The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Anybody else not feeling the UFC calling this a unification fight? I don't think they understand the premise of a title unification match considering if Aldo wins he won't retain his title and become the interim champ as well.

Unify = become 1

There are currently 2 belts

After this fight there will be 1

Also I'm not consigning the UFC making McGregor vs Mendes a interim championship match

Aldo is the real champ just like Jon Jones is the real champ

Confirmed: The Frankie Edgar vs Chad Mendes fight will take place in the smaller, 25 foot cage. Don't get mad at me G Money, just relaying the message

I hope the Paige and Sage card use the small cage too

Chad brought the smaller cage in for his training camp. Advantage to Chad fighting in a smaller space

Aldo's training partner speaks... Aldo's camp probably won't like this, might find dude's body floating back to the Netherlands

"To be honest, yeah I think. Yeah, I think so [Aldo will retire]," Souwer told MMA Plus.

Souwer believes that a complicated relationship between Aldo and the UFC brass might contribute to his decision to retire, especially after the featherweight champion pulled out from a UFC 189 clash with McGregor due to a rib injury.

"So I think he's done with it. And ready. I will agree," Souwer said. "Whatever he is thinking, it's his decision. But I think it will be good for him."

Heading into what could be the last fight of his mixed martial arts career, Aldo is different than his previous training camps, Souwer says.

"The training was hard but fun, I never saw him like this before," said the Dutch. "Because I always saw him a little bit, almost stubborn, but this time I don’t know what happened he has a big smile. Almost every fight, every preparation that I help him, he is always in the first two rounds, he is okay, he’s good, then slows down, we also could see that in his fights, but for now six rounds, six minutes, he’s ******* the guys up."

"Jose Aldo is the pound-for-pound fighter in this weight class and he will succeed this time also," Souwer said. "It will be a fairytale story of course, but I’ll go for it."

He didn't really say anything negative tho.

And I can def see Aldo considering retirement with a win. I don't see him wanting to do a super fight with Dos Anjos. If Cerrone wins then maybe that's an option though. Rematches with Frankie Chad or Conor might not motivate him, plus he's up there in ring years and any one of those fights would probably be grueling. If he beats Conor he basically has nothing left to prove.

Pretty awesome to see he has been bringing Souwer in for his camps.

Not at all surprised that there are issues between him and Dana (let's be honest, the Ferttitas don't care). He may have screwed things up having to pull out of the last fight, but the UFC has progressively gone the way of only caring about their most marketable fighters. They're giving McGregor the Rousey treatment and I can't wait for it to blow up in their faces. McGregor is blowing money left and right while talking publicly about the pay everybody gets. The UFC traditionally doesn't like that and would normally be "punishing" that kind of behavior (think Kennedy). Not only are they letting it slide, they're putting videos out there of McGregor riding with Dana in his Ferraris and hanging out in Vegas. Doesn't bode well for public opinion that there won't be any funny business when McGregor gets Rousey'ed. Then again, maybe the UFC will use that opportunity to release a line of McGregor protein shakes to pair with Rousey apple sauce.

People keep sleeping on Weidman  what more does he have to do to get people's respect

"Join the team" :pimp:

Rockhold saying he's going to throw Weidman around makes me chuckle. Like, if that actually happens it'll be as impressive as actually winning the fight

Frankie just isn't mean enough to demand a title shot. That's why you stay getting skipped over buddy

Even if he beats Mendes, Edgar would prefer to stay active rather than put his career on hold.

“I’m not looking past Dec. 11. Until Dec. 11th is over, that’s also when I’ll be thinking about the next fight,” Edgar said. “But you now I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t plan on waiting. I don’t think I’ll be fighting lesser competition. I don’t think there’s any less competition in our division. I think all the guys are kind of hammers right now. So, you know, any fight’s going to be a tough fight at this point in my career.”
