonnen/Wandy is still on. Bad blood fights are always great theater

Reem would get destroyed by JDS IMO. Looks like JDS wants Stipe

Quote:
While dos Santos (16-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) claims he is open to fighting anyone, there are only a few realistic options for the former champ. Two matchups that seemingly make sense are against rising contender Stipe Moicic (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and former UFC titleholder Josh Barnett (33-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC).

Dos Santos admits both matchups are intriguing, but if he had his choice, he said he’d face Miocic, a fighter who also like to trade strikes and would mesh perfectly in terms of style.

“I prefer Miocic,” dos Santos said. “I think Miocic is living a very good moment in his career, so it could be a good fight for the people.”
This Patrick Cummins guy has balls and at least he has 4 finishes in 4 fights. Cormier may have caught some feels

"I heard about this kid Patrick Cummins before," UFC president Dana White told MMAFighting.com. "The thing that's interesting about this kid is that he was the training partner of Daniel Cormier and claims that he made Cormier cry when they would train together. Not only did he say that, he said he broke him every time, and he said he would break him again next Saturday."
"There's a lot of pressure that comes with trying to win a gold medal," Cormier told MMAFighting.com, "something that Pat wouldn't understand since he was only a training partner to me and Kerry McCoy. He wasn't the guy. I appreciate him stepping up and taking the fight, but we're going to see who's going to be crying after we fight next Saturday night."

Cummins is doing a great job selling his story. Can't hate him for it, this interview was gold too.

But DC is about to SMASH the kid.

Homeboy is selling wolf tickets. DC gonna swag all over him.

Too many dudes are students of the Chael Sonnen School of Marketing these days. Problem is, graduation always ends the same way :smokin

Never seen dude fight and he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page

so I can't make any sort of prediction

Regardless, if Cormier loses or even struggles to win it'll look terrible on his part. DC is really in a lose/lose situation, I kinda prefer if he just was left off the card and moved to another card against a more well-known opponent

Wow, I'm the first to admit that I was dead wrong on the Gil situation and you were right @ChampCruThik  Gil and Bellator agreed to a multi-year, multi fight contract. But UFC still has the right to match the offer.
"It's an [opportunity] to be a part of something special and I could make history testing myself against some of the toughest LWs in the world. If the UFC wants me, they have the right to match. I'll let the fans know more as soon as it's settled."
Not gonna lie but it kinda sounds like Gil wasn't getting his way with UFC, so he negotiated a contract with Bellator hoping that UFC matches it.

Yo, wth? Fans have been waiting for Gil to be in the ufc and after a few fights he might be gone already. Dealing with the ufc can be a pain but it's still better than the dummies over at bellator.

Thats why I think its a power move by Gil and his management. UFC probably isn't willing to give him what he wants, so he signs a deal with Bellator with the terms that he wants, knowing the UFC has the right to match. But he's really taking a chance cause Dana may be in one of his moods and say screw it, go enjoy Bellator.

Damn good for Gil. :smokin Straight power move.

-Anyway the wifey is stuck outta town because of the snow. So it is UFC, All-Star weekend and Titanfall for me this weekend. And she is offering PSE when she gets back on Sunday to make up for missing Valentines. My reaction getting off the phone with her:

-Put down $150 on Gegard. Think he will take him down and control him from there

^Wow. Me, on the other hand, is stuck celebrating post-valentines with gf's family in a province where tv and internet is not very popular. So goodbye ufc, boxing, and all-star weekend.

That move by melendez is good and I hope it can be a start to a better pay and over-all treatment of the ufc to its fighters. Or else everyone will just move to other organization. That is if melendez is serious about transferring.

Respect. Licking my chops for Gil against Eddie or Chandler. Bjorn can throw Rick Hawn, Will Brooks, Alexander Sarnavskiy at Gil immediately.

Shame if UFC fans don't get a Bendo rematch, title fight with Pettis, or matchup with Aldo at 155. All in reference to Melendez.

Dana overplayed his hand on this one. Gil Melendez isn't Ben Askren. MMA fans want him in the UFC octagon. Especially after FOY candidate with Sanchez. Even his title fight with Bendo was entertaining enough to keep fans intrigued.

Power moves by Gil.

I think he still ends up in the UFC because of that match clause. Like y'all said, ppl actually want to see Gil fight in the UFC against the best, unlike Askren.

Will Eddie even be there for him to fight?
The past would indicate no. Perspective changes when you hold the belt. Can Bjorn lure Eddie to stay? Chandler rubber match, meeting Gil, Will Brooks is up-and-coming. Hawn is making noise after a successful move from WW. There's options and fights MMA fans wants to see in Bellator.

From what I remember, Eddie can bounce after he fights Chandler again. But a fight with Gil would be big $$$ for him in Bellator.

Interested to see how their first PPV works out.

Bellator needs the Gil draw at 155. Not much outside Straus/Curran, King Mo/Rampage, Chandler/Eddie, etc.

Eddie is done with Bellator after his next fight with Chandler. But if you believe Dana, Eddie has to win cause UFC won't sign him if he loses.

But this Gil/UFC thing is only gonna get messier as time goes on.

@GilbertMelendez  won’t be punked by  @danawhite  if not careful our other guys will be leaving  @ufc  for@BellatorMMA

Nick ain't fighting. Jake sucks. Is Cesar thinking Nate is enough leverage to threaten Dana?

Or am I missing something/someone?

None of them are champions. I think Gil was smart to play that hand the way he did, but this might be a bit much now.

Nick Diaz is blatantly waiting around for a 170 title shot. It's pathetic.

Jake Shields is going to negate Lombard's power at 171 with lay and pray. His fight with Maia was painful to watch and I like wrestling and grappling.

I think Nate is ready for his next fight. Give him the winner of Cowboy and Barboza.
