Aldo's gassed in multiple fights, his weight cut is getting more and more difficult and his high octane style seems to drain him by the third round

Not sure how Aldo has the edge in cardio at all.. that's his biggest weak point if anything

McGregor tore his ACL against Holloway in the second round (I'd consider that adversity) and was still going hard all the way through the third and final round. So yes, he's gone past 2 rounds

McGregor has faced pressure before as well, when he fought in Ireland. I'm not sure if you watched that card because if you did there's no way you could say that wasn't pressure. That was probably the most energetic crowd ever witnessed in the UFC. The whole country was riding on his shoulders and he didn't wear himself out emotionally nor physically

Aldo won the fifth against Mendes, was going hard til the bell, just cuz he gassed against Hominick doesn't necessarily mean bad cardio. That was documented as a bad weight cut

Yeah, like I said in the other post, when you're talking about Jose Aldo, he's a generational fighter. You can't really compare many fighters to him. I agree with you in that regard, that Conor has never faced adversity to that level

I forget how Aldo looked in the later rounds against Lamas but in the Zombie fight, I definitely sensed his energy being pretty zapped

Coincidence that in the intro for the last event the narrator said mcgregor was a once in a generation talent. So now two fighters who have been described as once in a generation are fighting each other and from the same generation. Generation overload.

He's been training but maybe he's one of those guys that will continue training and teaching even after they've retired. If he's telling the truth that he stepped away cause he thinks MMA has a PED problem then UFC deciding to abandon their plan for out of competition drug testing isn't gonna help bring him back.

Aldo is going to kick the **** out of Mcgregors lead leg. It's really hard to check kicks out of that sideways TMA stance. It could look something like shogun vs machida. However, Mcgregor is so athletic and fluid with his diverse arsenal of strikes.

I honestly have it like 55/45 Gus, just because of his technique and footwork. His wrestling also steadily getting more well-rounded.. but Rumble could put anyone to sleep in any weight class and his boxing looks too sharp

I almost wish they weren't fighting. I like them both as fighters. I feel like Gus is more well rounded especially after his last two performances.

He doesn't need to prove anything else in the sport, don't want to see him hang around too long like a hendo or lidell and end up tarnishing his career with meaningless matches.

Agree with both of you on GSP. I felt the same way about Silva too but maybe he beats Diaz then retires. Nothing left for him to prove.

But 2015 is the year UFC is gonna try to prove that ppv and UFC aren't dead/dying so they'll probably throw a bunch of money at him and Lesnar to return. Thats why Punk was signed, Rampage and Cro Cop were brought back, and Fertitta is talking about getting a deal done with Cyborg.

Do the casuals still check in for Rampage and Cro Cop? I know even the off and on MMA heads don't give a rat's *** about those two. These guys really bring in money/ratings?

Cro Cop was one the main fighters that got me into MMA. Seeing him KO Silva in Pride was like

Ppl aren't checking for them but they have recognizable names. Add them to any card as a 3rd or 4th fight and suddenly the card seems a lot stronger. Take UFC 186. You have Dillashaw/Barao, Rory/Lombard, Rampage/Maldonado, and Bisping/Dollaway. Replace Rampage with Cavalcante. Its still a strong card but for some reason it doesn't feel as strong as before. Plus there's a better chance someone buys a card if they think they're gonna see 4 good fights with fighters they know, than 3 fights.
