The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

I personally have no issue with Jones' persona nor his transgressions. I understand why folks don't like him but to me he really hasn't done anything that bad and yeah he's corny... big deal. He's starting to figure out how to make it work IMO. In the end his ability trumps all anyway.

Funny how people look for anything to hate about regarding Jon Jones.
He's making it easy. The average MMA fan isn't going to accept the bravado. Coupled with his past DWI incident, I believe in his Bentley with women that weren't his wife.
Lets keep it #1HUNNA too though.

No race thread, but to a large portion of MMA fans, Jones is the wrong skin color to be acting this way.
Fair point.

Chael did similar shenanigans going into his fights and was lauded for the most part.

Unlike Chael, Bones has backed up his bravado in the octagon so far.

The fight with DC should be fun.

Well you'd no more about MMA and UFC then I do, I'm not really a fan of this sport but I only watch when it's a really big fight. But I do see the wild and crazy fighters with the big hair, wild tattoos, in your face types that are waaaaay more douche-like then Jones but seem to fly under the radar and be more accepted. I even read his Instagram feed and you'd swear this guy is the worst sports figure ever.

Just my take.

The UFC finally turned into the WWE. Damn, are ratings getting bad or something?
So many things wrong with this post

If you're not a fan of the sport, which is apparent by this silly post, why would you bother coming in to post here? Keep in mind I am not telling you not to post I'm just wondering

If we want to talk about things getting bad, take a look at the WWE's financials...

On the Jones hate, the dude's ring skills are otherworldly. I know that and respect that. I just hate that he will post like a 10 year old on Instagram then flex for a crowd after he brawls and then show up on ESPN like he has a PR person in his ear.

Pick a side and run with it, the sport will be better for it.

I'm a fan of MMA, not a fan of staging a "brawl" at media day to try to generate hype because the declining TV ratings and Pay-Per-View numbers. Jones has always been a nice guy and all of a sudden he's a "heel". I just can't-

I think it will still be a good fight though, I'm just gonna stay away from the media and the "storylines".

Just checkin bro... I mean when's the last time this has happened? DC and Jones saw that ****** substitute teacher they had in there for Dana White and decided they were going to act up. I don't think this has anything to do with ratings or the WWE, just two dudes who really don't like each other.

Chael is one of my least-liked fighters in MMA history. Fighting style and personality wise. But Sonnen did well to sell himself into title fights he didn't deserve or belong in. Also kudos for taking bouts on short notice, to save cards.

Appreciate your post. Delving in deeper, another issue many MMA fans seem to have with Bones is authenticity. He comes off fraudulent at times, and DC is hammering that point home at the pressers. Jon Jones wants to be well-liked. I believe he tries to do the right thing, almost to a fault. Instead of just being himself and letting some individual personality shine through. Had the fortune of witnessing Jones' apparent growth live leading up, during, and after UFC 172 in Baltimore. Intensely focused, humble, charismatic. Paid proper respect to Glover and Brasilian fight fans. Almost felt like the Gus experience humbled Bones. Maybe it's something about Cormier that brings out the worst in Jon Jones. He's rearing an ugly head again.

Pretty much agree with everything said here. I'm not surprised Cormier would get under his skin though. Video looks bad though. Jones definitely instigated the first contact and while Cormier pushed him back, which happens allllll the time at these things, Jones threw punches.

Either way, it was stupid.

I guess the plan was to have a media day in Vegas today and Los Angeles tomorrow. I wonder if they are going to stick to that plan after what happened today

Champ dropping knowledge as usual. Exactly how I feel about the situation.

And to anyone that thinks that was staged... :smh:

Respect, my man. Still headed to Foxwoods for Fight Night 50? Underrated card with Jacare/Mousasi, Reem, Lewis/Mitrione, J-Lau/Chiesa, Oliveira/Lentz, Moraga, Fili, Beal. NT mini-summit.

It is a hell of a card for that dump Foxwoods,

That situation is a damn mess. My buddy that I run my MMA blog with has a wedding that day and couldn't make it, so I didn't cop presale tix. Another friend that cares about the sport trains with Sapo and is convinced he will fall *** backwards into a free ticket.

We'll see, I'm tuned in to the StubHub market.

If you fail to get tix, check out Dana's, UFC's, or even Sholler's twitter. A lot of the time they give away signed memorabilia and tickets if you're in the area. They normally do it the day of or day before the event.

Thanks for the heads up. I planned on ducking out of work early that Thursday to head to the weigh-ins at least. Have tweeted with Sholler before actually, will have to keep it up.

KFlo is holding his own in an interview with Bones and DC right now. Throwing them both under the bus for brawling and picking at their arguments. Actual journalism going down on FS1.

just saw this and was wondering if it was legit or staged

i guess legit. relatively new to MMA and the UFC. can't wait for this one

Matt Hughes among other notable names were condemning Jones and DC. Very interesting reactions.

Rumble wasn't too happy about the brawl either...

Rumble in UFC today is completely different than the one that was in UFC before. Not just talking about in the ring, but outside of the ring. He sounds more mature. In the comments section he went on to say that if you were a Fortune 500 company would you want your athletes acting that way when they're supposed to be icons/pioneers of the sport/business.

I actually appreciate the big names speaking out against DC and Jones, just to keep things balanced

There are fights in every sport, there are melees during boxing media tours etc. I'm just glad this is all that happened and that nobody got hurt, especially the fans. It could have been a lot worse. But yeah, brawls are a part of sports, I can't remember the last time this kind of thing happened in the UFC, which is a great thing. So I'm not going to blow things out of proportion
