The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

not in mma they don't, takedowns all day, that's why u see fighters who come from mt, either get taken down at will or adapt it to an mma base
yes they do

the reason they use a thai stance in the first place is because it allows you to stop take downs. your hips are directly under you which allows you to sprawl. if you use a pure boxing stance your lead leg is not only vulnerable to single legs and hard to sprawl, but its also exposed to kicks. this is EXACTLY why the diaz brothers have so many problems with kicks and takedowns.

pettis trains with duke roufus, to call his fighting style TKD is crazy

its like saying gsp's fighting style is karate, it became thai under phil nurse
so just cuz they train in one aspect makes them that??? go ask gsp what his style is, he'll tell u shotokan karate all day

same with pettis

but they need to learn muay thai, wrestling, boxing to be good and well rounded in mma

GSP isnt shotokan...

he trained kyokushin karate is whole life before MMA.

yes kyukoshin im sorry had a few

and he himself has said that his karate is what made him a great wrestler, cuz of his ability to close distance

the style they take up eventually becomes thai, its just evolution

gsp in his finisher prime was definitely a thai style, i think of hughes gsp 3 when i think of this

in no way did it resemble karate

yeah, everyone ends up in a thai stance because its the most effective to throw kicks, check kicks, stop take down and shoot for them as well.

but the game is slooooowly changing. that TMA influence started with anderson.

u mean 2 and no he's nowhere a thai style, he would not be able to stuff or even attempt a decent takedown based of a "thai style"

thai style don't mean he's throwing kicks, knees...the context we all were talking about it was footwork/movement

thai stye is the worst to stop a takedown, u need to be knees bent, weight on back foot, not squared up

nobody in mma has a traditional thai style, its just an mma mix on thai

thiago alves doesnt have a traditional thai style but thats how i would refer to it

as for the fight, i thought eddie was gonna kil him in the clinch, like literally

Have you ever wrestled?

The first day they teach you to evenly distributed your weight and square your hips with your opponent. this is why it blends well with the thai stance.

youre talking to someone who been in MMA for 10 years+.

Dude, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Just stop.

You think people in MMA put their weight on their backfoot? LoL?

haha, what happens when they put their weight on front, leg kicks eat em up, easier to takedown

reason why thai guys stay light on front foot, is cuz they don't wanna eat kicks that will damage

Except if you put your weight on your back leg you CANT SPRAWL

are you watching the fight? Their shoulders are SQUARED to each other, backfoot is 45 degrees and lead leg pointed at opponent. This is a thai boxing stance.

if ur saying what i think ur saying, then we are on the same page, meaning traditional styles do not work in mma, u have to adapt it to the type of fighter u want to be
