The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

I'd prefer a clean MMA world over a "whatever" one.

Don't care if basketball players are on steroids. Don't care if baseball players are on steroids. Football... nah, they can't be doing PEDs either.

Any sport where contact is an integral facet of the game, then yeah, we need to clean it up.

Not trying to see someone spinning wheel kick a guy into Bolivian.

Looks like GSP is preparing for a comeback, officially began the process with USADA

He had a lot to say in this interview about Nick Diaz, McGregor vs Nate etc.

He said he would beat Nick worse in a rematch and that Conor is the more skilled fighter than Nate. He said that Conor prepared for a 400 meter race and in the end it was an 800 meter race, that Nate is perhaps more mentally tough than Conor

remember reading an article where he said he would never do mma. most of the guys in there dont respek one another and have no moral values. doesn't like the sport one bit and has zero interest
the french judo federation bans coaches from getting involved in mma and would ban them from judo if they did that

this preview to the cyborg documentary that is coming out is crazy. the extremes she goes through to make weight.

roided out or not, someone is getting hurt if they get "caught"

If a weight cut is that bad then maybe she shouldn't fight at 140 anymore. Just stay at 145.

I read an article last week where thiago alves was talking about how he would be constantly puking and not being able to get out of bed when he would cut to 170. It was the same way when he fought gsp for the title. His sports psycholigist saw it and asked him how often he would be that sick and he said every time he cut weight for a fight. His team and coaches should've helped him find a better way. That's just ridiculous. It didn't help that he carried around so much muscle back then.

Thiago was definitely on something back in the day. Dude was looking like a mini-hulk on his title run and now he's about to make 155 :smh:

There's no 145 division in the UFC.

To the casual Cyborg will never be marketable and there really aren't any big names in womens 145 in the other orgs.

It really feels like lots of these guys want that belt but then are going for the money fights when they aren't even names, ie woodley and alvarez. Really hope they force guys to fight the contenders at their weight classes but can't lie I'll watch a fight like Bisping Henderson for the entertainment value.

Actually I believe if the UFC got behind anyone with half her talent and dominance, he or she could become very marketable and a star

They just don't have a division, hell 135 was crap when it first started for females. It just takes a little luck for weight classes to develop. They made Ronda a star, Holly and Tate to an extent. No reason Cyborg couldn't be as big as them

Too bad for her. There's no 140 division either and she can't make 135. She'll have to lose some muscle or just stay in invicta.

Weight cutting wouldn't be so hard if she didn't jump on gear when she did. Roids didn't do her any favors with her weight cutting, especially now that she has that heavy hormone jaw/block head.

I don't even know why some of these fighters get so swole. Build up functional strength instead of hulking out. Besides woodley, what other champs are there that are swole? Most look normal or are lanky.

Alvarez is pretty big for his weight class, but I agree with you. There is a need for functional weightlifting as a fighter, but not body building.

The UFC signing Cyborg is stupid to me if they never planned on opening a 145 division. Everyone knew she couldn't make 135 so now she's fighting all these useless fights against these 135ers that are looking for a payday and are willing to go to a catchweight of 140 to do so.

I'm gonna also say Cyborg is stupid for signing with the UFC if they didn't promise to open up 145 for her. I guess money talks

I refuse to believe that someone can't lose an additional 5 lbs and still be healthy. Your body will adapt to it. It's not like she looks malnourished.

That's a cop out on her part.

And for the men if you have to cut so much damn weight for the weigh in why don't you just fight at your natural weight?

The weight classes in combat sports are just absurd. 5 and 10 lb differences. Same in boxing. If you can't whip someone's *** because they weigh TEN FREAKING POUNDS more than you then you aren't as good as you think you are.

There should be a rule where your walking weight should fall within 10% of your fight weight

So 155 could only cut 15.5pbs
170 could only cut 17lbs
Etc

An extra 10 pounds of muscle can make a hell of a difference man, especially at the lower weight classes.

It can be overcome if you've got the skills or you match up well stylewise, but it's definitely not something to just scoff at

Could've sworn this was being discussed and they weigh-in procedures did change.

UFC should make like the WBC and have 30 day and 7 day weigh-ins. It would help some but not eliminate all issues. I think you'd have folks like Roidborg cutting weight for those weigh-ins too.

How is cyborg stupid? Lol

As you said money talks. She's still with invicta too I believe, so she can switch back and forth as needed
