Pettis has always faced the toughest in the division. ufc hasn't been protecting him. He even finishes fighters who don't get finished. I think he's very well rounded. He's pretty good with subs and his wrestling is still getting better training with askren. No one expected rda to be this good. He didn't even flinch at strikes that have dropped other fighters.

Aldo is also arguably the best wrestler, BJJ, and grappler in the division as well....dude thats what a complete fighter is, pettis is faaaaaaar from complete

Aldo aint lost in 10 years thooooo, name some one active in MMA, let alone the UFC who has a longer run....

aldo running the fw division has no bearing on how he would do against pettis

pettis is one of the smallest (muscle wise) guys at LW and hes bigger than aldo

so what if pettis got "exposed", everyone knows aldo's capable of gassing

pettis is capable of doing pretty much everything aldo can in the stand up
 
In the gil fight, pettis lost the first round and was losing the 2nd until the sub presented itself and he capitalized.......similar situation as the mcgregor mendes fight (we know mcgregor can be taken down and held)

if you push pettis back or get him against the cage, and keep shooting he cannot stop the takedown.

He has decent boxing but no crazy power in his hands, doods aren't afraid to stand in the pocket and trade shots with pettis (aldo on the other hand will KO you with eithe hand, he's done it multiple times, pettis does not have a boxing KO in the UFC) , its his range and kicks that are his TRUE weapon, if you allow him to keep you on the outside and pick you apart you gonna loose that battle 9/10

but if close the distance, stand in the pocket, grapple, wrestle and neutralize his range......he doesnt have much for you, hes just not dangerous if he's not standing and out the outside.

RDA was seconds away from subbing him in the 5th, fight was 49-46 right? Some of those rounds were bad 10-8

pettis was figured out in the Gil fight (HIS FIRST DEFENSE) RDA and Rafael conjured and executed a perfect gameplan.....same with Holm and Jackson/Wink

Now you look at a champ like Jones or MM, who dominates you....wherever the fight goes, theres really no gameplan for guys like this....you gotta kinda just try and KO or outwill these guys

Every fighter or educated fan will tell you getting KO'd happens, its a part of the sport it can happen to anyone, now being dominated........only a select few fighters DOMINATE their opponents and these are the true longstanding champs.

+ pettis is a TRUE 55'er he prolly walk around 160-175...aldo walk around 170 as well......

With all that **** being said, Im interested to see what kind of run Robbie is going to have....big fight against Los coming up...rooting for both guys....wouldn't be surprised if we see Los execute another masterful gameplan by Jackson/Wink....these guys are cooking down there in ABQ

Haha pettis didn't lose any round against gil, just cuz gil held him against the cage? Go watch the fight in slow mo, he tags gil in every exchange they had, hurt him in the 2nd too, gil nearly went down

have you heard of it? Ever seen a Khabib or Frankie fight?

I just re-watched the first round, gil took pettis down 3 times and had control for 80% of the round, cmon dood

Im not even trying to bash pettis I like pettis, but I can call a spade a spade
 
I mean, Pettis isn't a knockout artist. There's no reason to pick at that as such a big negative compared to what else he brings to the table

I still am not sure why he's being so harshly critiqued but ill wait for the Eddie fight to say anything else. Pettis' resume speaks for itself. Khabib and rda the only ones I see handling Pettis. Aldo Pettis would be a great match

I think he is a knockout artist tho, just not with the hands....I believe he has the most kick ko's in the ufc

First rda hasnt looked human in his last couple of fights. The guy literally looks like a machine in there.

Pettis has probably some of the best striking in mma. In a striking match against aldo ill take pettis. Really fun match up tho.

Aldo only walks around at 170lbs? With the difficulty of his cuts i would think he walks around a lot heavier

I would think Aldo was lighter tbh. Because I know that's what Conor walks around at and he's noticeably bigger imo

Good point, the discussion was more so on standing in the pocket. Dude was saying guys aren't afraid to stand in the pocket with Pettis and that he didn't have much power with his "OK" boxing while if you did that with Aldo you will get KO'd "with either hand"

The only problem with that statement is, since Aldo came to the UFC in 2011, literally every opponent has stood in the pocket with him and there hasn't been a KO. Aldo hasn't had a stand and trade KO since 2010 which was in the WEC. Aldo did stop Mendes with a knee but was off a scramble. Guys don't seem to be afraid to stand in the pocket with Aldo either
 
Aldo is just technical all around, he doesn't need KO power to win. He's much smarter than that.

Those leg kicks really are no joke. You take a few of those in the first round and you're gonna be in trouble for the rest of the fight.

Absolutely. I was just addressing that particular point

By no means should Aldo be harshly criticized just like Pettis shouldn't be. Would be a great fight, like I said before
 
Pettis kicks people in the ribs and they usually go down or are messed up except for t1000 rda.

Yup and I feel like aldo became just that, a pocket puncher. He was at his best using knees, kicks, mixing it up, throwing flying switch knees. He needs to do that against connor
