Gunnar almost got KO'd.. Champ, sorry your boy had to take the L.

Gunnar has a long way to go if he wants to compete with the elite.

Rory methodical, finally exploded in the 3rd to finish with the KO

He seemed extra mad tonight at Saffedine, no clue where that came from

I think he was just hyping himself up. Was talking to him in between a round too.

I think Cowboy will show the clear difference in calibers, sorry if you find that disrespectful or amusing. I don't care. But yeah I agree, predictions are tough in combat sports

No need to apologize for what I find amusing.

Amusement is a good thing.....

Nice win by Rory. WW shaping up nicely. Forgot that Brown turned down Lombard. That's some ********. We need great fights as the title fights play out.

I'd say have Assuncao fight Faber while BW sorts out. Sounds like the title may not get defended til' Spring '15.

Potential Alpha Male subplot there if he and TJ both win.

Or just a good fight if Dom wins.

Good night for Canada on the Halifax card.

I need to catch up on Stockholm.

Too drunk for all that right now....

Alright cool then. Predictions happen in sports every day, they happen in this thread every week. I agree with you in that it can be unfair to use strong language while predicting the outcome in combat sports. That's why I rarely will do so when it comes to MMA.

When it comes down to it, I feel Cowboy's skill is much superior to Masvidal's. That's just my opinion, therefore I see a finish for Cowboy. That's all. Match up their resumes and skill sets and you'll have my reasoning for me saying Cowboy will wreck him. That's all good if you disagree, but spare me jumping on a soapbox about getting amused by folks making a prediction or proclaiming that making predictions is ridiculous.

Hurt my heart. Big-upped Gunnar only to see him fall under the pressure. Story's known for upsets, see Hendricks but traveling to Sweden against a local favorite impresses me. And I hate Story's style but he opened up a bit. Nelson's standup defense was questionable in the Santiago fight. Story's camp must have saw the tape and exposed that looming weakness. On the ground, I surely thought if Gunnar tapped Akhmedov, Story would be turned to food like Maia did. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Dana just going to give the challenger home field eh. No dambs given to Lawler/Hendricks

UFC President Dana White told the Canadian Press that the Tristar Gym standout will face the winner of the UFC 181 bout between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler sometime next year. MacDonald has won three straight fights and eight of his last nine overall inside the Octagon. His only two losses within the Las Vegas-based promotion have come at the hands of Lawler and Carlos Condit.

“It’s pretty impossible to deny Rory that, whoever comes out of that Lawler-Hendricks fight, he’s the next guy in line,” White said.

Perhaps more importantly, MacDonald will receive that opportunity on home soil.

“[The fight will] absolutely, positively, without a doubt, be in Canada,” White said. “He’s next in line and the fight will be in Canada.”

I see nothing wrong with rory fighting in Canada, the place will sell out. Canadian fans are always amped. I'm hoping Diaz knocks out silva and we see lawler vs Diaz 2 for the belt Instead. 10 years in the making

I think they're gonna have Rory's title fight in Canada because they have to do something to help with that market. From everything I've read, UFC isn't doing that great up there. Interests peaked a while ago and losing GSP certainly didn't help.

If Diaz wins, he bypasses everyone at 185 lbs and gets the Weidman/Belfort winner. Was probably just Dana hyping up the fight but he said the Diaz/Silva fight has title implications at 185 lbs.

Coverage of UFC had dropped immensely since Rogers Dropped crazy money for exclusive NHL rights. Their contract with UFC expires at the end of the year. Also, since there is no longer a Canadian champion fan interest has waned. Combine that with moving the Toronto card to Vegas and Dana shooting himself in the foot with fight pass and exclusive events and you get what we have now.

I've been hearing about some organization in Canada called MFC and how its growing and taking over UFC's spot up there? Is it worth checking out?

Expansion hurt them somewhat but the way they do business has hurt them too. It may be appropriate to say and do certain things here but its not gonna fly in other countries. Supposedly the UFC Asia closed recently cause UFC didn't blow up over there like they expected and the UFC brass in Vegas and higher ups in Asia couldn't agree on how to conduct business.

You don't see how giving the challenger home soil is just a tad unfair to the champ? Don't get me wrong, money is the motive and I'm not mad but don't tell me you see absolutely nothing wrong with that

if you really don't then OK man

But Hendricks fought lawler in Dallas, his hometown. how many times has Uriah challenged for the belt in Sacramento? They all sleep in the same hotel. This isn't college football man. None of the brazillians are complaining.

Yeah i don't buy into that home court stuff with MMA. Especially when we talk about championship level fighters.

As soon as that bell rings surely youre focused entirely on your opponent.

If you're the champ then it shouldn't matter if you fight at home or not. Probably more pressure to fight at home anyway and fam / friends bothering you for tickets.

Tonight's Bellator card looks good. Eduardo Dantas vs Joe Warren to unify the Bellator Bantamweight belt, and Michael Venom Page's hype train continues to roll out. :pimp: :pimp:

I didn't say it was college football. Not sure what that has anything to do with this. Hendricks and Lawler fought in Dallas, but neither was champ at the time. Moot point.

The UFC is based out of the USA, so the Brazilians really shouldn't be complaining. The UFC still puts a lot of Aldo's title fights in Brazil anyway.

Also, it's not so much city home field that I'm discussing, it's a whole country. Like, if Conor was challenging Aldo for the belt, if they had it in Ireland it'd be the same thing I'm talking about with Rory (or say putting the first Jones/Gus fight in Sweden). Again, I am not mad at the UFC for doing this, it's more money. I get that. I'm just saying, to put the fight in the challenger's home country...

Of course it shouldn't matter where you fight if you're the champ and the focus will be there when the bell rings. That's not what I'm discussing. It's giving the challenger his home country. Places like Canada, Brazil and Ireland seem to be bigger home country advantages than an American fighting in his home city. It's a whole different ball game when we're talking about non-Americans fighting in their home countries.

Completely agree with VVH here. Depends on the individual fighter if "home country/town advantage" really exists (Guys like Lauzon say it is harder fighting at home...), but putting a title fight in the challenger's backyard doesn't sit well with me.

As a promotion, you are basically siding with the challenger and showing less confidence for your Champion. It shouldn't matter when the cage door closes, but the Champ being in hostile territory for Fight Week doesn't make a ton of sense. A long reigning Champion? Maybe, like I see a point to be made for Jones/Gus II in Sweden, but this will be Hendricks 2nd defense, or Lawler
's first with rabid Canucks chanting for Ares.

Though, if Dana puts the fight in Calgary to make up for 149, this is all a wasted argument. Those people deserve a bone.

Fighting in your own backyard could be a disadvantage. Not only do they have the pressure of wanting to win in front of the home fans but doing all of the media leading up to the fight can be draining. If Rory fights in Vegas he'll have to do the regular interviews and promoting the fight would be split between him and the champ. He fights in Canada and he has to do a lot more interviews and most of the promotional activities fall on him. That was part of the reason GSP was happy his last fight with Hendricks was in Vegas instead of Canada.

I want Rory to fight in Canada, that way when his ***** *** gets GFTO, all his friends and family will have a front row seat.
