The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- UFC 300 ON NOW

never knew what mma fighters' salaries were. it's a bit surprising to me that they're so low - esp. JBJ not even breaking $1M.
Yeah it's been the controversial thing for a while now, fighter pay

Jones does make over a million though in endorsements and PPV shares, he's definitely a millionaire, IMO

The other fighters don't make too much. Like, if you aren't a budding star and you been losing there's no point in staying in the sport. Now looking at some of those other dudes, if you're making 30K a fight that's not bad IMO. Especially if you're an up and comer

Plus fighters have so many expenses. You're going to struggle to break even if you're one of the lower card guys.

I thought Jens Pulver had retired a few years ago but dude is out there still fighting just to get a paycheck. Kinda sad to see.

Fighter expenses are crazy. I think it was in the Forbes article someone posted in here about Cerrone getting sponsored by Fram, but dude spent $20k on training not including paying Jackson, Winklejohn, and other coaches, for his fight with Jury.

Yeah I posted that, Cowboy built an entire gym facility though. Fram paid for the whole thing though

I know he said it was all for partners and what not but in another show he also said he finally finished building the gym on his ranch. There's no way he spent 20K just on partners

My dude DC only made $90k? That seems very low, although with about two fights a year I'm sure he isn't starving

I doubt just his partners cost $20k but I know that training camps cost a lot. That one fighter that was a stock broker or something said that his camps at Renzo Gracie's gym (gym fees, coaches, supplements, and training gear) costs him around $8k-$12k. I think in the end he said he ended up losing money with each fight.

Yeah I honestly don't think that's so bad but I would like to see their expenses. If he can do 3 fights a year, I think he'd be doing pretty well for himself

Only the superstars make the hundreds of thousands

Lombard got a hell of a deal only because he came from Bellator

Pretty sure Eddie Alvarez is getting paid good as well

wut

Henderson's original opponent, Eddie Alvarez, withdrew from the fight because he has the flu, according to sources at Authentic Sports Management, his management team. Alvarez's sickness resulted in weight loss and stopped him from training. He apparently tried to fight through it, but he felt worse on Monday and was forced to pull out of the bout.

So Melendez vs Alvarez still possible

I lowkey think Eddie Alvarez washed though, came to the UFC 5 years too late

Also, based off his resume Jones is already the GOAT, and I don't really like him

He's faced far stiffer competition than Silva and GSP and excelled.

His list of former champs alone is ridiculous

i know its another sport but its even more insane to me now that floyd is making 50 million+ a fight.
algieri even made 1.27+ million in his bout with pacquiao, JBJ didn't even crack half that. :wow:

I do agree that he probably has faced better competition then them but if u really dig into his opponents its not as clear cut as former champions. Alot of them haven't been nothing more than a one and done champion. they haven't been consistent enough to be considered elite but maybe he beat them so bad that they became shells of their former selves.

Shogun for example won the title then got destroyed by Jones, dude hasn't done anything since

Rampage just plain and simple sucks

Machida was a good test but he was at a size disadvantage, dropped to mw since

Belfort is a middleweight

Sonnen is a middleweight

Rashad was a good win, but we've seen Rashad be very inconsistent, losing lackluster fights

Gustaffson was a very tough fight, he very well was on his way to losing if not for the spinning backfist

Glover was a good win, but he just got 3-0'd by the same phil davis that got worked by Anthony Johnson

Jus saying its not that cut and dry. Alot of the guys he's beaten have either shown they aren't at the level we thought they were or aren't real Light hw's.

Now if he beats Gustaffson, especially decisively he'll make me a believer

Cowboy is a fn maniac!!!!!!

I would love if it was a 5 rd fight tho, their first one in wec was a barnburner

And what can you say about GSP and Silvas opponents?

Not gonna say that Jones would definitely beat Cain but he has a shot at doing it. Before the DC fight, people kept talking about how DC is the best wrestler in mma and how he gets the better of Cain during training/sparring. Plus Cain's biggest advantage at HW is his speed and stamina. By the 3rd round most HWs are gassed. Against Jones, Cain doesn't have that stamina and speed advantage anymore.

I can confidently say that Cain is both faster and possesses superior stamina than Jones.

Guys workrate is demon like. He's not of this earth.

Did TWood start training at Duke Roufus recently? I thought he was part of American Top Team. At least that was the reason he gave for turning down a fight with Lombard.

Interesting, I wonder too. Pettis has Askren and Woodley as wrestling partners

he'll need it against Khabib and RDA

Why do I have a feeling that RDA might try to strike with him though

That looks like Din Thomas on the far left who is an ATT lifer unless something has changed drastically.

Not unheard of for guys to do some training with guys from other camps though.
