The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

Probably a decent amount. He's one of the higher draws. It's too bad he didn't wait until after this fight.

Honestly, GSP and Brock were the biggest draws in UFC history (as short as it is). They were probably making $200K-$450K a fight. All these other guys are making chump change. Lol at Nate Diaz.

One of the other issues standing in the way of it becoming mainstream is the low pay. You can technically make more money fake wrestling (though it's more brutal on the body), NBA, NFL, etc. It also doesn't help that the fighters are locked into fighting in one organization and UFC/reebok deal. Imagine if Jones could fight for Bellator/etc. Definitely isn't the boxing model.
Just to add to this, GSP and other top stars get a cut of the PPV as well

GSP and probably other top fighters make well over 400K per fight, how much exactly is up for debate

And Mayweather is making $100 million a fight

My man is on to something. UFC isn't quite "honest" with the fighters purses. That Forbes article isn't based on any concrete data since it's all here say. And GSP and Brock are exceptions. You can be a champion and not be a draw (see Demetrious Johnson, Jose Aldo, Renan Barao, etc). The money isn't there. GSP and Brock were their big crossover stars. They get the big endorsements, Sportscenter overage, etc. Jones, Weidman, Showtime, Velazquez and Rhousey aren't names like Coto (sp), Bronner (sp), Mayweather, etc.

We're on NT which is probably due in part to MJ. Dude made 30 million a year at his peak minus endorsements. Kobe making that guap the next few seasons.

I think the over saturation isn't helping and they don't do a good enough job selling their stars (which may be difficult because of the violence). To me, JBJ should be a huge star with the way he's dominated, his creativity in the cage, etc.

Don't really mess with UFC but I want to check out this Jon Jones fight tonight. Anyone know approximately what time the main event will be starting?

lets go.

Late. The card starts at 10 p.m. I believe. So depending on the previous fights, anywhere between 11-12.

The fact someone as dominant as Jones isn't a massive star in 2015 should worry the hell out the UFC. The ship is sinking and this is a key indicator.

Dude is literally a young phenom. When he became champ, he was 24. He's African American, fake respectful, articulate, dominant, exciting in the cage. Showtime is like the only other fighter I can think that consistently wins, finishes and pulls out wicked, highlight reel moves.

Eh, define ship is sinking

They may not break through to the mainstream but it's not like their company is gonna go outta business or anything

1/2. Shouldn't have added late Cannonier play. UFC debut, and anything can happen when heavyweights flash leather.

Garbrandt, TKO. Largest, most confident play of the night.

You guys and even casual fight fans will enjoy Garbrandt's style. Reps TAM. KO power and fights with no chill.

Lol, the beef got everyone coming out of the woodwork.

Don't particularly like either guy... but I'm going with Jones R2 stoppage.
