The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Dammit man. The worst part is they spent way too much money on the promotion to let Aldo drop out unless he absolutely cannot go, so they're probably gonna put insane pressure on him to fight on the 11th. So basically we'd get an injured Aldo vs. McGregor. It'd be ******* terrible if that's how he ended up losing the belt. For his own sake I hope he pulls out and forces them to reschedule a couple months later.

EDIT: He's confirmed with a fractured rib, so that July 11th fight is as good as done. There's no way he's fighting at this point.

Depending if Chad or Frankie is in shape, Dana could offer Conor a BOAT LOAD of cash to still fight.. I think Conor would do it

I can see that happening, especially if it was a huge amount (for MMA standards), like a mil or so at least. He'd basically be exchanging a huge payday for his title shot, and even though both of those dudes have a good chance of giving him the business and knocking him out of contention, he has the benefit of a full camp and they're at the disadvantage coming in on short notice. Probably a bet worth taking if he really believes in his abilities like he claims he does, but alot more dangerous for Frankie or Chad I would think.

I feel like the Aldo matchup is more beneficial to Connor. But on the other hand, if he tinks about it, it would shut up all the he's never fought a competent wrestler out criers.

As far as rankings go, I don't put any stock in them.

I don't think Conor cares who he fights honestly. I believe his confidence is genuine.

Problem is, THAT fight, between Conor and Aldo, was the UFC's money fight.

I don't think Conor against either Edgar or Mendes does the #'s. And IF he loses, no fight after does the #s either.

Tough spot for them right now.

I think so as well and I don't even dislike the dude it's just that Aldo is my favorite fighter so I'm not pulling for Connor against him.

I also think Frankie or Chad would beat him but you never know.

News broke on Wednesday that the Nova Uniao star broke his rib during a sparring session in Rio de Janeiro for his July 11 bout with Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. Despite the injury, "Scarface" still plans on fighting "The Notorious."

"He cried. He wants this fight bad, everybody invested a lot in this," Nova Uniao head coach Andre Pederneiras told Combate. "I was with him the whole afternoon. He’s heartbroken. He wants to fight anyway. Now we have to wait for the exam results. Aldo is in deep pain."

Sources close to the situation told MMA Fighting that Aldo fractured his rib while training with 5-0 lightweight Alcides Nunes, and Pederneiras won’t make the decision to take Aldo from the card before talking with his doctors on Wednesday.

"If the fracture is really confirmed, Aldo will have to stop training, do nothing for three or four weeks until it’s fixed, and then he would be able to do any exercise without forcing his rib," the coach said. "And then he would need a normal time to do a training camp: three months. I believe this fight wouldn’t happen before October."

I like Faber, but especially on short notice, he has a good chance of just being a showcase match for Connor. He might get KO'd in there.

"I threw a kick but slipped with all the sweat on the mat, and ended up hitting his rib," Nunes told MMAFighting.com. "I was mimicking McGregor’s unorthodox style, things he does in the fight. I’m also left-handed, my style is similar to his, so that’s why they asked me to be part of his camp, but I ended up slipping and causing this injury."

Nunes, who started training at Nova Uniao three years ago and is undefeated in MMA with four finishes in five professional bouts, reveals that Aldo continued to train after he got hit, but eventually stopped and was rushed to the hospital.

"He finished the round, and then decided to stop," Nunes said. "I’m sure he would continue to train if he could. He’s a warrior and was really well prepared for this fight."

Conor will want to fight regardless, son been putting in work for months and he's getting a cut of the ppv buys. He's all about his paper so he wont want to miss out on a pay day.

Frankie is the best bet for a replacement imo.

Highly ranked, big name, offers that wrestling threat but doesn't hit hard and isn't as explosive as Chad.

If Conor goes in there and gives him the business it cements him as a legit contender.

Whether Frankie would take it on short notice like that is another thing.

so if it's Frankie, would it a situation similar to Cain? or just a straight up non title fight to see who gets the next title shot?

They shouldn't interim because Aldo has been active and wont be out for long.

But to give the fight some added significance they might pull some ****
