The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- O’Malley v Vera on NOW

I thought it was close too, but you have to give close rounds to the champ.  Overall you got to beat the champ to take the belt, if this was non title fight. It could of easily been 3-2 DC depending on how you judge your fights.
DC's face after the fight let me know exactly what the scorecards should have read

DC knows he didn't win that

Jones simply cannot be beat by someone possessing skill alone, his physical stature and genetic gifts require someone to be physically and skillfully at his level. DC was just too short, GUS who was much taller and around the same figure as Jones faired much better for example

Agreed.

Cormier made me a fan tonight. I thought he did better then the judges thought, but Jones won that fight based off the takedowns. Jones pissed me off at the end, I hope Cormier gets a rematch and knocks him out.

i see a world where you can give 2 to DC, but nothing more.

that beating the champ to get the belt thing is damn true.

yep.

which is why I highly doubt he'd find the same success at HW. He'd need to cherry pick his fights. Hunt, Nelson, etc.

Though, sleeping on Hunt would be a bad, bad idea for Jones.

Other than a convincing R2 for DC, you could only conceivably give R3 to Cormier.

JBJ won the first (left to body, etc.), R4 with takedowns and clinch work. DC was gassed. R5 was Jones' as well. Cormier was persistent about landing an unnecessary takedown at that juncture of the fight.

you got to beat the champ convincingly. if gus (who i thought won) brought it and still couldnt get that decision no way can you make a case for cormier.

Lawlers''s too but he took strap from Hendricks.

This is how I saw it. Round 5 no one really do anything except Jones pretty much stall and  neutralized him.  Would of been awesome if DC knocked out Herb at the end.

DC should've been throwing his hands like life or death depended on it in the last round...but who am I to say guess he really wanted that takedown. His Olympian pride took over at that point

Na, Lawler looked hyped after his fight and knew he won

at JBJ during the FS1 interview. Dude kept saying that there's a lot of work that needs to be done and that he promises that his next fight will be his best. I can't tell if he's actually serious or if he's implying that he wasn't at his best and still beat DC. I'm sure he's serious about it, but he kept repeating himself to the point where it sounded weird.

Felder made a fan of me tonight... Will be looking forward to his next card

From my media experience with "Bones" in Baltimore for UFC 172, he really is plagued by the "Gus" fight. Refused to discuss the Swede. I really believe the places JBJ was taken that night in Toronto still gives him nightmares. Gustafsson damaged Jones' psyche in a way never seen before, and definitely has a mental and psychological advantage in a rematch.

I truly felt DC was out of shape and got gased after the 2nd round I wish he put up more of a fight but great win for Jon jones

To be P4P #1, you have to accept no blemishes. The quest is perfection. There were openings tonight in R2 and R3. DC was winning some of the dirty boxing exchanges in those rounds, particularly with right uppercuts. Cormier also landed a considerable amount of effective high kicks. This wasn't the banner performance we saw against Glover. JBJ needs to be better to defeat "Gus" in a potential rematch.
