Am I the only one who feels restricted by political correctness. I feel political correctness is breeding a generAtion where everything is taboo, a world where we are not free to truly express ourselves. A world that attots to convince us that every thought we have that may offend someone is somehow wrong. A world where to have a free thought is to welcome scorn and hate.

I prefer the world of Archie Bunker than that of 7th heaven.

archie bunker was an ignorant racist. he had some "loveable" qualities, but still an ignorant racist. that's the old guard

what's this notion about being able to "express yourself?" you want to call people slur words and/or turn back the clock on social progress?

what exactly is constricting you from treating people with respect and equality? is that really a burden for you?

you prefer a world where people are free to be sexist, racist, homophobic, small-minded, unworldly and dumbed down?

not sure what you're saying here, but all points lead in that direction

Political correctness done right is calling me Black/African American as opposed to the n word.

Political correctness done wrong is censoring a legitimate point because it may offend someone else.

it's a good thing to figure this out - i commend you

"The world of Archie Bunker" brought with it other negatives beside this one speech issue you are focusing on, which is what create/destroy is trying to convey i believe...

...but as far as the specific issue you bring up - i agree that a world less politically correct is a better world; yet again, it gets complicated as addressed by c/d

you do what you can my friend
there are clever ways to circumvent the fraudulence, ya just can't be too clever - know what i mean?
if you've ever followed any of my posts here on NT, i'm not just flapping my gums

just like previous generations were programmed to be racist for instance - current generations are being trained in political correctness

i would enjoy a Method Man response in this thread but i realize he takes his time & thinks through his posts (which have become more concise & friendlier reads over the years) therefore, with a complicated issue like this, it may just be a waste of time for him

that's about as much as i can type right now off the head & remain interesting enough to read - walls of text on this are just a pain, right?

How about you give us a specific example of how you are feeling constrained? Its always too politically correct run when the comments or remarks don't pertain to your group.

******

While this is a forum, it still is a word in English that I can't use.

Someone on this board said 'one day race will be taboo'

Me and my boss were watching a show and he refused to say 'the black guy' when that was the most easily identifiable way to talk about that character.

A coworker said 'Negro League' a younger co worker said 'you can't say negro'

Called someone a Jew the other day, black dude said 'you can't say that'

These are most recent examples of how I felt political correctness has gotten in the way of life. Everytime I speak I shouldn't have to worry about offending a million people. I swear life isn't that serious.

Yes, I'm about as well versed in history as one can be. I just don't think it's that serious.

I once knew an older guy who used non PC words with almost every utterance. However, he always spoke from a place of peace and love, his vocab was stuck in 1955, but I didn't mind because his heart was in the right place.

The laws of today, the manners of back then. Realize that this is not how most people acted, but it was ok for this stuff to air on tv. Nowadays our best episodes are some kid getting bullied.

These were/are important topics, important attitudes, but we have this idea that to talk about it, to think differently about it is somehow inherently bad. Why? Are we so jaded as a society that we fail to see the basic difference in our lifestyles, we act as if people aren't different, as if everyone is the same, but that is not the fact. It is because we subconciously feel we are being slighted, but I feel we are being done a disservice by ignoring the differences between us, how can I ever voice my opinions and feelings about a subject when I am constantly being told I am wrong. Show me, don't censor me.

You never lived in the world of archie bunker....
And I'm a worse person for it... especially since it was a character on tv.

I also prefer the world of Heaven... but then again I never lived in that world....

I also prefer the world of peace and tranquility...but then again I never lived in that world...

I also prefer a world of...

no one is forcing you to be politically correct

I mean a world of freedom, freedom of thought, freedom of spirit. A world not bogged down by a false sense of right and wrong, a world where one is free to express his ideas. It is not scorn and contempt that breed love, it is peaceful dialogue that spawns understanding.

To take offense to an utterance coming from a place of love is to disregard the love and focus on the words.

We are men born in times, the time dictate what is right and was is wrong, these times say man ought walk on egg shells around his contemporaries, that is not freedom, that is not love, that is fear. Even the most biggited heart still bleeds for love, love is promoted by understanding, to berate me as 'Neolithic' imbicile because I prefer to say 'that's gay' ignores the times I was born in.

I fear future generations will have no concept of mental freedom, so brainwashed into believing we are all the same and stereotyping is inherently evil that they shall not be prepared for the world at large, they will not be equipped to handle even the most base form of dissenting opinions, retreating behind the walls of pseudo intellectuals who constantly place people in categories with ever increasingly complicated labels that excuse all behavior...

Honesty, we are not honest a society, constantly forcing ourselves to accept every person we meet, proclaiming 'we are not to judge' yet silently judging everyone around us. Making our jokes amongst friends because our cowardice doesn't allow us to look in the face of our foils. The need to be liked outweighs our need to be honest, I refuse to believe we all think alike when I constantly read of racists, sexist acts. We brush our demons under the rug, but they eat at the soul of our nation.

Without honesty there can be no love, without freedom, both socially and legally, a nation will not stand.

Meh, you'll get over it

That's the issue. No one cares. We have decided this is the 'right' way to be. I pray I never get over it. I will stand on my platform of freedom alone as the people if this nation fall into overly liberal decay.
No, you won't. You'll just make another thread and continue to be PC anyway.

Lol, idk if you follow my posts, but being PC never plays a factor. Site censorship, which I loosely choose to follow, but, unlike most of these times I spend time crafting my ideals, they are not easily broken...plenty can attest to that.

I'm black.
