Joe Rogan always keeps it real. Big fan of him and his podcasts.

its true schaub is heavyweight fodder

I see what rogan saying, a new potential 4 fight 100k+ contract isnt worth the damage he could sustain long term

If schaub signs another contract, its essentially to become a beating bag for up and coming heavyweights.....

Any other good mma podcasts anyone recommends

You should subscribe to Rogans podcast.

Recent guest: Rory Mcdonald.

Previously: GSP, Josh Barnett, Ian Mccall, Ronda, Bas Rutten, Enson Inoue, Rickson Gracie, Kron Gracie, Jeremy Stephens, Dan Hardy, Bang Ludwig, Dillashaw, Faber, Eddie Bravo and some coaches like Serra, Hackleman, Duke Roufus etc.

He also has fight companion podcasts on the events he doesn't do live commentary. Schaub is on those pretty regular too. They just watch the fights and shoot the ****.

There are other straight MMA podcasts but rarely are they as candid or in depth. I mean GSP came with a PR guy cause he knew Rogan would try and get him talking about crazy ****

Crazy podcast for sure. These two little comedian dudes plainly criticizing a HW, alpha type pro fighter, it was very bizarre. Fair points brought up all around but I think Rogan and the comedian reached on a few. As a pro fighter to hear two people asking you to pretty much quit, who are your buddies, I mean that's tough.

How the hell did Schaub and Rogan become such close friends anyway?   so random

I almost felt bad for Schaub even though I really don't care for him

Callen (the other comic) used to train at the same gym as Schaub. They got tight and now they do the podcast etc. Rogan and Callen are basically best friends through comedy.

Joe rarely pulls punches on anything. Especially if he feels some kind of way about it. He said before that comedy and the podcast are his priorities so i could definitely see him stepping down over the next couple years. Especially since Fox bought in. I imagine they would ideally like someone more clean cut like Stann.

Interesting that Rogan is talking about brain trauma.

As a long time boxing fan (since many moons ago, there was no MMA to be watched), I remember the classic Boxing vs. MMA arguments, which I thought were ridiculous because I love both.

But MMA fans swore it was a safer sport because the knockouts were more "flash" knockouts than the repeated pounding boxers experience.

My argument was that MMA was so young as a sport, you wouldn't really know what the long term effects of it are for another 20 years or so when those fighters are much older.

He's one of the few guys I've ever heard express concern in the sport.

Except for Rogan, the only other person I know that expressed concern was Gary Goodridge. Goodridge was diagnosed with some form of early onset dementia that's caused by repeated blows to the head. But recently some studies have come out talking about MMA and brain trauma. A lot of them were calling for UFC and other organizations to have fighters do annual brain scans. I think ESPN had an article this year saying that the risk of brain injury is higher in MMA than it is in boxing.

The sport is still very young but the training methods are rapidly evolving given the increasing concern over concussions and brain trauma.

I think Rogan mentioned during the maiN event that Robbie went 6 months without full contact sparring. I think a lot more fighters and camps are implementing more damage limitation strategies when it comes to training at present.

That being said i'm sure there will be a lot more cases arising over the coming years. Guys like Wand, Hendo, Shogun, Big country, Hunt etc.

not 6 months, 6 years

didnt start back until he joined ATT

cant remember the article but during a sparring session, he took a punch that wasnt even that bad but he says it caused problems for weeks, even had a fight during that period

Yeah, when I heard him say Robbie didn't spar for 6 years I thought I heard him wrong.

Man, it's tough hearing Schaub being in such denial.

Ego/pride/confidence are what makes an athlete great, and at the same time could be their downfall

Yeah, when I heard him say Robbie didn't spar for 6 years I thought I heard him wrong.

6 years is insane.

I think the principle is that if you're already tried and tested in full contact situations then there isn't a great deal to gain.

Chuck as well.

Yeah Chuck is already there man :\

^
Chuck partying hard probably also contributed to it.

It was definitely smart of Robbie to protect his brain. Don't take punches in sparring even if people are going 20%. Save yourself for real fights.

Makes you wonder how the guys in gyms who go all out will be a decade from now.

Anyone watching tonight?

Moreso watching for the dudes fighting on the card.

Everytime I see KJ Noons is fighting, I miss Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett a little bit

Not really into the women's matches though.

I'll flip to it...

Would like to see Rose give that work to Carla, although I see Carla just trying to take her down and sit on her the entire time.

Stephens vs Oliveira should be intense.

Didn't even know the TUF finale was tonight. But I guess that's what happens when you have a card almost every week. It really doesn't give you the opportunity and time to promote the fights.

But I'll def check out the Noons/Cruickshank and Stephens/Oliveira fights.

I enjoyed the weigh-ins. A few of the cute girls and their cheeks were looking ready.

Nate just weighed in at 160.

Welcome back homie

Dumb ************ sits out complaining about what he gets paid.....just to hand over 20% of his purse upon return.
