The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Money wise fighting for the lightweight belt > fighting Frankie

I'm not 100% on this. I think that's only clearly the case if it's Cerrone.

I'd say Frankie is more marketable than RDA. Who hasn't even defended his title once.

Belts alone do not make for interesting fights. Edgar is a former champ. Crazy 5 fight run at FW. 3 finishes.

And like Cowboy, he's a US fighter. Which can factor into marketability. Though obviously not much of a talker.

Henry makes a good point. A little crazy to vacate when you JUST won the belt.

Though he is a bit biased

Even before showcasing his KO power to the world last Friday, Edgar has long been considered a potentially rough matchup for ‘The Notorious’. His in your face, grinding and volume-based style was deemed to be a nightmare for McGregor. That, coupled with his ability to put forward a dynamic game plan by seamlessly mixing his striking with his grappling, Edgar is without a doubt one of the toughest, most grueling fights on the whole UFC roster.

Just to clarify though, Conor has made it abundantly clear that he will not vacate. Now it's a matter of whether or not Dana obliges, but Conor has never once said he is going to vacate if he takes a fight at 155. His plan is to try and hold belts at both classes

There is a difference here. Conor has definitely acknowledged Frankie's place in the division and that they could certainly fight. We will see how everything plays out. I do not believe for one moment that RDA is a fight Conor wants, regardless if it's a chance to hold two belts. Frankie isn't much easier but that's the fight you make if RDA wins

-Frankie's coach:

"I saw Conor's coach's [John Kavanaugh's] remark on your show [The MMA Hour]..Bro, why is his boy running so bad?" Henry asked. "Now, he has [had] two chances to fight Frankie. First was when Aldo got hurt [before UFC 189] and the UFC asked Chad [Mendes] 'Have you been training?' and he said no, he's been doing a hunting show. They asked Frankie, and he said, 'I train all year, yeah, I'm ready.' He picks Mendes."

"Now Frankie finishes the same guy [Mendes] he [McGregor] had on 10-day notice that spanked him until he got tired, and Frankie does his part," Henry said. "This fight comes down to both, when they were in beginning of their career, when both [were] in a kneebar, Frankie says, 'Break it off,' and he [McGregor] taps before the guy has a good grip. They're not even made [from] close to the same heart."

Henry also believes McGregor moving directly to 155 pounds goes against the precedent set by other champions – including Edgar – in the past. With no title defenses to his name yet, Henry believes McGregor should hold serve until he's earned the right to move up to challenge the lightweight elite.

"No one has ever been able to jump up in weight class before taking care of the top five, and this guy doesn't even have one defense," Henry said. "The guy says he would fight Frankie if Frankie took care of business. Well, he did, so he should be a man of his word and stop being so scared. He's the one that's been scared for so many years cutting down from 180, 175 to fight guys with less range, weight and height, while Frankie was 152 fighting 155.

"So now you have the belt –  man up and defend it. Like they said in Braveheart, 'Don't tuck tail and run.'"

That story about trying to get Aldo's urine is bananas though, I'm surprised it's not talked about more if true.

Then Aldo pulled out with the "injury"

And Aldo passed the drug test

And provided a x-ray

Conjecture without proof is still bull ****

Ironically I just browsed UFC.com and thought Conor was ranked too highly. They updated the rankings. I believe RDA should be much higher

1 Demetrious Johnson

2 Jon Jones

3 Conor McGregor

4 TJ Dillashaw

5 Fabricio Werdum

6 Robbie Lawler

6 Jose Aldo

8 Daniel Cormier
9 Luke Rockhold

10 Rafael dos Anjos

11 Chris Weidman

12 Cain Velasquez

13 Ronda Rousey

14 Joanna Jedrzejczyk

15 Holly Holm

Throwing women in the mix of pound for pound rankings? Nah.

Talent pool is way too weak to believe those women are pound for pound as good as the dudes on the Fight Pass undercards.

I remember when that idiot Joe rogan said Ronda would be able to beat half the men in the bantamweight division

Pound for pound rankings in MMA have always been garbage.

I know the ufc and athletic commissions would never let the people on the p4p lists fight but letting them have sparring and grappling sessions against each other would be entertaining.

His hyperbole and exaggerations are too much now. I never liked brian stann as a fighter but as a commentator and analyst he's awesome. Wish rogan and goldberg would go away and I can just listen to stann and whoever they pair him up with.
