Working a 9-5 sucks hOW DO PEOPLE DO THIS

I'm gonna be working 7AM to 5PM, Monday - Friday the next few months, then back to 12AM to 8AM. I get a raise for every switch so I guess that's cool at least. I used to work 12AM to 8AM and I actually kinda miss it, but my body definitely appreciates my 8AM to 4PM gig now.

True, it wears on you and affects your whole life. I've made a deal with myself to never get trapped in something like that again. I think because I was young I was scared of taking risks out there.

i think this is where i am...what was your "breaking point" @Mark_Antony ?

i recently got my Bachelors in Comp Sci but i messed up by not having an internship while in school. GPA was decent (3.2) but even at entry levels jobs want years of experience...catch 22.

in the mean time i work an early morning retail job(4am- 1pm)

miserable doesnt describe the situation by any means. It literally consumes my life and is completely draining. then i look at some of my co workers. Not to disrespect them but some have been doing this for years at the same exact level theyre at and i been here for only a few months and dont see my stay there being much longer.

Recent college grad and I'm stuck in this same position..Should have done some internships while in school
 
Not including temp jobs which are guaranteed to reach an end, I've had about 21 jobs since 05. I either get bored and quit, land a better job and quit, or in a few instances, stopped caring and got fired for being late or something. I'll rejoice the day I find my true niche.

I started a Big Cartel site selling vintage sports stuff.  It's small potatoes now but I'm doing it to supplement my part time job until I learn the ropes. 

The goal right now is to establish a reputation and get my brand known.  Then once I've flipped enough stuff...start renting space at flea markets...then after enough of that I hope to open my own store somewhere.  Long road ahead of me but I legitimately enjoy looking for clothes and shipping them out to people.
 
Currently work a 9-5 job and It definitely wears on you and is definitely repetitive and monotonous at times :\
 
I got an 8-5 job and school right after all year long (I go to all 4 semesters each year), Definitely takes a toll on you.:\
 
This 8-5 **** is so ******* boring and repetitive I literally felt myself going insane today.

A new job would be nice for the short term but I know i'll get sick off that **** too.

Don't know who ppl do this office thing for their whole lives.
 
Pretty much the way I've been looking at it. I've considered changing my major so many times me and my academic adviser thought it would just be better to go undecided and wait until im forced to declare.. (2 weeks

I've worked long hours at all types of jobs and I know for a fact doing the 9-5 jig Mon-Fri for years on end is just not something im cut out to do, regardless of field.

I'd rather be confined to my house for an entire year with no social interaction coming up with a bomb product that would set me up for life than let the years go by slowly watching my soul drain away.

Word. I need to find my calling too because realistically I don't see myself doing anything where I won't eventually burn out.

is it being in an office for all that time or just going through the motions of a 9-5 corporate type gig that sets you off? 

if its the first, why not find a job that allows you to work from home...i do it all the time...i haven't been to my office for over 2 weeks...

Where do you live? Comp Sci jobs can be had all over the DMV will no experience. My friend graduated last semester with a 2.6 GPA no internships and landed a job with General Dynamics 65k Top Secret w/ Poly he's set for life now. I always told people to get internships while in school, but with CS it really doesn't matter if you are willing to relocate.

content analyst for an information services company.  i read over bill text and Congressional documents for certain info and upload the information to a database used by universities, law schools, and government agencies (mostly within Congress, few others). 

a lot of my day is spent checking up on House and Senate committees and floor actions to see if they are going to pass anything...

can be very boring if nothing is going on...

its not something i really care to be doing and always checking for new opps but my job can be done anytime and from anywhere...

I can say being in IT, I like going to work everyday.

I am a Systems Engineer, and I can say that I enjoy my job. Mainly because I am involved in multiple different systems on different networks. Something is going on all the time, and they let me be in charge of assessing the environments we currently have and designing, recommending, and building any future systems we purchase.

With that being said...

I am 27, and I try not to think about having to do this for another 30 years :lol:
Eventually, I will either move to management or something, but I do not expect to be at this same level until I retire.

I have had talks with friends in the same industry and some that aren't about how many people are out here that work for themselves and/or work as needed and make as much, if not more than I do and seem to have more time to do things that they want to do.

Just have to find that niche or need that people want and to capitalize on it and be the man to take of that for them.

They get immersed in their hobbies outside of work to maintain their sanity.

I know an internal auditor who hang glides, for example.

I play soccer and go to the gym. I try to get out and have fun on weekends. Plus My wife and kids keep my head straight
 
I work 9-5. My background is in Human Resources and I work for a Music Licensing company. I can honestly say I enjoy waking up every morning to go to work. My boss and co-workers are great, the work environment is casual, pay is decent and the work is challenging but I learn a lot. My previous job was doing HR in Healthcare, and it was miserable for me. I think it is important to find an industry you like or passionate about.

You also need to find a few hobbies to do after work. I've been doing a lot of Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu Training for the past few years. I also recently bought a keyboard piano and started taking lessons.
