The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

I am rooting for Rockhold simply because I would like to see Weidman get a fresh challenge (I don't think Vitor dethrones)

Machida could easily win this though with his weird footwork and counter striking. It's interesting to hear about how much (in the media) Rockhold's ground game is more advanced than Lyoto's. I didn't realize Rockhold was held in such a high regard in terms of grappling, Lyoto is a black belt himself

In the preview show Lyoto's coaching said they're working on defensive BJJ just to not get tapped by Rockhold. Took me by surprise

Rockhold got that knarly jits.

The way he locked up Boetsch off a takedown attempt was wild.

Yeah, Rockhold talked about it on the MMA Hour once. He says he likes to practically apply BJJ and demonstrated it in his Bisping win.

His issue is going to be Machida's elusiveness. Javier Mendez said there's a strategy, we'll see if it's a solid pressure game ala Weidman/RDA.

Machida isn't a crazy on the fly tactician a la F Mayweather. But they are similar in certain ways.

Also Connor with his inflammatory Mayweather comments.

The boxer vs MMA fighter thing will always be entertaining. In a regular fight, with relatively close weight for each opponent, I just don't see the boxer surviving, don't care if it's Floyd or whoever. Boxers obviously aren't going to admit it

I just took it as Connor running his mouth. Floyd is not checking for dude at all. Way out his tax bracket and gate revenue.

At the moment, there isn't an MMA fighter even close. The closest (yet far away) were GSP and Brock. May 2nd is going to be crazy.

Also, the MMA beat pretty much parroted my game plan on how Rockhold has to beat Machida. Constant pressure and solid, accurate pressure in order to not give Machida space in order to enact his usual game plan.

Exactly, MMA fighters don't make a fraction of the money a lot of boxers do so there's ZERO reason for boxers to ever step up in a real competition with an MMA fighter. There's no reason for them to even respond but out of pride they will never admit an MMA fighter would take them

But that wasn't Conor's point

Conor runs his mouth for sure though, nothing is off limits to the guy

It's asinine. I'm not taking anything away from MMA. A kick boxer, wrestler, BJJ practitioner, Judo, etc are going to want to become professional MMA fighters since there's no money or big professional leagues/competitions for those martial arts.

There's huge money in boxing. Floyd is a boxer. He specializes and excels at it. Golden Glove, Olympian and World Champion. Dude is going to make $180 Million on his next fight. Dude probably doesn't have Fertita money but he's in another stratosphere than the UFC.

Connor is just trying to make buzz. Floyd is the A Side so if Connor were going to face him, he'd have to do so with just his hands where Floyd would take him apart.

I understand that most mma fighters would beat a boxer in a regular fight but its becoming tiresome with UFC fighters always talking about Mayweather. First Silva and Mayweather had that little beef with Silva calling him a smurf. Then Rousey and now Conor saying they'd beat Mayweather. Now Dana is talking about how Paige and every single fighter on the UFC roster would beat him.

The entire Boxing vs. MMA debate is tiresome. Yet another hypothetical that we will not see realitically resolved. What's the point?

Funny that it's coming from a guy who isn't exactly known for his grappling.

If he thinks he's going to stand with Floyd and wash him in 30 seconds, that seems a bit far fetched to me.

Ronda is an ELITE grappler, which maybe made that conversation more interesting.

This is just silly. Conor looking for attention.

Eh, I'd still take Conor's grappling (whatever level he may be at) in an MMA fight over anything Floyd could muster

It isn't fair to compare a boxer to an MMA fighter so it is a pointless convo

Do you know how many suits you could buy with a Mayweather fight purse??

Conor would fight him in straight boxing if he could bank 30 mill.

looking foward to the herrig van fight tbh lol
The women seem like they want to throw down.

Experience versus ugh marketability and youth.

Paige has a great camp/team. But she really doesn't have experience or fought high level opponents (but then again, this division seems thinner than 135).

The potential to be an Alpha Female is there if she's been putting in the work. I'd be soaking in the wrestling from Mendes, grappling from Uriah and striking/movement of Dillashaw.

Machida by decision
jacare by tko first round
max by decision
pvz by decision.

Exciting Card. Watching start to finish. Fight pass prelims and all.

Hyped for Swanson/Holloway.

Would be a much tougher loss for Cub to take than Max, so I'm kind of pulling for Cub.

Fan of both though.

OSP definitely highlighted some holes in his game.

He was throwing some punches with 0 technique. He also wasn't really able to effectively stuff Cumming's take downs.

And the top LHW guys are either going to exploit his poor wrestling or poor striking technique.

He's trying to position for the Aug 8 Tenn card.
