The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Looks like Lamas and Conor are already going back and forth. I want that fight.

Frankie or Cub deserve the next shot

"The biggest guy everybody's talking about in this featherweight division is Conor McGregor, and I'd love a fight with him. I know he's matched up in January, but if he wins that fight, I think he needs to fight a wrestler like me before getting to the title."

I would've sponsored Lamas too, only he fought like a ***** against Jose. McGregor Incorporate does not reward ******* who run for 5 rounds.

McGregor/Mendez been jawing for a bit as well.

I'm down for either of those. Conor/Lamas or Conor/Mendes.

Or Conor/loser Cub vs. Frankie. Cub has taken his shots at Conor as well.

Any combination of fights between those guys is good money.

Yep I'm down for all of that as well

A Conor/Mendes match would be

Anybody think Conor is actually going to run through these guys??

I want to believe it but the top 5 guys are different animals.

Interesting take Champ.

You give Mendes and Frankie the edge due to wrestling??
Yes. As you know, Mendes is an All-American wrestler and recently just called out Lamas, stepping in front of McGregor. He's tightened up his striking. Premium athlete that can test "KoD" in the later rounds. We haven't seen Conor's backup plan when he's landing these walk-off KO's.

Frankie I take because of championship experience, he's smart and knows how to win rounds. Escapes danger but when he's hit, granite chin. Again, if McGregor doesn't get Edgar out quick, what's his plan B? Does he panic or show resolve? We don't know, and Siver likely won't tell us.

I pick Conor over Cub because Swanson takes pride in his boxing. If you maximize fight intelligence, Cub should really utilize his grappling advantage more instead. I can envision Swanson baited into trading strikes in the stand-up.

As for "Bully," I never know what to expect from Lamas. He gave me the sub I hoped for against Bermudez, but he took no risks against Aldo. Basically fought not to lose, instead of trying to actively win rounds. Didn't overwhelm against Hioki, albeit a completely different fighter than McGregor. Opportunistic with the slip against Koch. McGregor's energy and intimidation could prove to be an effective advantage come fight night, if we do get Lamas and Conor.

With the 33 year old’s record standing at 17-4, he has still never been finished.

There is no doubt that when the contest is over we’ll see a familiar looking Frankie in the Octagon. Bloody rushing from his nose and maybe a swollen eye to complete the look, and you could bet your house on him fighting for every second that he’s in there.

Standing in the pocket, eating some punches to deliver some of his own, pushing a frantic pace, constantly changing angles and his use of straight punches—you’ll always get your money’s worth from an Edgar fight.

Apparently there was a pretty large UFC gathering in Vegas..

Matt Brown v Saffedine booked for Feb. 14th

Nick Diaz would rematch GSP
"Sure, if I do well, and he comes back in the sport, sure," Diaz said of a GSP rematch. "Why not? I see myself having a better run, too. Maybe just not being in Canada where you can just be on steroids."

For his part, Diaz, who has twice been punished by the Nevada Athletic Commission for marijuana use, said he wasn't tested for the fight, and that he might not have passed if he did.

"They didn't drug test me for that fight," Diaz said. "I probably would have tested positive. They didn't test me. They don't drug test in Canada."
Jon Jones now says he won't ever fight Spider
"I would never want to fight Anderson. Never. Ever," Jones said at Monday's UFC media day.

Jones, who said he hopes to train with Silva at the TUF gym while both are in town, explains why he considers the bout off-limits.

"I just look up to him so much," Jones said. "And he's just...I don't have many people that I've looked up to in my lifetime and think, ‘wow, how cool would it be to be that guy.' Look at what he's done. Jordan, LeBron, Anderson, Kobe, I consider them all in the same type of class. The Jeters. Athletes of that caliber don't come around that often. I don't want to be the guy to beat him. Even though that's happened already, I wouldn't want to lose to him and I don't want to beat him. "

Jones, who has made seven successful defenses of the light heavyweight title he won from Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in March 2011, essentially has two challengers of note on his horizon, the first being Cormier, and the second, the winner of the Alexander Gustafsson-Anthony Johnson fight, slated for Jan. 24 in Sweden.

After that? It sounds like Jones has given plenty of thought to competing one weight class up.

"[After] those two fights, I would consider the division clear, and that's when I would start to entertain superfights," Jones said. "Superfights I would go for. I've been training with heavyweights for years now. I know what it feels like, and I think I would do really good against them. So that would be the next chapter."

Jones, who walks around at 230 pounds, feels he could bulk up to 235-240 and make a real go of it. Even right now he feels he'd fare well against current UFC interim heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum who is of a similar weight.

"There are definitely a lot of heavyweights that I know I would beat," Jones said. "A lot of heavyweights that could give me a hell of a run or possibly beat me. I keep it real. I'm smaller than these guys."

"A guy like Werdum, I would fight him every day, all day," Jones continued. "Why? Because he's not the biggest guy. But the heavyweights I believe would give me the hardest time are the big ones. Not necessarily the better skilled ones -- just the bigger ones. You shoot in and they sprawl out on you, that's going to take a lot of energy to finish that shot, you know what I mean?"

GSP would probably retire Nick for good so I hope they don't fight for a long time

First it was Cub/Frankie then it was Conor now who knows.. at this point it's whoever wins with style I'm assuming. Conor obviously has the easier opponent than Cub/Frankie so he's in the driver seat

I think that press conference thing was where they were supposed to announce their rumored deal with Reebok but I guess they didn't get the deal finished in time.

This isn't the first time Jones said he'd never fight Silva. People use to blame it on Nike but that's not the case anymore. I wonder if DC ever got Silva and Machida to come help him train for the Jones fight. I know that he wanted to before the date got changed to January.

McGregor calling Siver a Nazi then giving a fake apology saying "Ich bin ein sowwy. Now about them feet..."

T-Wood/Gastelum co-main for 183 in Vegas...

Silva/Diaz sells itself, but need another top-tier fight on that card to maximize PPV potential, imo.

^I agree. Silva/Diaz is a fight people wanna see but other than that, the rest of the card was kinda weak before TWood/Gastelum was added. Plus you'd figure given Diaz's past and Silva recovering from an injury and recently having a back issue where he had to go to the hospital, they'd add another marquee fight that could take over as main event just in case.

Is that one of the few PPV's that will not include a title fight?

I can't remember many/the last one.
