The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

I wonder if UFC goes back and makes changes to the 178 fights now. Make Cerrone v Alvarez and Green vs Masvidal again.

Update:  Alvarez signed with UFC and will face Cerrone at 178 as the co-main. Now Bobby Green is without an opponent and is likely off the card.

This was the right move but they should have just kept Masivdal and Green as originally was scheduled

Cowbo should have to face an opponent like Alvarez to get a title shot before Bendo and RDA

About damn time they get Eddie in the UFC! He was getting shafted over there at Bellator for years now.... Would like to see him get past Cowboy and Fight Benson Henderson for #1 contender should Bendo beat Dos Anjos.

The Alvarez moves helps out Bellator a lot. They're losing a big guy in Eddie, but it'll help them sign more fighters in the future. Bellator had the reputation of holding fighters hostage with their contracts so young fighters and some former UFC fighters (Rumble, Shields, Okami) were hesitant to sign with them and end up signing with WSOF.

I think Green vs Alvarez would have been the more interesting match up. From a name recognition stand point Cerrone makes more sense though.

Alvarez v Cowboy was much more logical to make than Green

This way, pretty much the winner will most likely get a title shot, unless Alvarez looks sluggish in a win and say Bendo looks dominant against RDA and Gil beats Pettis

But an Alvarez v Green matchup would have made little sense, and in terms of interest, I don't really see that either. Cowboy v Alvarez will be a nice scrap

Damn, that's a long contract. Do you know who's in line to face chandler for the title?
I'm assuming they do Brooks vs Chandler 2 next.

Not really sure what they're doing with the title. Eddie was the champ but then got injured, and Brooks beat Chandler and became the interim champ. So idk if they're just gonna make Brooks the champ, have a tournament to name a new champion, or just have Brooks and Chandler fight for the belt again.

bisping beats up on cung le this weekend in my opinion. maybe there's a flash knockout and i haven't seen the line yet but i would imagine bisping is a heavy favorite

They going to put Cruz on the prelims in September. Whoa
Thats something they're starting to do recently. I guess they're hoping if they have a big name on the prelims and its a good fight, it'll entice you to buy the actual ppv.

And some fighters and even their sponsors prefer them main eventing the prelims. A lot of the time, the prelims get more viewers than the actual ppv so you get a bigger audience to showcase for. And unless you're a big time star like Jones, Silva, GSP, etc you're not getting a share of the ppv so it doesn't really matter if they're on the main card.

Where's @ChampCruThik? Wanna hear his breakdown of the Alvarez/Cerrone fight.

Yeah, Cruz isn't mad at all. Faber wanted to be on the prelims recently.

Cerrone will have the reach advantage (73 to 69) and definitely has the advantage on the mat. I honestly give the slight edge to Cowboy being that it'll be Alvarez' first fight in the UFC, Cerrone usually takes advantage of having a the superior reach and outside of the Barboza fight where he started extremely slow, Cowboy has been on an absolute tear.

Seen Eddie go slump before against Chandler.. Cowboy is adept with kicks and his hands..

Expecting a great scrap though. Eddie got heart and sounds extremely hungry for the belt

Eddie gets rocked a lot in the 1st round. I think a few years ago he even admitted that before fights he always tells the refs that he always gets dropped in the 1st and to give him a chance cause he's not hurt.

^
Yeah, Alvarez gets dropped a lot. cerrone isn't heavy handed but he's obviously really dangerous with all his kicks. Hoping Eddie lands a few bombs like he usually does in the first round.

Cerrone aint heavy handed but he can string clean combos together with his hands for sure

Can't wait to see how Eddie measures up

regardless of who wins between cowboy and alvarez, i don't see either winning against the top 3-4 guys in that division. no chance.

Cowboy got destroyed by Pettis, Bendo twice, RDA and Nate Diaz. Destroyed. So I agree on Cowboy

Alvarez needs to show me something, I'll wait

True, it's starting to remind of Strikeforce a little bit, I like what he did back then as well.
So far Coker is doing good with Bellator. I liked Strikeforce back then too. People forget that a lot of top guys fought there. Fedor, Rousey, Werdum, Melendez, Jacare, Rockhold, etc. If Coker and his team have the same eye for talent and Viacom's money, they can start to compete with UFC and be a thorn in their sides in a few years.

I'll give Cowboy benefit of the doubt for now. He got crushed by the top guys but he said he's broke now so he's hungry. Maybe this Cowboy is motivated and ready for the top guys. He could be like MLB and NBA players that only play great and give it their all during the final year of their contracts cause they want more money the next year.

And if Alvarez wins I hope they don't give him a title shot. I'm thinking that may be a clause in his new contract guaranteeing him a title shot next if he wins his first fight. If he wins, give him Khabib when he's healthy. I know people love Alvarez but the competition in Bellator at that weight class wasn't the best. The only top fighter he faced recently was Chandler. And in my eyes I think Chandler won both fights.

I honestly don't know but was Cerrone broke against any of Pettis, RDA or even Diaz? I thought he was already broke when he lost to one of them...
