The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

Yea he said it in an interview yesterday. I think it may have been to do when he got his dui or they postponed his fight
I don't think he used those exact words, did you get a quote? I remember him saying something to the effect where he was surprised the UFC used something as promo or something like that but I believe he just got a new contract with the UFC and they're probably paying him a ton of money
Nah he didn't say, I was just assuming it had to do something within 1 of those 2 topics, but that was just my guess.

He seemed pretty upset overall with the UFC tho.

Oh I saw that interview, I see what you're saying

It's a very layered dynamic between Jones and the UFC

I don't think he's upset with the UFC in black and white terms. In the interview he said himself that he is not bothered by the UFC's promotional and marketing techniques that paint Jones as the "bad guy". He did say he looks at the UFC differently, since UFC 151. He felt the UFC "turned on him" when the card got cancelled and they "weren't the family he thought they were"

The UFC did drag his name through the mud and muddy up his image

In the present though, he isn't as naive as he was before, he understands how the business works now. Originally Jones was upset about how the promotion for this fight portrayed him, but he sat back and thought about it and admitted it made for good T.V.

Besides that, he got a new contract from the UFC so I don't think he's really that upset with his employer he just understands that they aren't his friend or family

My Picks for the Main Card.

Cormier via Split Decision
Cerrone via Submission
Tavares via Unanimous Decision
Horiguchi via KO
Lombard via KO

Added Cannonier, TKO 1.

No play but: Dunham decision, Felder TKO 2, Burkman decision, Jury decision.

Least confident prediction is Tavares by decision.

I hate Jon Jones but I'm leaning towards him winning this fight. I just can't see Cormier touching him, unless we see a barao vs dillashaw round 1.

Only fighter I'm positive that will win is Lombard.

Jones just reupped his contract, how much does he get a fight?

Probably a decent amount. He's one of the higher draws. It's too bad he didn't wait until after this fight.

Honestly, GSP and Brock were the biggest draws in UFC history (as short as it is). They were probably making $200K-$450K a fight. All these other guys are making chump change. Lol at Nate Diaz.

One of the other issues standing in the way of it becoming mainstream is the low pay. You can technically make more money fake wrestling (though it's more brutal on the body), NBA, NFL, etc. It also doesn't help that the fighters are locked into fighting in one organization and UFC/reebok deal. Imagine if Jones could fight for Bellator/etc. Definitely isn't the boxing model.

Just to add to this, GSP and other top stars get a cut of the PPV as well

GSP and probably other top fighters make well over 400K per fight, how much exactly is up for debate
