The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Just a theory, but since the UFC pays pretty low to the average fighter, I think guys are willing to take these chances. Even if they started handing out severe punishments, I honestly think guys are still going to use. Don't know though, I think it's a tricky and deep dynamic

Still trying to finish the MMA Hour with Ariel, such a great show this week

When fighters are asked about the number of guys on PED's the figure they come up with is usually 60-70%.

I thought that was OD initially but maybe it really is the case.

Frankie and Faber in Manilla apparently.

First time ever that Frankie will be the bigger guy

Interesting fight and tbh both men have been said to walk around at 155. I actually think they're pretty similar in size

With a win either guy should be in line for a title shot, Faber can drop back down for a 135 shot (would be interesting if TJ is still champ) and Frankie should finally get another crack at 145. If Faber happens to win (which IMO is a long shot) that would also make way for the winner of Mendes/Lamas as the #1 contender fight

Why didn't they match Frankie with Lamas though which could have been the #1 contender fight? That would have made more sense than Mendes/Lamas which was announced on Jan. 18. Oh well

Also, can someone school me on commissions? I feel like all these positive tests are coming out of Nevada. I don't recall fighters getting popped when they've fought in other cities.. is there a reason for this? Does Nevada have stricter testing or what.. I feel like fighting in Vegas is a trap

The last guy I remember testing positive for something outside of Nevada is Chael, when he fought Anderson for the first time in Oakland

Last guy I can think of is that Russian fighter that fought Mighty Mouse in Canada when more than half the arena left before/during the fight. But more fighters get popped in Nevada because most fights are there and they have the most amount of tests. Except for Nevada I don't think any other states do out of competition testing, and most just do urine tests which are easier to beat. When Jones fought Glover in Maryland, Jones asked the commission for random testing it was UFC that had to foot the bill because most commissions have limited drug testing budgets.

Good stuff

So when has the UFC did their own testing? Besides the Jones/Glover fight? I thought the UFC was supposed to be putting more money into their testing

No more urine tests, get the blood!

The Maryland commission did the testing for Jones/Glover. UFC just paid for the testing instead of it coming out of the state's budget.

UFC handles testing when they go to Australia, China, etc, places where they don't have their own commission or do drug testing. It was UFC that did testing that busted Big Foot for testosterone after the Hunt fight in Australia.

UFC were planning to do their own out of competition testing, but then the Cung Le issue happened and the scrapped all plans for it and said they would give more money to the commissions for testing.

Theres a lot of rumors about why they really dropped the plan for out of competition testing. Supposedly they announced plans for dropping it right after they got news of Jones' results. And others say they sent anonymous samples to USADA to conduct baseline testing and around 70% of the tests came back dirty so they dropped plans to start the testing. Thats why I wondered if fans really cared about PEDS in UFC. It sucks when fighters are popped but if all testing was stopped and we never knew if someone was clean or dirty would a majority of fans really care. Fighters in Pride were juicing but no one cared.

I've been puzzled by what they are doing with Edgar.

But given their struggles to put together marquee match ups....at ANY weight....this would actually make sense now.

Both have had storied careers.

Anyone worth fighting at 145 is tied up so it kinda makes sense.

They could have done Mendes/Edgar. I'm trying to understand why they didn't before announcing Mendes/Lamas.

But this fight might be more of a draw. Chad's biggest claim to fame is losing a close fight to Aldo.

Where these guys are both former champs who've consistently fought on the big stage.

I low key think they're putting aside an Aldo/McGregor rematch already.

So all these dudes fight in the next few months. If Edgar and Mendes both win, then they fight each other for the FW belt after Aldo/McGregor go twice.

Interesting. Yeah I always knew the UFC handled stuff anywhere outside of the U.S. that didn't have commissions. Who knows what goes on in Brazil though

tbh, Frankie don't deserve that. Man, that would kill me and I'm not even a Frankie fan

i think they just got manila done. Lamas/Mendes been booked for over a month and half now.

There's been talks of Faber/Edgar for a while now and they are two of the bigger names so it makes sense.

I think Frankie will get the decision and hope he gets the next crack at the title. If McGregor wins it would be awesome to see Frankie work him

They announced Mendes/Lamas right around the time of McGregor/Siver.

So there was a CHANCE McGregor could lose that fight. At which point Edgar would get Aldo.

But since McGregor won, as we all expected, what I'm saying is they could have waited until the McGregor W was official.

And just booked Mendes/Edgar after that.

Something just seems a bit off about how they handled all this.

Unless it's just about making the most "marquee" matchup they can and them believing that Edgar/Faber>Edgar/Mendes.

They could have done Mendes/Edgar. I'm trying to understand why they didn't before announcing Mendes/Lamas.

Just a theory. Business is business.

Reports about Mendes/Lamas came out the day before McGregor fought Siver. Thats why a lot of people were asking why they didn't wait until after the McGregor fight and then decide what to do.

Kinda wish they would've done DC vs Gus but DC gets Bader next.

Rashad out for another 6-7 months cause his knee rejected the cadaver ACL.

The Brazilian commission is sketchy. The commission's medical director Marcio Tannure is the personal doctor and friend of Anderson Silva, he's the same guy the Bigfoot Silva blamed for giving him too much testosterone in a shot that caused his suspension, and supposedly he's friends with other Brazilian fighters and was the one that got Belfort on TRT. Thats why Mendes and others claimed that Aldo and other Brazilians were taking PEDs and the commission was helping covering up the results.

I think Frankie ***** up anybody 145 lbs or below not named Jose Aldo. Including McGregor. Urijah is gonna get washed. Frankie is better at everything, better boxing, better takedowns. Faber might hit harder, but not hard enough to make a difference.

That's rough for Rashad.

Since his lay off his teammate has risen to the top of the heap at 205 and 185 has become a murders row.

As a former champion it would be nice to think that he's earned enough money at this point to retire into the FOX gig if need be.

Anyone else think Yoel Romero snd Jacare both on the juice and postponed their fight to have more time to cycle off?

Agreed. He needs to just ride with Rumble to a possible 205 belt.

Seems to have a good thing going with the gym in FL. TV gig. He should be good.

Cormier vs. Bader June 6 in NO.
