The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Pettis has already destroyed Cowboy, Benson and now Gil. Jesus

It would be nice to see him take care of Khabib, Nate Diaz/RDA to officially clear out the division. Until then, unless Aldo moves up Pettis has business to attend to at 155.

I never would have thought Gilbert could be finished. Pettis continues to flourish..

I said TKO, Pettis went with the choke.... Still, first man to finish Gil :smokin

Robbie fought, Johny stalled, simple as that. Coming from a huge Bigg Rigg fan, I had that one for Ruthless on the scorecards. Happy to see him finally get that gold.

As far as this Phil Brooks stuff goes, it is spectacle, not sport. There isn't a human being signed to the UFC roster that Punk could beat in an MMA fight.

couple thoughts on the fights tonight

Todd Duffee might be the scariest HW not named Cain, way dude was throwing them hands, explosive athlete. and after a 2 year layoff he didn't look like he missed a beat

Browne vs Hunt or winner of Dos Santos/Miocic sounds good, he needs a couple impressive wins to get a shot

Pettis might be the best striker in mma.

So good to see Lawler come all the way full circle, still remember watching him fight back in the dark days, the first time they aired a fight on cable tv was his, in them best damn sports show. days.

Hope he beats McDonalds overrated *** again, then hopefully him vs Hendricks trilogy

and CM punk....

don't know what to make of that

I'm really happy Duffee won but let's slow down. How is he more scary than Browne, JDS or even Hunt?

Khabib keeps saying Pettis is scared of him. If Dana grants Khabib the shot at Pettis, we're in for a hug fest like no other. Khabib was in Vegas last night campaigning for the fight. He was already pointing out that Gilbert had controlled Pettis to start the fight and Khabib promised that his wrestling and top control was on another level. Khabib is an animal and will no doubt take Pettis down plenty. I hope and pray that Khabib doesn't become champ though, I really don't get down with his tactics.

Khabib said he will be ready to fight in April. Let's do this

I do hope the UFC doesn't put Cowboy ahead of Khabib and the winner of RDA/Diaz. Cowboy got destroyed by RDA and Diaz, Khabib then dominated RDA.

I have a feeling they will be looking at Cowboy if he dominates Jury. Though Cowboy did go on an impressive streak after losing to RDA and Diaz, it wouldn't justify being first in line IMO.

The winner of RDA/Diaz should also be ahead of Cowboy for sure

I agree that if RDA wins he should be ahead of Cerrone but I can't put Diaz ahead of him. Yeah he beat Cerrone but that was years ago. Not sure I'd put Diaz ahead of Barboza, Jury, Thomson, or Bendo if he beats RDA.

So it looks like cm punk signed a multi foght deal...mmhh wonder is Brock is itching to come back after wrestle mania

If Diaz got by RDA, he would definitely be ahead of Barboza and Jury.

Come on, what has Barboza or Jury done? Thomson is in limbo after two tough split losses, Bendo has a huge fight with Alvarez so we'll see what happens.

RDA right now, is arguably the #1 contender. After KO'ing Maynard and getting by RDA, Diaz would definitely be ahead of Barboza, Jury.

If Bendo won, it would make things pretty interesting. Things will clear up soon though, especially after the RDA/Diaz fight.

Pettis continuing to finish people who don't get finished.

I thought hendricks won but not mad Lawler got the belt. I don't think getting your takedowns stuffed and holding on to your opponent instead should automatically score you more points than your opponent. Hate that aspect of octagon / cage control.

I have no issues at all with Robbie getting the nod. Hendricks definitely strung together some nice combos and "controlled" Robbie, but he also definitely turtled up with way too much time left in the 4th and 5th rounds. Robbie walked through all of Hendricks' combos. Close fight regardless. The initial reaction from the other UFC fighters was that it was a robbery. Don't think that's the case at all.

Hendricks himself didn't make a case for himself to win that fight. He sounded defeated and accepting of his L

I just didn't understand why Robbie refused to throw while in the middle of the cage in the 3rd round .

Robbie also stopped the body attack that he started with early in the 1st.

Hendricks went full on GSP, except he couldn't control and take Robbie down.

It seemed like Hendricks is throwing his punches with a half clenche fist. He had no sting at all on his punches. Looked like amateur boxing slapping and pity
Pat

So Glad for the lawler win.

Did Robbie not check those leg kicks or throw many legkicks himself because he was cautious of takedowns? All those kicks did good damage on his right leg.

Hendricks got robbed imo.

Robbie won the first and last minute of the fight. The rest of the time he was getting out worked or controlled.

I had it even after 2, Hendricks dominated 3 , and 4 & 5 I gave to Robbie bc how he escaped the take down to pound Hendricks each round late

I just wish something could be done about stalling. Hendricks putting his head between Lawler's legs up against the fence for several minutes every other round should not count as "control". Nobody wants to see that bull ****. Lorenzo and Dana said it after the fight so they should do something about it but they won't

Something needs to be changed with the entire concept of a fighter controlling or having octagon control. How it's defined now is way too broad. Stalling, trapping a guy against the fence, laying on someone should not count as control if they aren't actually putting their opponent in any type of danger.

With all of that said, Hendricks did hit Lawler with a lot of different combos. Not disputing that.

I wanted Robbie to win bad and i'm not seeing it

His body language during the interview was indicative of someone who had been gifted a decision. Oh well its done.

I thought the big PPV announcement was going to be the return of the GSP but i was way off |I

I gave Lawler rounds 1 & 5. I gave Hendricks 2 & 3. I can see round four possibly be contentious.

I think Lawler's problem is he just looked tentative during rounds 2 until the last two minutes of round 4. It's the same thing that cost him the first fight.

And I wish people would stop comparing Hendricks to GSP. I'm not disputing the volume of Hendricks jabs or leg kicks during rounds 2-4, which probably won him the fight. I think it was horrible grabs and pushing against the fence while doing nothing. Also, Lawler did manage to snuff most of his takedowns.

GSP would control you on the ground and standing up with his takedowns, GnP and then standing up with his jabs. He wasn't flashy and didn't have many stoppages after he got the title the second time but you can't deny that he dominated the WW division.

I don't see that from McDonald, Lawler or Hendricks.

And Pettis is a beast. I was a little worried in the first round with Gil's takedown/wrestling and pressure. At fit should've been the main event.
